Hello everyone! Approximately 17 months ago, I decided to expand into the area of Visual Novels, and take on Tomoyo After as our first project. Finally, we are able to present the completed patch to you. Thank you all for your patience! Many people have been involved in this project, and I would like to thank Clannad_Man for his leadership. If it wasn’t for him, who knows when we would have finished this project. I’d also like to thank Delwack for his role in leading after Clannad_Man became occupied with RL. Special mention to the translators Kuzu, NeWbY and egshady for persevering with this project. A full list of credits will be included with the readme.
Delwack has a few words to say on this release.
Greetings everyone! I’m Delwack, a relatively new addition to the Doki VN team. Before I get into some of the other details, just a few quick note on the patch itself. This patch executable is rather simplistic and it uses the default director TA is normally installed to. If you chose to install TA to a directory other than the default one, be sure to point the patcher to the right directory! Note that if you’ve played the game before in Japanese, the save games are not compatable with the English version. Please delete any files found in C:\KEY\智代アフター\SAVEDATA (default directory again) before installing this patch.
With that out of the way…
I joined when Doki absorbed the Clannad project, and offered to lend a hand with Tomoyo After. As with many projects, Doki’s first attempt at translation a visual novel with Tomoyo After has not gone as smoothly as we would have liked. A lot of work went not only into the text, but into getting all the things around it working properly. While we have worked hard to solve many issues, there are still outstanding issues both major and minor that we are looking to resolve. I’m here today to give you a flavor for some of the known issues and challenges that we are still looking to overcome.Major issues:
Font selection: The default font used is MS Gothic (MS ゴシック) with bolding and shadows enabled. The font options are not currently functioning properly. Attempts to change the font will result in using the lowest quality, no-shadow, no bolding version of the selected font. It is not possible to revert back to the default font as set up without reinstalling the patch.Line Overruns: Luckily the game doesn’t crash when a large chunk of text runs over the 3-lines allocated to it. It does, however, cause some odd corruption of the name tag box. This is likely an issue inside of rlbable, as this behavior doesn’t appear on other VNs that share the same resources.
Known Crash Issues: From the start-up screen, attempting to load a save on the first line of July 14th will crash the game.
Minor issues:
D&T line-overruns: The auto-line breaking used throughout the game doesn’t work properly for D&T. We are working on either fixing it or adding in manual line breaks.D&T skill cut-ins: Minor display issues with 2 cut-in skills (uses an incorrect older style for the cutins.)
D&T item name inconsistency: There are a handful of item and skill images that are inconsistent with the text. Some of this is intentional, due to space limits, but we are still working on fixing all the inconsistencies.
D&T item puns: The bane of translation effort, there are a frightful number of puns with the item names and descriptions. Figuring them all out of half the battle, trying to properly convey them the other half.
Some system message titles still in JP: We’ve tried to catch everything, but there are some occasional system messages (like if you try to close the program through alt+f4) that are still in JP. These should not adversely affect your play experience.
Despite these issues, I hope you enjoy this patch, and look forward to the day when we release a final version.
And a few words from Clannad_Man.
Greetings Doki Legion, from your brother in arms, the Clannad Man.
What a journey this has been, eh? I don’t know about you, but from my perspective, it’s been a wild ride. With rapids. Several class five rapids. But, we got through them, together.
The release of this translation patch is something I think we’ve all been looking forward to for a long time. Sure, the patch isn’t entirely polished (yet), but to have even arrived at this stage is something I’ve had a difficult time wrapping my head around. We did it! And that, ladies and gents, means I have some heartfelt confessions to make.I cannot begin to properly express my gratitude to the fine men and women who have worked on this project as members of the Doki Visual Novel Department. It has been a true joy to work with each and every one of you. I know better than anyone the extremes it took to co-ordinate everyone’s busy schedules together, but you stuck with it, even though I’m certain my many demands placed a burden on your shoulders. For your persistence, passion, and for the great service you have provided to the Key Kazoku as well as to Clannad Fans worldwide:
Thank you!
To the many people who worked on this project from its Baka-Tsuki days, kudos for setting the foundation and getting the ball rolling. Though I’m sure progress was not as forthcoming as you would have liked, my hope for you is that when you play through the patch, you’ll be able to relive your experiences volunteering at B-T, and gain a sense of pride from knowing your contributions will live on. For your ambition and vision:
Thank you!
I must give a mention to Holo and Dys for initially reaching out to me to assist with the project. Even though I resisted, you kept at it, and as a result I have been able to experience something I will cherish for the rest of my days. You have been respectful of my conditions and wishes, and have always been open to suggestions. For your service as diplomats:
Thank you!
Finally, to everyone who has supported the project since its inception… As the VN Team can attest, you’ve made the entire experience worthwhile. Sometimes all the motivation it took for the team to get going was a quick look at the main TA post to see all of the appreciation you showered upon them. Though not directly involved, the fans of the Tomoyo After Translation Project have played as large a role in the scheme of things as anyone. Even those from traditionally hostile groups have been cordial, and I respect them for that. It is due to the Doki Legion and Clannad Fans from around the world that this project was resurrected from its neglected state and raised to the position it’s at today. For everyone who has ever shown any interest in the project, the VN Team, or works from Key/Visual Art’s:
THANK YOU!!!
It is my sincere desire that everyone enjoys the patch and supports the great people over at Key/Visual Art’s by purchasing a version of the game. While of course I cannot force you to do so, providing some sort of financial support to Key will allow them to continue making great games for everyone to enjoy. I won’t preach, since many of you likely don’t want to hear it; just consider respecting their efforts in some way.
To conclude, here are the plans for the VN Division in the immediate future: work to polish the TA patch will continue, succeeded by efforts to translate the new portions found in the Memorial edition of the game, and finally followed by the final translations / edits for CLANNAD. Though my own role in this process is drawing to a close, I ask that you continue to show the amazing support to the people at Doki as you have done for me and the rest of the Visual Novel Division. Exciting times lie ahead, in each of our unique paths. Forging onward is where the fun really beings!Be careful out there, folks. I’ll catch ya’ on the flip side.
Happy trails!

Finished! Well my first playthrough that is, knowing Key the game is probably packed with stuff i haven’t found yet, like D&T.
Man i don’t know how they do it, but they get me every damn time, my emotions are all over the place. I don’t even know why i keep playing these things! That said they sure succeeded, once again a great story. I’m not sure what to think of the ending though, manly tears were certainly shed, but i’m not sure whether i actually liked it or not. That’s all i’ll say here before i start spouting spoilers.
Patch wise i’d say it’s a job well done, haven’t encountered any unkown issues and it’s very solid considering this isn’t the final patch, keep up the great work for the final patch, ME and of course Clannad. Thanks again!
Look forward to the ME Edition patch then! I hear the ending for the ME Edition is better than the one in the Standard Edition. ; )
That is good to hear, cheers for the info 😉
I can’t install RLVM on my Macbook… does anyone know how to install it? :S
I’m getting a message saying
“Fatal RLVM Error
Could not open file “”.”
Did you grab the right patch? The one for Windows, and the one for Mac/Linux are seperate.
With issues with RLVM you should talk to the guy who made it. RLVM webside is here http://www.elliotglaysher.org/rlvm/index.html or open an issue on his github repo here https://github.com/eglaysher/rlvm hope that helps. ^^
Can’t wait to get my new computer ordered and set up so I can play this. Hopefully the ME patch will be out by then, and/or this one will have the bugs fixed.
Again, great work Doki. You guys must be made of concentrated doses of pure awesome.
I dont deserve to download this.
people were waiting patiently and worrying and demanding and asking and bugging you for this release while i was doing other crap , and completely fogot about you.
That is why i forbid myself as a punishment to enjoy this game untill 2nd update comes .(lawl hidden motive)
Either way i really appreciate your hard work and i hope that your future plans go better , because the way down is blocked by the demanders and beggers of the community.
Either way , just keep doing great work and note that you are doing a service to humanity.
Also – whats up with all the wierd words and sentences on your messages on the community…..-maybe its because of extensive/intensive contact with people on internet , or just because you tried to make your messages more cheerful..
Either way(yes another one) im not the one to judge you and im not a party wrecker so do whatever about that.
Lastly:
A huge huge huge huge thank you (again) , and imagine yourself i have the willpower and mental ability to copy/paste these words 10000 more times , but that would ruin the whole point.
so again , THX , and i hope you find your own nagisa/tomoyo someday … ( i liked kyuo/kyou more … oh well…)
Me too. Kyou FTW! ; ) Well, I still like Tomoyo and Nagisa, but Kyou is my fave! ; )
Ive only played this for like 5 mins now but so far all is good :). This is the first game like this that i have ever played but im sure i will be playing more in the future lol.
I cant imagine the amount of effort that went into translating this game so big thanks to everyone involved 🙂
Just wildly thrwoing out some very few suggestions for other Visual Novels you should try that have been 100% translated:
Fate/stay night
Tsukihime
Kanon (also made by KEY)
Ever17
Utawarerumono
For starters. There are a ton of others, but try those first and see if you like ’em! 🙂
*throwing
Lol, “thrwoing”, what is that? (^_^’)
hmm did u read the manga adaptation of tsukihime or wathc the anime? which would u say is better? just a “the VN!”, “the anime” or “the manga” would be enough 😀
The VN. No competition at all there. 😉
Beat it… I’m so depressed right now… =.= *groans*
For some reason after installing it correctly and playing it once then turning it off it wont start again i turn on realLive then the screen turns black and stays that way can anybody help?
Hmm… I think nat2290 has this issue too (see http://doki.co/2012/09/22/tomoyo-after-english-patch-v1/comment-page-3/#comments)
Could you report this at http://forums.fansub.co/index.php?topic=822.0 ? We’ll have to look into it.

1) It’s one of the known issues in the readme
2) To fix it just restart the engine and it should work fine
Hey guys, if anyone is looking for a guide, I posted a 100% lines read guide here http://pastebin.com/JM1M4fjY. I tried getting it on gamefaqs, but they didn’t like my formatting and took forever to even let me know it was rejected. Try to get the word around so people can find my guide 😀
Thanks for the guide man!
hey,Gamer, you said in your walkthrough that we must choose only one choice that leads to a Bad End for each playthrough so we can get to see each unique dialogue.Does that apply to those choices that lead to parts 1,2 and 3 of Bad End #1 described in your guide? If I get the part 1 of Bad End 1,I have to get parts 2 and 3 in the same playthrough or I have to them separately?
Each “entrance” for each bad end has unique dialogue, typically only a line or two different though, before the bad end actually starts. If you trigger more than one entrance to the SAME bad end, I’m not sure which dialogue it will display and that’s why I have suggested against it if your goal is to read 100% lines. For the parts you are referring to, I have a note about it under Choice #10. If you trigger all 3 parts, you trigger ONE entrance into the bad end. So if you do not pick all 3 parts, then no bad end will occur.
If this was unclear, let me know how I could clarify it in my guide.
Thanks!
Your effort is admirable, but I can see why GameFAQ’s didn’t like your formatting, it does not give an easy overview of things. Most VN guides provide the list of choices in a flowchart kind of way, so one can easily see that: “this choice leads to this choice, and then if you choose this choice then that leads to this, but if you choose this, it leads to this” etc. Yours on the other hand just give stuff like “Each choice alters the dialogue that occurs during a scene much later in the game. How to get the related scene is indicated later in the guide.” which is not very helpful, and there is no note about where later in the guide this info is provided. Your focus is too much on “what each choice does and influences” as opposed to what should be the main focus, namely what each choice leads too. I’m not trying to sound ungrateful, but it’s too confusing at this point, and I’m not sure I would want to use it. Here’s a good example of what a good VN choices guide should be like imo (you don’t need any of the color or the image file stuff and all that of course, just lines/arrows and text with explanations): http://www.scribd.com/doc/27635630/Fate-stay-night
Using this method you would still be perfectly capable of including info such as *CG unlock*, *Part 1 of Bad End #1*, “When ‘Don’t search.’ is chosen, you cannot choose or have chosen any other choices that lead to Bad End #1 or choice #30 before choice #30 occurs, or else you will miss eventual dialogue.” next to each choice if you so wish.
I completely agree with you that if I were to approach the guide in that kind of manner my guide would be better off. In fact, I prefer those kinds of guides because they are easy to read and understand. (Not to mention that the Fate/Stay Night guide is my favorite guide for any VN ever simply because it is so easy to read and understand. Not to mention F/SN is my favorite VN ever. Tohsaka Rin <3) I agree my guide would be better off if done with such formatting, and the flow of that guide is kinda what I went for with my guide. It didn't pan out as well considering it was done with straight text, but that's all the more time I had to put into it. I'm a senior in college with a senior research project that's supposed to eat like 80 hours a week off my schedule, and by the time that's done most people will probably have finished this game. So unfortunately, I highly doubt the guide will ever experience such a drastic, though nice, formatting update.
I know what you mean, I’m a University student myself. 😉 Damn studies is ruining all my time… (¬_¬) Also, agreed, FSN is my favourite VN ever as well! ^^ And as I’m sure you can tell from my avatar, Rin is my favourite girl. ^^ And I agree, the flowchart guide for FSN is really good and easy to understand.
I indeed could tell your avatar was Rin. There’s a reason I decided to mention something not related to the discussion. xD And it’s a cute picture too, I like it =3
I got it from Irie. ^^ He and some of the others who hang out in the cbox a lot have large albums of anime, manga, and VN related pictures, which they constantly share by posting various links. have a look sometime, or if there’s any particular picture, just ask, I’m sure they’ll find it for you. ; )
There should be a “have” in between that “a” and “lot”. I made a typo. ^^’
Beat the game yesterday, and I gotta say that it was worth the wait. Only question I have is when the screen is white and text appears with typing sounds, is it supposed to be in Japanese still or did I somehow mess up installing the patch?
The patch is meant to convert all the typing into English. Did the main game text become English? Are you using Linux/Mac by any chance? (see the post below yours)
So installing on Linux through cmdinstall, when one ran the game it stayed in Japanese.
Copied all the “G00” files manually from the patch to the game folder and now it’s in English.
Anybody else sampled this problem?
So I just finished it and damn that story was touching. Especially Forest Bear/tomo scene….the tears wouldnt stop ;_;
I can’t open the patch file after it finished installing. Instead, Norton Antivirus detects a virus and deletes the file. Anyone else got this problem?
Your Norton Antiviruse probably thinks the .exe file is a viruse and moves it to quarantine, before deleting it later. This is a common problem with many VN game exe’s. I had the same problem with Norman with my copies of “ef – the first tale”, and “Shuffle!”. I don’t know how it is with Norton (you should really switch that one out, as it is too nazi, and thinks everything is bad, and either blocks things out or tries to delete them. I gave up using it on the first day I had it), but with Norman, after exiting the folder where the files were before they were quarantined (you need to do this so they aren’t just detected and quarantined again), I went into it’s Control Panel (Norman Security Suite), and went to the “Quarantine” section where the quarantined files were, moved these files back to their folders using the program, went into the “Exclusion List”, and told Norman to exclude these files, so they wouldn’t be quarantined again in the future. Now if Norton directly deletes the files instead of quarantinig them first, then you have an even bigger problem…If you can get it to exclude the game folders and stop searching them, that would work, and then you could reinstall the patch. If that’s not possible…get yourself a new Antivirus program…Norton sucks. ┐( ̄_ ̄)┌
Thanks for that. I actually fixed the problem yesterday by simply turning off Norton when I opened the file so nothing happened to it. Before that, yes the file did get quarantined the first time but then it got moved to higher risk so it got deleted afterwards. But yeah, its all fixed now and I played a bit yesterday so thanks for the help at least!
Glad it worked out! 😉
Thanks a lot for your hard work guys. I will be playing this very soon. But I really wanted to thank you guys for this one.
Haha just started it, and I have to say Tomoyo is rediculously cute; Far more than I expected. Although I am glad since she was one of my favorite Clannad girls.
You actually start to feel bad for her in the begining in a comical way, because of the interuptions. XP
I know I am not that far in but good work. Thanks for doing this!
i face the same problem as well and after i close everything in norton, i can open the patch. i have other question, how do you play this game?
See my response to candynova above on the topic of Norton. As for how to play the game, do you mean how to run it, or how to actually play it once you’re in-game? If it’s the first, this has already been answered several places earlier in this thread, so just read through to find them, I’ve typed that stuff so many times now I don’t feel like doing it again…If it’s the second, click on the link to the readme in the main post above. The controls are listed there.
CONGRATULATIONS ON COMPLETING THE TRANSLATION!!
THANK YOU FOR YOUR HARD WORK!! IM SO HAPPY THAT TEARS ARE FLOWING DOWN MY CHEEKS!
I still cant really believe that tomoyo after is completed. After so many years of waiting for it. I’m going to enjoy it fully.
THANKS AGAIN DOKI! YOU ROCK!
And now begins the sad tale of a poor fan with issues…
Patch isn’t working (there I said it..)
Forewarn, I am king of noobs when it comes to this stuff (first VN to be completely honest!)
Dunno if my directory is wrong, or settings aren’t up to par, or whatever.
Trust me when I say I’ve looked and scoured for any solution before being desperate.
But!
Here’s the lowdown: language for non-Unicode programs is set to JP. Installed game. Tried to patch. Boot up. No English.
sadpanda.jpg
Hope not lost. Internet will surely solve it.
Hours.
Hours.
The “all is lost moment!”
And now I’m here.
Apologies in advance for wrong thread to post in and/or desperation, etc.
Thanks as well for this wonderful release and to whomever bestows pity unto me and helps me.
When you installed the game, do you know where the game is installed? After that try repatching at the right location and that should solve it.
Note this patch is one of the easier ones to use. The Chaos;Head Patch was a complete pain in the @ss because it involves .bat files and patching 2 things in the right order and deleting certain files
First, I have located and patched the correct point where it was installed.
No luck there.
However!!!
Joy!!!
After what I feel is a monstrous amount of times of troubleshooting and reinstalling both the game and patch, I have success!
Now to enjoy this cry marathon.
Thanks for your reply of help. I appreciate it!
Read through this thread. This question has already been answered before more than once at this point. I’m too tired right now to list them again…So many people to help all the time, I’m exchausted…
Awesome Job Guys!!!
You really did it as promised:)
Well, surely you had some of us worried for some time but who cares about it now?!
BTW our team is nearing the completion of Kanon translation – just one route to go! (+ a lot of graphics)
After finishing this current project and with your consent, we could take up lovely Tomoyo:P
I hope you you guys wont stop at this and work on more unmeritedly untraslated VNs.
Keep up the good work!!!
I download it by the use of torrent English
then i install the patch then the next thing happen is none where could i find it to play this game help guys thanks….
NyaaTorrents
I’m really new to this kind of stuff.
Do I need any other programs to run it?
Because after I torrented it, all I got was the .txt file,
and no .exe program to run it.
Or am I just silly and didn’t notice something.
Can I get some help please?
You will need the original version of the game, which you can likely find on Yahoo! Auctions or Mandarake’s Akihabara store.
accually if want play tomoyo-ME you dont have wait Memorial Edition patch, you just could use this 😀 http://visualnovelaer.wordpress.com/2010/09/30/how-to-read-visual-novels-in-2-years-time-step-by-step-guide/
there is some device to translate words of visual novel, good luck
That’s only an emergency option for when you don’t have any proper translations at hand, and really want to play a VN. For most people, like me, it’s not a viable option, as the translation quality is too low. We’ll wait for the ME patch, thank you.
Where can i get the game?
Not to be rude, but I wish you people would start bothering to read previous comments in a post before asking a question, so we don’t have to answer the same question a gazillion times over and over again. So this time I’m not going to. Read the previous comments. I myself have already answered this particular question several times. In fact the answer is like just a few posts above you…
and u still responding his post.
so tsundere….
Oh, shut up. 😛 I’m just a very helpful person. 😛
Will the current patch work with the Memorial Edition of the game? Obviously the non translated parts would still be there but would the rest of the game work?
No. The ME Edition and the Standard Edition of the game use different game engines, so this patch will not work with the ME Edition. You’ll have to wait for the ME patch.
OK thanks. Anyone know where I can buy this original version then?
Finding a legal copy of the original version is a whole lot harder than finding one of the ME Edition…That said, I think Clannad Man mentioned where to get it somewhere or other in this topic, but I don’t remember on which page it was…
Is it only me or the game has no sound ????
i’m having a problem that the game work properly while the sound is not working at all….
all the character is no sound….
only the bgm play all time…..
can anyone help me here ?????
Sigh…That’s not even an error…The Standard Edition of Tomoyo After doesn’t HAVE voices, that’s only in the ME Edition. -_- from what you’re saying, the music is working fine as it should, so there is nothing wrong with your game.
but when my friend instal it at his computer, the sound of each character is active…..
is it only me, or this game require directx 11 ?????
Why does mine have voices(excluding Tomoya)? And it’s not the ME edition. I kinda feel left out if I wasn’t supposed to have voice.
yeah my game was completely voiced and i thought that’s how it was supposed to be guess my download i just got lucky
Cagalli & Clannad:
That’s because you two are probably using a downloaded version of the game where the uploader has ported the voices from the PSP version (PSP version also has voices, I forgot to mention) to the PC version of the game.
ha another gundam seed fan here 😛
And here.
SEED is the best. Though I think destiny has a better OST.
The characters are not supposed to be making sounds.
Finally, the wait is over. I though Doki dropped the project, but at least it’s good to see it’s now done.
I have been waiting since Baka-Tsuki version. I’ll do a little check out over this version and my old Baka-Tsuki.
Thanks again Doki!
Doki has never dropped a single project since being founded. Some just take a bit longer than others! XD
Enjoy the translation!
