Suzumiya Haruhi-chan no Yuuutsu - 01-06 (BD)

Workin’ on them backlogs.

Edit: Again, this is Haruhi-chan, the short-episode ONA series, NOT the TV series.

You’re probably wondering what’s the holdup with 1080p. Basically, the problem is the patch. Some reason, the patch to convert from SA to DA is like over 600 MB. The FLAC is only like 100 MB. So I am debating what to do.

I’ll probably release 1080p in a Volume batch.

720p (h264): [Doki] Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu (2009) – 03 – The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi Part 3 (1280×720 h264 BD AAC) [A7162B54].mkv

And it begins. I will probably be releasing this on episode per episode basis, and this should finish in time for Clannad ~After Story~.

Order of release will follow the Blu-Ray order. Check this.

Exclusive to this release are the following features:

  • Single Audio releases.
  • You will be able to patch all files into Dual Audio versions.
  • Each release has 3 .ass streams.
  • 1. Edited a.f.k. – Basically means Eastern name order. (Default)
  • 2. Original a.f.k. – The a.f.k. script untouched.
  • 3. Songs + Typesetting – Self explanatory.
  • All songs fully softsubbed.
  • All bonus features will be ripped (and subbed if applicable).

Suzumiya Haruhi no Shoushitsu (Blu-Ray)

Suzumiya Haruhi no Shoushitsu - Movie

When Yuki smiled, I almost had an heart attack. It was close.

10 months after initially announcing my plans to release this movie, I finally present it to you. I believe this is the only English release (apart from Mazui’s) that does not borrow Mazui’s translation.

Special thanks go to:

  • Arr-nii – Translating 2,000+ lines is no easy feat and he managed to do this in under a week! Many thanks.
  • Exhilem – Checking the translation.
  • masat – Timed over 2,000 lines!
  • anon1 – For editing/QCing the entire movie.
  • sm2345 – For QCing the movie.
  • Pahndamonium – For K-timing the songs.
  • And of course you – For your patience.

Comparisons

Ideally I would like to make comparisons with Mazui’s final encode, but unfortunately they have not released, and I do not feel it is fair to compare with that shitty raw their LQ release uses.
Therefore I will compare with Coalgirls and Delicio.us. Coalgirls release I have to download ovenight, but I will post up a comparison with Delicio.us’s encode. There are 4 shots.

Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu (BD) – TV Version Special ED

Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu - TV Version Special ED

This should indicate the quality you can expect on season 1’s episodes. Season 2 are much much better.

Karaoke is soft-subbed and turned off by default, you know the drill by now 🙂

This comparison should show you how poor the source was, and I can only do so much to improve it. I cannot magic detail into the video that has been destroyed by KyoAni’s upscaling process from 480p.

Season 2’s quality is similar to Kanon/Clannad 1080p, so at least you can enjoy Endless Eight without eyecancer.

Doki vs Source (FOR Special ED ONLY)

It turns out that actual episode ED has different filters to the special ED filters. Basically, KyoAni were lazy and did not filter their Special ED.

Actual episode comparison:

Delicious 720p vs Doki 720p

Delicious 480p vs Doki 480p

1080p not available yet.

Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu (Blu-Ray)

Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu

The Blu-Rays are out. I am hunting for the BDMVs now.

Subs: a.f.k (For both seasons)
Finalised versions:

  • 1920×1080 h264 FLAC
  • 1280×720 h264 AAC
  • 848×480 h264 AAC

I will be releasing episode by episode, in the order that they appear on the Blu-Ray Disks.

From the comments, the majority of people are in favour of no Dual Audio. In that case, the plan will be to release single audio, however, I will also release the English audio files seperately, and provide a patch for you to mux it in easily. I will provide both FLAC and 192 kbps AAC versions of the English Audio.

I will include multiple subtitle streams:

  • a.f.k subs (Easter name order) + songs/signs [Default]
  • a.f.k subs (original) + songs/signs
  • songs/signs only (use if you mux in the English Audio)
  • Might include the official english subs as well, time permitting.

As Actar suggested, I will rip absolutely everything from the disks. All bonus materials, etc, etc.

I am still taking suggestions. Post away.
