Recruiting Translators

We’re recruiting a few Japanese > English translators for new shows next season.

Previous fansubbing experience is not necessary. You should have a reasonable level of English, and have good experience with Japanese. To elaborate, you should have been speaking Japanese for a number of years, and for those of you who may have specific qualifications, the average fansub translator is a JLPT3, though this qualification can’t account for cultural knowledge, etc.

Recruiting Image Editors for VN

We’re recruiting image editors for our Visual Novels Department.

The basic job description is that you should be able, via use of the image editing software of your choice, replace the Kanji text in an image with English text. It’s not a simple erase and replace job but would require a reasonable level of skill with your image editing software, and attention to detail.

You would not be affiailiated with the main branch of Doki in any way, and would be working exclusively with the visual novels department.

I recommend contacting via email, as Tatsuya is not often available in the -recruits room.

Recruiting a Translator

I am looking for a Japanese -> English translator, for next season’s TV shows.

Previous experience in fansubbing not necessary, but experience in Japanese is necessary.

Recruiting Editors v2 (Closed)

Recruiting editors. You must be available from 6pm onwards (utc/UK time) or in the afternoon -> evening (US time) on Thursdays.

Your level of English should be high (native speaker level). Your job is to turn an Engrishy/clunky/awkward script into fluent/natural English. This means altering the flow of lines so they read better and flow off of the tongue, without changing the overall meaning. Not all translators’ first languages are English and therefore many scripts require extensive editing before they can become release ready.

Send me an email at holo@doki.co and join #doki-recruits@irc.rizon.net. In your email, state your timezone and any info you feel supports your application. Previous experience in fansubbing is not a requirement.

After sending me an email, join #doki-recruits@irc.rizon.net. Ask for the test. Do the test. Email me with the complete test.

I am looking for dedicated people, those who will stick around for at least a season. Don’t bother if you are going to lose interest in 2 weeks.

Recruiting Timers v2 (Closed)

Despite recruiting many timers half a year a year ago, some have disappeared and some are generally inactive. Only a couple remain active, and as a result, I am looking to train another set of timers.

So if you are thinking of getting into fansubbing, but don’t know how to do anything, here is a good opportunity.

If you would like to learn how to time, you should satisfy the following conditions.

A lot of patience. Timing can be very monotonous and tedious.
Speak coherent English. If I can’t communicate with you properly, I can’t teach you.
Ability to take initiative. If you have nothing to do, ask me for something to work on.Don’t just sit there waiting.
Have a lot of free time. If you are only available for two days a week, this gig is not suitable for you. While I don’t expect you to be online 24/7, I would expect you to be around for a couple of hours at least 4 or 5 days a week.
Able to idle on IRC when you are online. If you can idle 24/7, then all the better.

No experience required. You will be taught everything. I am looking for people all over the world, but in the utc+7 to utc+12 timezones (Far East and Australia) in particular, as I lack timers from that side of the world.

Looking for Translators

So, translators are once again disappearing on me. Back-up translators are stepping up to fill in, so none of the airing shows are significantly affected. But I would like to recruit some more translators just in case. If you would like to join us and translate a show for us next season, you can also apply. I am looking to pick up 5-8 shows, depending on availability of translators.

Typical requirements are: able to spare a few hours a week to translate, ability to translate by ear (closed captions are provided on certain shows). If you don’t think your Japanese is good enough, don’t be afraid to apply. You never know, you might be right for the job.

Doki’s Visual Novel Department! Recruiting TLs for Tomoyo After

One of my ambitions is to expand from fansubbing Anime, and make a move into the world of Visual Novels. And after recent developments, this is no longer a dream, but a possibility.

The first project we will be working on is Tomoyo After. Doki has many translators, but all are involved in translating anime.

I am seeking one (or more) translator(s) dedicated specifically to translating Tomoyo After. You will be provided with the Japanese text to translate from. You can email me if you are interested, or go on our IRC channel and find me or Cruxis (Supreme Receptionist of the Doki VN Department).

Cruxis edit: I am also looking for a person who completed this Visual Novel and can provide me some necessary resources. Find me in #doki.

Later I will be recruiting a number of “testers” to play the patched game, for debugging purposes.

There will be no “public” release until the entire project is complete.

Edit: A small update about how we will deal with the release, which shouldn’t be too far away. The only thing we will release officially, ie, via this blog, is the patch itself. We will NOT be releasing the actual game (iso or otherwise), for obvious reasons. You will have to find a copy of the game yourself. If you idle on #doki, I am sure someone will be able to help you.

I am looking for translators to help with checking the translations of A Channel and 30-sai specifically. Your grasp of Japanese should be decent.

Previous experience in fansubbing not required.
