「key15th」 : A History Of Emotion

Hello again, Doki Legion! Clannad Man here with an update & invitation.

Later this month from May 24th through 26th, anime fans will gather from all over to attend Anime North in Toronto, Canada’s premier anime convention and one of the largest in the Americas. I will be moderating a presentation on Key (the studio responsible for Kanon, Air, Clannad, Little Busters!, Angel Beats!, Rewrite and others), and will be joined by a panel of Kagikko including Doki VN’s very own jakeman95 and Aieon. (Kuzu also wanted to be on the panel, though he won’t be able to attend, so he’d sending a plush Botan in his place.) Several members of Doki’s staff will also be in attendance at the convention, and we’d love to talk with you!

Our page on the Anime North forums can be found HERE.

In case you happen to miss us, don’t worry! We will also be present at the Nominoichi event, where several rare Key collectables will be on display. It will be difficult to miss us.

In other news, submissions to the Key15th Anniversary Letter Project are officially closed. Submissions may still be processed, but there is no longer a guarantee they will appear in the published book. However, there will be a final opportunity to offer submissions personally after the 「key15th」 presentation at Anime North. We hope to see you there!

Introducing fansub.co - A new fansub comparison site

With the closure of ji-hi and subcompare, I am designing a new fansub comparison site. I have done the screenshots for Red Data Girl, but before I proceed, I want your feedback on the design of the site.

Ji-hi and subcompare used horizontal comparison (where you compare left and right). I have included a vertical mode (where you compare up and down). I want to know which one you prefer. I have also included a scroll assisting script called flickable(), which is on by default. You can choose to switch it off by changing the URL. I’d also like to know if flickable() should be kept, or removed.

Horizontal comparison and flickable() on [Default]

Vertical comparison and flickable() on

Vertical comparison and flickable() off

You may make comments here, or on the site itself!

Edit: Thank you for everyone’s comments. I will take them all into consideration and improve the site. Meanwhile, please continue leaving feedback!
Edit2: Added lightbox, grouped into sets of comparison shots. (Groups of 3 for RDG)

Key15th Christmas Update and Call for Submissions

With today being Christmas and the end of the year inbound, I felt it would be appropriate to write a new post for an update on the Key 15th Anniversary Letter Project. For those who are unfamiliar with the project, the Key 15th project is an effort to reach out to Key with a collection of fan messages, letters, and illustrations to showcase international fan support of their works.

Ever since submissions opened this past August, a number of dedicated Key fans from different parts of the world have sent in short messages and letters to express their appreciation to Key. These submissions represent fans from a variety of locations (Brazil and Vietnam to name a few) that are not within the official reach of Key and Visual Art’s, and reinforces our goal to display the cultural diversity among fans who share a common gratefulness for Key’s works and their effects on our lives. I am also pleased to announce that a number of translation groups and individuals have given their support to the project by helping spread awareness of the project, and that the number of new submissions have risen as a result of their efforts.

Nevertheless, to better represent the influence and reach of Key’s works and the proportion of their fans, the Key 15th Project remains in need of more submissions. With the holiday season ongoing, I would like to encourage fans of Key’s titles to participate in the project. If you would like to participate, you can submit a Key-themed artwork, image, letter, or even just a simple, short message expressing your gratitude; project volunteers will do their best to translate these contributions. You can also help by simply spreading the word about the project to your friends or even just republishing this post. Participation in any form will be much appreciated.

To end my post, I would like to conclude with a short quote from Tomoyo After that I think reflects the project’s aims quite well—

Before I realised it, a lot of people had gathered in the kitchen to make sweets, and they were all smiling.

May everyone have a happy Christmas.

For more information, please visit the project’s website and its about page. Submissions can be made here.

Team Fluffy Merges into Doki VN and Recruiting VN Translators!

It’s been a while since we released the Tomoyo After patch, and after a short break, things are moving again. Today, I have a few announcements to make.

  1. Team Fluffy (Little Busters! VN Team) will merge into the Doki VN Department. This will allow coders on both teams to collaborate to improve the hacking tools for the key visual novels. In addition, the merge should mean that projects will get finished quicker than originally planned. Clannad_Man has more details below.
  2. Delwack will succeed Clannad_Man as the head of the VN Department. I am sure Del will do a great job, so please give him your support!
  3. In order to ensure that future VN projects run smoothly, it will be necessary to recruit another dedicated VN translator.

Greetings, Doki Legion!

Thought you were rid of me? Ready to read another ‘brief’ wall of text? No? Alrighty then. I’ll make this brief. I have temporarily returned with the sole purpose of providing you with an important update.

Team Fluffy has agreed to merge into the Doki Visual Novel Department effective immediately. As part of the merger, the Little Busters! VN Translation Project has also been transferred to the Doki VN Dept. Any future updates & patches involving ‘Little Busters!’ & Little Busters! Ex’ will be released through Doki.

The rationale behind the merger is as follows: both groups have capabilities and resources which could be utilized by the other to enhance the quality and efficiency of their works. Members from both teams will collaborate to work on enhancing tools for use in the Memorial/CE/Ex translation patches of Tomoyo After, Little Busters!, and potentially Clannad as well. For the most part, those working on Tomoyo After (Orig. or ME) will continue doing so, as will those who have been working on Little Busters! Ex. As each VN being worked on is at a different stage of progress, there will be some crossover between group members who otherwise wouldn’t have much to do, including image editors, translation checkers, etc. As work on TA and LB! comes to a close, work will be redirected to Clannad. In this way, those involved feel the translation patches for Tomoyo After ME and Little Busters! Ex will be checked & released quicker than otherwise possible, in turn allowing Clannad’s final translation patch to be prepared quicker than otherwise possible. What happens beyond then… well, it’s too far in the future for anyone to tell, especially me.

One more time, on behalf of Doki Fansubs and the most passionate VN team in existence, I thank you for your continued support. Look forward to all the great things yet to come from the VN team, and be sure to give the new VN Division Head, Delwack, a proper show of support.

Peace!

– The Clannad Man

Happy 3rd Birthday, Doki!

Three years have passed since I started Doki Fansubs. Besides releasing anime, we have expanded to doing VNs, streaming music, running our own public tracker and maintaining FansubDB.

Our AniDB stats are currently: 122 anime entries, 1370 episodes, 4816 files (20 undumped), 1745 GB. That’s pretty amazing.

Due to time constraints, I haven’t planned anything special for this birthday, apart from this post.

Some of you have probably noticed, but I have not been as active in fansubbing as I was in the past. This is due to studying for my MSc in Biochemical Engineering. I have passed this, and I am due to start a PhD in Biotechnology in January 2013. I am not sure how active I will be after that, but Doki will continue running with or without me, so don’t worry! Meanwhile, I intend to release everything stalled at me before 2013. That includes the After Story and Air Hi10P releases.

Thanks for all your donations which keep madoka.hologfx.com running!

A big shoutout to the active staff who keep Doki running, and thanks to all you guys out there for your support. Let’s make our fourth year as successful as the past three!

Key 15th Anniversary Letter Project Now Accepting Submissions

The Key 15th Anniversary Letter Project is now accepting messages, letters, and images (fan art, cosplay, etc.) at its Submission Wiki. For those of you who aren’t familiar with it, the Letter Project is a fan-coordinated effort started by several groups to reach out to Key with an anthology of letters, art, and videos on its upcoming 15th anniversary as a way to show them their overseas fans’ appreciation.

The project will continue to accept submissions until January at its earliest. After which the fan submissions will be compiled into a yearbook and DVD, which will be printed and sent to Key and related publishers. As a huge fan of Key myself, I personally ask you to please take a moment to voice your appreciation to Key and its staff members, and help showing them the extent of its fan base outside of Japan.
