April Update + Recruiting Translators!

April Update

Recruiting a Japanese Translator
Firstly, I am looking for a translator to replace someone who has disappeared. Due to CR picking up so many damn shows again next season, I have had to change my plans considerably, and I have some potential shows that I would like to do, but I need a translator. Previous experience in fansubbing not required, but proficiency at Japanese required. If you’re interested, please email me at holo@doki.co.

General
As you might have noticed, I have enlarged the blog layout to fit two more sidebars in, as I want space to fit in status updates. As such, I will need some new banners; the current Zombie banner is temporary. I will start up another banner competition in the coming days. There are some old banners that I really love, and if the makers rendered them in the new resolution (1240×250), they will accepted straightaway. More on that later.

Spring 2011 Shows

  • Nichijou
  • Seikon no Qwaser II

I will only confirm two spring shows at the moment. However, this is only a fraction of the shows that we will release. The other shows are nearly finalized, but I want to confirm schedules before announcing.

Blu-Ray

  • Seto no Hanayome – Will be finished by the end of next week.
  • Seikon no Qwaser – Will do my best to complete this before the release of the first episode of Season 2. The picture dramas have actually all been translated now, and I will release a batch of this in the coming week.
  • Haruhi – Confident that it will be complete before the release of Clannad ~After Story~
  • MTLR – Vol 5 will be out in about 2 weeks.
  • SYD – Nana has not had as much progress as he would have liked in TLing this, so this might be delayed past April. But hey, at least KxS, Neko and BGHK got done.
  • Shows not mentioned are not priority at this point, but will be done, so don’t worry.

Airing Shows

  • Zombie – Double release of 11 and 12 this week. I expect to release 11 on Monday night and 12 on either Tuesday or Wednesday.

Jecht’s Shows

  • Asobi – The release of the last volume and the batches is imminent.
  • Saki – Steady progress.

Zdm’s Shows

  • Haruhi-chan – 7-12 will be out soon.

Enjoy our upcoming releases!

Recruiting Cappers

As Holo hinted at a few days ago, we plan on releasing shows quickly next season. However, one major time drain is acquiring raws, which can take days to show up on Japanese P2P networks. To alleviate this, we’re looking for a few cappers that can provide us with fast, quality transport stream (.ts) raws. The job itself is fairly easy (it can even be automated!), and has only one major requirement: you (or just your capping equipment) must be located in Japan.

We’re looking for these channels in particular:

Tokyo Region: TV Tokyo, Fuji TV, TBS

Osaka Region: TV Osaka, MBS

Aichi Region: TV Aichi

Prefecture-specific: Tokyo MX (Tokyo Prefecture), Chiba TV (Chiba Prefecture), TV Saitama/Teletama (Saitama Prefecture), Sun TV (Hyogo Prefecture)

Satellite: AT-X HD

Feel free to email us at holo@doki.co if you receive any of these channels and are willing to cap for us.

Chances are, you are already capping shows on these channels and only have to set up a script to push the .ts onto our server.

Recruiting Editors v1 (Closed)

Following the successful mass recruitment of timers last month, I am now doing the same for Editors/QCers.

QCs: Your job is to check the script for spelling, grammar, punctuation and syntax. Your attention to detail should be second to none. I don’t expect perfection, but I do expect near perfection.

Editors: Your job is to take a translated script and change the awkward/literal English into smooth, natural English. The level of your English should be akin to that of a native speaker, preferrably better than my English. (English is my second language.)
Your attention to detail should also be very good.

I will give guidance, but ultimately, editing isn’t something that I can teach, unlike timing, because it is a subjective thing.

I have not decided how many people I will recruit for this. Recruitment will be open for 24-48 hours, depending on how spammed my inbox is, lol.
As an estimate, I left the timer recruitment up for 12 hours and about 20 people applied, lol.

Email me at holo@doki.co.

Applications received: Too many.

Not taking any more applications for the time being.

Recruiting Timers v1 (Closed)

Following the success of new timers Cyler and Crust, I am looking to train 2 more timers, as their training is now complete.

I am looking for people in the Canadian/American timezones specifically. We have timers stretching from the UK all the way to South East Asia, but I require timers from Canadian/American time zones so that I have timers available 24/7.

Thanks to everyone who emailed me. I will be going through my emails and reply to everyone.

Applications now CLOSED! Look out for the next recruitment post.

Recruiting TLs for Autumn 2010

Next season I plan on doing 2 projects. Pic might or might not be related. My TLs are all unavailable (afaik) next season, so I am recruiting now.
At the moment I am not picky about Japanese or Chinese translators. Japanese translators will get preference, but I won’t be picky.

All applicants must satisfy the following.
1. Your English must be fluent enough so we can talk, and fluent enough so that the editor understands your script.
2. You translate for the entire season. Please don’t get kidnapped by fairies 3 weeks in.
3. You don’t take forever to translate. I aim to release TV shows within 48 (72 max) hours of them airing in Japan, so keep that in mind.
4. You are able to use IRC. You should try your best to idle as much as possible, but if not, at least be on for the duration that your script is being worked on.

Previous fansub experience preferred but not an requirement. Doki TLs get a lot of freedom – I can let you pick your own shows (within reason). A list of shows airing next season can be found at chartfag or at fansubwiki.

If interested, please email me at holo@doki.co or join #doki-recruits@irc.rizon.net.

Emergency Recruitment for a TL

Since our TL for Seitokai has been kidnapped by fairies and sacrificed to the dark gods, the project is kinda in limbo atm.

I really need a TL to apply to take over the translating of this project.

If you think your Japanese is capable (bearing in mind the show has a lot of ecchi in-jokes) then please please email me @ holo@doki.co or join #doki-recruits.

Let’s hope Kusion is immune from the fairies!

nt edit: We’re also in need of reliable (as in constant, dependable, that does not get kidnapped by fairies and sacrificed to the gods) Translation Checkers (TLCers), mainly for editing aid and general TLC.

[DONE] Recruiting

I’ll keep this short. We are recruiting Editors and Timers. Visit #doki-recruits

We have a tendency to rely on a few staff members and when they are gone, the fansubbing process gets helplessly stalled. Today, I finished tling an episode and waited 12 hours before a timer is available. It is still subjected to more delays.

Edit by Jecht: positions filled.

Doki is Recruiting!

Once again I am looking for more staff.

I am looking for a typesetter, who will be in charge of all typesetting for shows which have a lot of signs (Seitokai). Experience is necessary – please show me examples of things you have worked on before.

I am also looking for a translator who is capable of reading Kanji. You will be responsible for translating/helping with signs this season. You can also translate a show in future seasons 🙂

Email me if you are interested in either position (holo@doki.co).
