To the members of the Doki Legion and the worldwide ‘Key’ Kazoku,
It is my utmost pleasure to officially announce the undertaking of an unprecedented project. At the urging of fans and after careful consideration by the Baka-Tsuki Translation Team led by Polarem, it has been agreed upon that the completion of the CLANNAD Visual Novel English Translation Project, including all remaining translations, editing work, and associated checks, will henceforth be entrusted to Doki’s Visual Novel Division. It is both an honor and a privilege to serve as the anchor to arguably the most noteworthy VN translation project ever undertaken.
As many of you are no doubt aware, the CLANNAD VN English Translation Project has been underway for years, having been started in 2005 as a one man project and eventually evolving to encompass many noteworthy names in fansubbing. The effort put fourth by those comprising the “Drama Club / Dango Daikazoku” (演劇部 / だんご大家族) including TheWaffleHouse, Sprocket-Hole Subs, and Baka-Tsuki, has spawned a legion of Clannad fans around the world. Though these groups’ ultimate effect on Clannad fandom cannot be precisely quantified, one would be hard-pressed to find a larger, equally passionate collection of fans than those of the aforementioned series. Such fans deserve a final, properly edited, complete translation patch to satisfy their devotion. That is exactly what they are going to get.
As with Tomoyo After, as well as the prior trustees of the CLANNAD VN Translation Project, the game will not be provided along with the translation patch. The single task of the Doki VN Division is to develop translations of the utmost quality for the games it works on. Due to the zeal exuded by the worldwide community in regard to Japanese culture, precise & picturesque translations of associated works, and of Key works in general, anything less than perfection in regard to this undertaking will be deemed unacceptable. With a highly talented, enthusiastic team in place, and as the final translation project I shall personally oversee, we promise to make every effort to not only produce the preeminent (and first truly complete) Clannad translation patch, but to have it be the gold standard for all such translation projects to follow. Naysayers be warned, you will be eating your words.
Thus far, invitations to work on the project have already been accepted by some specific, talented individuals who have shown an interest in the project’s success. While the size and capabilities of the VN Team are plenty sufficient to complete the work expected of them, they could always use some additional help. Holo encourages anyone able and willing to translate or do editing (text, photoshop, video, quality check) to stop by #doki-recruits and send him a message at holo@doki.co. If you have significant time constraints or feel your work ethic is inadequate to maintain a set schedule, I would suggest that you instead support Doki through your words of thanks. The support received by the community is noted and is a significant driving force for why the VN Team (as well as the rest of Doki’s Staff) contributes their time toward causes they find worthwhile. As always, I personally appreciate your support and thank everyone who has offered encouragement to us.
Be prepared, Clannad fans. Swan songs are always the sweetest.
Thus spake Clannad_Man
Thank you Dys. Ouf of curiosity, is ‘spake’ the past form of ‘spoke’ in the same way ‘shat’ is the ‘shit’?
…
Yes. Yes it is. XD
I love ALL of you. ALLLLLLL OF YOU. Words can’t explain how grateful I am to all that was involved in the project. I appreciated each and every second of your time that you spent in making this project a success and furthermore, releasing it.
Much love <3
We love you more.
<3 <3
See? 2 hearts! Any more and the cops would be onto us...
the post is a VN itself.
Sorry about the length. I just wanted to mention how the project got here and how much the VN Team appreciates the game & its fans. I guess the title of the post would have sufficed, though.
hehe, wasn’t complaining really, just trying to be a retard. i love reading.
Damn but you love hearing yourself talk, don’t you?
Actually, not so much. But I do like responding to everyone, it makes the whole experience more personal.
Thanks for stopping by, Paw! You usually don’t come around the VN area.
thanks man!
Well, you can count on my support this time as well 🙂
Everyone, shawurai contributed many image edits to the Tomoyo After translation project. He deserves a lot of thanks for what he has done, so if you see him around, say, “Thanks”!
Also, I’m very happy to hear you will be returning. We’ve got a lot of work ahead!
Sounds great. I’ll be greatly looking forward to this, and thanks for your hard work in advance ^_^
You’re very welcome, Larnu. Also, it would appear that you are being eaten by a Pikachu. You may want to take a look at that, rumor has it they carry items such as light balls and rabies.
Fantastic news 😛 I wish you all of the best and will be supporting you in the background!!
Much appreciated, my good sir! =D
Thank you 😀
You’re welcome Mr. Keyboard Key Racing League!
Rock! Thanks guys! This is gonna be awesome!
Well, I’d certainly hope so. If it wasn’t awesome, that would mean we did a very, very bad job. Luckily, the possibility of that is about the same as Charlie Sheen quitting cocaine.
So yeah, you have nothing to worry about.
I’m sure I already have CLANNAD in English…
Is this translation going to be better than what’s already out there?
Yes.
This reply was meant for you:

I’m not very familiar with such technical stuff, but will the English Patch which u r gonna finish so to say overwrite an existing applied partial patch? I have a Clannad version with partial patch and it seems like I cannot extract or delete the patch. At least I don’t know how!
This is great news. Thank you all who are going to make this happen. I’ll be looking forward to the Tomoyo After and Clannad English patch! ^^
We do ALL the Clannad, Man!
( ¬‿¬)
What’s already out there is very very rough around the edges. Doki Fansubs will that what’s already out there, give it a thorough makeover, and bring an excellent reading experience to Clannad fans worldwide. 🙂
Polarem will be working on the translation patch as a member of the Doki VN Team. His experience with the project will help make this transition a quick and easy one. We look forward to working together to finish Clannad right!
Clannad Man, you freaking con, I thought you said that Polearem wasn’t communicating with you! Seriously, my body was NOT prepared for this, and thus, you have officially ascended into the territory of the TVTropes Pantheon.
As for you, Polarem, I am glad to see that Baka-Tsuki kept this project moving, and the change of hands to Doki is very pleasing. Now, if you could perhaps convince some people over there to take up Full Metal Panic light novels, especially since there is no more license, I would be extremely glad.
Hope your body recovers soon. The experience of the finished patch will be greatest if one is in good health! 😉
I’m glad that you find the transfer very pleasing. We believe this is the way to go, in order to bring the English translation out into the world in the highest quality, in the shortest amount of time.
As for Full Metal Panic, I’m afraid I don’t hold much sway in their light novels department. I wish you all the best in finding willing translators.
I believe I told our Russian friend that I didn’t receive an answer about what project he was on from Polarem. That was completely accurate!
I’m very glad you now have two complete patches to look forward to.
Also, I love TVTropes! 🙂
C_M stinking again
Exercising can do that, you know. Just please, stop smelling my clothes before I wash them. I’m flattered, but… yeah. No explanation needed.
The current patch is definitly rough around the edges to say to least, so I’m glad a VN with the quality like clannad is going to get the translation effort it deserves.
Do you reckon it’ll be a lot less work then tomoyo? The current patch is rough around the edges, but when I played it, most of it seemed pretty complete with some bugs and hick ups here and there.
ps.: this might be a bit early to ask but, does that mean Doki is planning to stay in the translating VN “business”? Or is more a matter of having key’s visual novels translated properly ( Perhaps air aswell at some point? 😛 )
The VN Team members have their files out and are ready to grind away at those rough edges. As I’ve said in the past, I feel that there are many quality sections of the VN which need little, if any, editing. However, other parts will need substantial changes to be made. Due to the size of the project, even with an initial translation to work off of, this poses a major obstacle which will rival Tomoyo After in scope. I’d say its still a bit early to judge how much more or less work the project will really be.
I don’t think anyone here has any intention to sell translations, if that is what you are inferring. Ultimately the VN team decides what they want to work on. I wanted to complete this project before hanging up my boots, but that doesn’t mean that someone else won’t take over the VN Department when I’m gone.
Ah no wasn’t talking about about selling translations, sorry if it sounded that way xD I was pretty much just suggesting that I like the way doki is passionate about doing these translations, though that might be because it’s from key’s works. That’s why I figured it’d be nice if doki kept up the visual novel translating 🙂
I’m hoping they’ll pick up from where someone else dropped off on the old Air Translation Project some day as well, but they’ve already done so much by picking up Clannad and Tomoyo After, it feels a bit much to ask. ^^’
You guys continue to solidify your awesome status. Thanks for the hard work.
You’re welcome. Though quite frankly, I think having the noun ‘Taco’ in one’s name is pretty sweet as well. Is it homemade, or perhaps one of those Dorito Tacos sold in North American Taco Bells?
For those who don’t know…
Haven’t even watched the anime series. Oh well, if at least one in the whole world plays it it’ll be worth the effort.
…
I’ll just say that watching all 49 episodes in order would be very much worth your time.
Please, don’t mention the movie.
What movie? The movie doesn’t excist. Nor does the 2002 anime version of Kanon. ; ) I’m sure alot of people already know this, but for those who don’t: The reason for why the 2006 anime version of Kanon came into being was that there were huge ammounts of complaints that the 2002 one didn’t do the game justice. That says something.
In case anyone is interested in an example for the errors one might encounter while using the current clannad english patch: http://i.imgur.com/8ug1y.jpg
Hi Sahasralah, thanks for reporting. That bug was fixed in an updated patch on 5 March 2011. You can download the current one from clannad.game-maps.net
If you find any more errors (aside from bad English), please report them here (at least until Doki sets up its own bug-reporting system)
Nevertheless, there are still bugs, edits, and translations that must be done throughout the VN.
Looks like I’ll get some help responding to posts! XD
FYI: Polarem is currently in the process of updating various sites and forums which check on the status of the CLANNAD VN. Here is what he has updated so far:

I wish you the best of luck and hope that the quality would be updated to one that is equal to Kanon’s level. The current one out there is quite buggy on Fukko’s path where Nagisa calls you No Strings Attached or something. Also, the animations aren’t translated either which is a pain during the biggest scenes in after story. Finally I remember some lines having multiple translations or empty
Hi stan, thanks for your wishes. It is our goal to improve the quality to at least Kanon’s level (higher, if at all possible 🙂 ) The bug you mentioned was fixed in an updated patch on 5 March 2011. You can download the current one from clannad.game-maps.net
If you find any more errors (aside from bad English), please report them here (at least until Doki sets up its own bug-reporting system)
I actually still found some minor problems in that route. They’ll be fixed.
Tomoyo >3
Thanks Doki, and anyone involved in this.
The credits list is HHHUUUUUGGGGEEEE. I hope to give them all recognition, however.
Doki, and anyone involved. WHY WON’T YOU STOP BEING AWESOME? Thank you very much for the re-editing (or in this case Doki-fication) of the translation of Clannad. Now I’m just gonna ask Mr. Clannad Man or whoever’s in charge, when’s the release date? (I’m just curious of what they’re gonna say. 😀 )
That would still be me, Takeshi. And just as with Tomoyo After (before the release announcement), no release date will be announced until we are properly prepared.
We do appreciate your support though!
PS – anyone who commented beforehand, I’ll get to your posts soon, but I’m a little swamped right now, lol
Oh yeah! Got my name mentioned. XD Thanks for the reply. 😀
My Body is ready!
Judging by your profile pic, I’m not so sure…
It’s been ages sinces I last posted any comments here but I gotta say that’s awesome news. Clannad Man you’re my hero lol.
I’m glad this announcement was able to get you out of hiding! There’s a passionate bunch about to work on this patch. With the addition of Polarem and select people from other groups, the assembled cast should make any Clannad fan confident that this is going to turn out really well.
Yeah I know how passionate you are about Key stuff, almost as passionate as me lmao. I give this the anteater seal of approval lol. But seriously, it’s geat news to hear that the VN is finally getting finished and getting the good treatment it deserves. I’m tired of seeing those question marks, incomplete edit comments and such.
This are big news for me, i thought that the Clannad English patch that i have was done… maybe that is one of the reasons why i didn´t got After Story after playing all the principal routes D:
Anyway i wish you the best doki. Thanks for all!
The one that Doki is coming out with will not only be translated, but edited, photoshoped, bug fixed, quality checked and beta tested. It’s gunna’ look nicccceee~!
