The story is set in the year 2013, in the fictional city of NO.6, a sort of futuristic utopia. The protagonist, Shion, has the privilege of living in the city’s most luxurious area called ‘Chronos’ due to the fact that he was deemed highly intelligent by a series of medical tests performed on him when he was two years old. He led a comfortable and promising life up until his twelfth birthday when he met and sheltered an escapee called Nezumi one rainy day. The Public Security Bureau found out and exiled Shion from Chronos to the slums of the ‘Lost Town’. Now, four years later, he is suspected of murder and sentenced to the correctional institute where he once again meets, and is rescued by, Nezumi. Shion finds out about NO.6’s true nature, certain events that took place, and their connection with Nezumi…
