Hello everyone! Approximately 17 months ago, I decided to expand into the area of Visual Novels, and take on Tomoyo After as our first project. Finally, we are able to present the completed patch to you. Thank you all for your patience! Many people have been involved in this project, and I would like to thank Clannad_Man for his leadership. If it wasn’t for him, who knows when we would have finished this project. I’d also like to thank Delwack for his role in leading after Clannad_Man became occupied with RL. Special mention to the translators Kuzu, NeWbY and egshady for persevering with this project. A full list of credits will be included with the readme.
Delwack has a few words to say on this release.
Greetings everyone! I’m Delwack, a relatively new addition to the Doki VN team. Before I get into some of the other details, just a few quick note on the patch itself. This patch executable is rather simplistic and it uses the default director TA is normally installed to. If you chose to install TA to a directory other than the default one, be sure to point the patcher to the right directory! Note that if you’ve played the game before in Japanese, the save games are not compatable with the English version. Please delete any files found in C:\KEY\智代アフター\SAVEDATA (default directory again) before installing this patch.
With that out of the way…
I joined when Doki absorbed the Clannad project, and offered to lend a hand with Tomoyo After. As with many projects, Doki’s first attempt at translation a visual novel with Tomoyo After has not gone as smoothly as we would have liked. A lot of work went not only into the text, but into getting all the things around it working properly. While we have worked hard to solve many issues, there are still outstanding issues both major and minor that we are looking to resolve. I’m here today to give you a flavor for some of the known issues and challenges that we are still looking to overcome.Major issues:
Font selection: The default font used is MS Gothic (MS ゴシック) with bolding and shadows enabled. The font options are not currently functioning properly. Attempts to change the font will result in using the lowest quality, no-shadow, no bolding version of the selected font. It is not possible to revert back to the default font as set up without reinstalling the patch.Line Overruns: Luckily the game doesn’t crash when a large chunk of text runs over the 3-lines allocated to it. It does, however, cause some odd corruption of the name tag box. This is likely an issue inside of rlbable, as this behavior doesn’t appear on other VNs that share the same resources.
Known Crash Issues: From the start-up screen, attempting to load a save on the first line of July 14th will crash the game.
Minor issues:
D&T line-overruns: The auto-line breaking used throughout the game doesn’t work properly for D&T. We are working on either fixing it or adding in manual line breaks.D&T skill cut-ins: Minor display issues with 2 cut-in skills (uses an incorrect older style for the cutins.)
D&T item name inconsistency: There are a handful of item and skill images that are inconsistent with the text. Some of this is intentional, due to space limits, but we are still working on fixing all the inconsistencies.
D&T item puns: The bane of translation effort, there are a frightful number of puns with the item names and descriptions. Figuring them all out of half the battle, trying to properly convey them the other half.
Some system message titles still in JP: We’ve tried to catch everything, but there are some occasional system messages (like if you try to close the program through alt+f4) that are still in JP. These should not adversely affect your play experience.
Despite these issues, I hope you enjoy this patch, and look forward to the day when we release a final version.
And a few words from Clannad_Man.
Greetings Doki Legion, from your brother in arms, the Clannad Man.
What a journey this has been, eh? I don’t know about you, but from my perspective, it’s been a wild ride. With rapids. Several class five rapids. But, we got through them, together.
The release of this translation patch is something I think we’ve all been looking forward to for a long time. Sure, the patch isn’t entirely polished (yet), but to have even arrived at this stage is something I’ve had a difficult time wrapping my head around. We did it! And that, ladies and gents, means I have some heartfelt confessions to make.I cannot begin to properly express my gratitude to the fine men and women who have worked on this project as members of the Doki Visual Novel Department. It has been a true joy to work with each and every one of you. I know better than anyone the extremes it took to co-ordinate everyone’s busy schedules together, but you stuck with it, even though I’m certain my many demands placed a burden on your shoulders. For your persistence, passion, and for the great service you have provided to the Key Kazoku as well as to Clannad Fans worldwide:
Thank you!
To the many people who worked on this project from its Baka-Tsuki days, kudos for setting the foundation and getting the ball rolling. Though I’m sure progress was not as forthcoming as you would have liked, my hope for you is that when you play through the patch, you’ll be able to relive your experiences volunteering at B-T, and gain a sense of pride from knowing your contributions will live on. For your ambition and vision:
Thank you!
I must give a mention to Holo and Dys for initially reaching out to me to assist with the project. Even though I resisted, you kept at it, and as a result I have been able to experience something I will cherish for the rest of my days. You have been respectful of my conditions and wishes, and have always been open to suggestions. For your service as diplomats:
Thank you!
Finally, to everyone who has supported the project since its inception… As the VN Team can attest, you’ve made the entire experience worthwhile. Sometimes all the motivation it took for the team to get going was a quick look at the main TA post to see all of the appreciation you showered upon them. Though not directly involved, the fans of the Tomoyo After Translation Project have played as large a role in the scheme of things as anyone. Even those from traditionally hostile groups have been cordial, and I respect them for that. It is due to the Doki Legion and Clannad Fans from around the world that this project was resurrected from its neglected state and raised to the position it’s at today. For everyone who has ever shown any interest in the project, the VN Team, or works from Key/Visual Art’s:
THANK YOU!!!
It is my sincere desire that everyone enjoys the patch and supports the great people over at Key/Visual Art’s by purchasing a version of the game. While of course I cannot force you to do so, providing some sort of financial support to Key will allow them to continue making great games for everyone to enjoy. I won’t preach, since many of you likely don’t want to hear it; just consider respecting their efforts in some way.
To conclude, here are the plans for the VN Division in the immediate future: work to polish the TA patch will continue, succeeded by efforts to translate the new portions found in the Memorial edition of the game, and finally followed by the final translations / edits for CLANNAD. Though my own role in this process is drawing to a close, I ask that you continue to show the amazing support to the people at Doki as you have done for me and the rest of the Visual Novel Division. Exciting times lie ahead, in each of our unique paths. Forging onward is where the fun really beings!Be careful out there, folks. I’ll catch ya’ on the flip side.
Happy trails!

Thank you for the release!
Doki delivers, as usual.
Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these fansubbers from the swift completion of their appointed tasks.
More consistent than the post office!
Doesn’t take much. The post office people fail all the time in my experience, so they aren’t exactly perfectly consistent. ┐( ̄ー ̄)┌
Quick note on the Linux and Mac patch: I’d like anyone who runs it to make some quick comments on bugs (mainly with the installer, but also with the game itself) and send them to tomoyoafterlinux@gmail.com . This will allow me to make the final patch that much better.
In order to get the best gameplay, rather than installing the “release” version of RLVM, install the source version from the git repository (search google for rlvm git, i’m sure you’ll find it). The game is nowhere near unplayable with the old version, but the git version fixed many bugs. Big thanks to Elliot Glaysher for his wonderful program there too.
Also, I apologize for the bad Mac patch on this unpolished release, it’s still under development, and I am still learning how the OSX GUI works, I promise the final one will be much better.
Again, Swiss was responsible for the Mac and Linux patches; those of you that use those OS should give him a nice round of applause for the work he’s done.
Stop track free from f-ing autoplaying.
In addition to those above, you can add Opera 12.02 64 bit and waterfox (64 bit firefox.)
I think Holo did that as a way to let people know the page had changed – and also to set the mood.
should have read three – no idea where free came from.
Ummmm… what am I doing wrong? I installed the game and patch and everything is in English except for the main story text. I’ve got the introduction warning thing and all of the menus including the settings in English.
Check where you installed the patch because all the menu options are english to begin with. If you installed it in the wrong place, then you don’t have the patch
Alright cool i got it thanks
Thank you stan!
copy the SEEN.TXT again? What OS are you using?
Awesomesauce!
Thank you very much for your perseverance Doki! I am sure it has not been easy. I look forward to the future as well :3
Hi Tythen, thanks for stopping by.
Time is a great thing; our respective futures hold untold possibilities. I wish everyone here, and Doki, the best in their future endeavors. It’s been fun!
キタ━━━━━━(゚∀゚)━━━━━━!!!!!
I KNEW IT, I KNEW IT. THE BLUEBERRY PANCAKE HAS NOT BEEN DISAPPOINTED.
Thank you guys, really, really thank you for taking on this monster; For giving up your free time without taking any profit and for doing what looks like a damn fine job. Thank you. Gracias. Thank you. ;__;
Now I’ll be able to
tastesample Tomoyo whenever I want. Thanks to you. I really have no words.(Descarga Completa; Tomoyo_After_English_v1.00_[Doki].exe se ha terminado de descargar.)
Oops, seems like it’s time for me to go. I’ll be back soon, with my impressions and hopefully not tech issues. I’m pretty good at following instructions so there should be none, really. See ya, guys. \o/
“tastesample”
; D
Well of course. :V
I need to know… how will I make the metaphysical, truthful, Tomoyo-flavoured cake otherwise?
Good point. ; )
I would actually bake it and give it to the team in thanks, if I wasn’t so far away that it’d spoil before reaching them. ;_;
; D
Ship parts of the cake to locations all over the world. I will find them!
But the merengue would spoil before even reaching Perú or going farther than Argentina! (´;ω;`)
*cough*
Well, know that if you ever come to Chile, you’ll have some guaranteed cake. Yes, really.
can i has cake?
Picture this (http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-e8-IXG9tDnk/Th7Zh_awDBI/AAAAAAAAACY/osm1f0DAdGo/s1600/awesome_cake_by_vn1337.jpg) but with more colour, tastier and spongier-looking and with a Tomoyo wig made of merengue.
Yes, you all can has. \o/
Nom nom nom… ( °٢° )
You’re quite welcome Helen. Thanks for stopping by and sticking with everyone these past few weeks.
…
“Now I’ll be able to tastesample Tomoyo whenever I want. Thanks to you. I really have no words.”
I.. I really don’t know what to say. ^^’
That was a jab to Mr. Rokudaime. It’s amusing to have left you speechless, though. :insert mischievous laugh here:
Naw, CM, no need to thank me back. I’m only here because an accident (a quite humorous one at that) forced me to stay at home a couple of months and made me rediscover my love for animu and VNs. When I go back to work I probably won’t have that much time to spend here, but really, it has been a pleasure.
I would’ve liked to discover this earlier, though, and stick around all the way with the weird jokes and all. But hey, there’s still ME and Clannad left, so I didn’t come in that late. I think. Maybe.
That one was a bit of an internal joke between me and Helen after I made a bit of harmless and friendly fun of one of her comments earlier here: http://doki.co/2011/04/27/dokis-visual-novel-department-recruiting-tls-for-tomoyo-after/comment-page-25/#comments 😉
Finally Tomoyo After is out.
Congrats on completing the patch, even though it’s not fully polished yet.
Thanks Clannad_Man & Doki.
No problem, Omega! I’m certain the team will get a polished patch out soon enough. Thanks for the thanks! =)
Of course it’s released when I won’t be near a computer for a week… And to think the same thing happened when it was originally supposed to be released… I’ve decided the universe doesn’t want me to play this game.
Hey, you got here soon enough after the release. Now it gives you something to look forward to. Bask in the anticipation, Mr. Marx!
Awesome! Thanks guy for all your work on this project! I look forward to the final release and of course CLANNAD!! Keep up the good work!
To conclude, here are the plans for the VN Division in the immediate future: work to polish the TA patch will continue, succeeded by efforts to translate the new portions found in the Memorial edition of the game, and finally followed by the final translations / edits for CLANNAD.
…I fail.
I was not supposed to reply to that post, and I was also supposed to ask that does the quoted part mean that a) the patch won’t work with ME, or b) it will work with ME but will leave certain things untranslated.
The engine for the Memorial edition differs from that of the standard edition, so the patch just released is incompatible for the Memorial edition. The VN Team plans to translate the ME edition in the near future.
It was a joy to work in it, Frediloc. I look forward to the day when I can play Clannad with a perfectly translated & edited patch. I will say that the work The Drama Club did on it was quite good, though. No other VN I know of has quite as storied a translation history as Clannad.
Text and languages successfully patched. Although, I’ve run across something strange, menu sounds work but BGM and voices don’t.
That’s odd. It seems to be an isolated incident. Still, report the problem in Doki’s forums and someone should be able to help you out.
>mfw I get mentioned in the readme
Thanks a lot to everyone involved!
I’m downloading the torrent right away!
Congratulations, TomoyaX. Your picture was passed around more times than I can count between Baka-Tsuki & Doki. For that, you shall forever be immortalized!
Totally excited for this. But this is just the english patch correct? Not the game included? Where would I be able to download the game?
search on anime-sharing or nyaa or whatever you want
“It is my sincere desire that everyone enjoys the patch and supports the great people over at Key/Visual Art’s by purchasing a version of the game. “
Sigh… -_-
“We need ur bucks, dude!”
Buy the Memorial Edition off of J-Box or something (or use a proxy and buy it off a Japanese shop – which is what I normally recommend – but the price on J-Box for this game in particular is for once not shockingly bad) and use the cheapo shipping. By the time it arrives the ME patch will be that much closer : P.
I’ve never understood why they still keep the J-Box domain in addition to the J-List one, when they’re exactly the same site…Also, they are always pretty expensive compared to other sites, when it comes to figures for instance…
That’s great… but I still need to play the first one… any hint as to how long that’ll be?
first one? Which one? Clannad? If so this one if a spin-off. If I’m not mistaken, correct me if I’m wrong here.
I was asking about Clannad. This is the spin-off.
Oh my bad, I read it wrong. Visual Novel site says
Very long (> 50 hours) for Clannad
I was actually asking how long it would be before Doki finishes their translation. 😛
It’ll happen, and we’re not being lazy, but we’ve got Memorial Edition to do and then Clannad isn’t small at all, so I wouldn’t hold my breath.
The VN Term’s To-Do List:
1) Polish this patch
2) Complete Memorial Translation/Edits
3) Complete Clannad Edits
@Your last post since I can’t reply to it. Well then. I sure fail at reading today.
This is the most awesome thing I’ve heard in ages. Thank you so very very very much. This has honestly made my day.
Now, to be good and get this assignment done before playing TA….
I’m curious, man of many faces – did you complete the assignment? ^^
Light Colors yes !
Mango, welcome back! Nice to see you lurking around! XD
I’ve been listening to 22 different versions of Light Colors this past week. You know, to get into the mood =P
No rest for C_M. Time to get started on Clannad.
No rest for the weary, eh? “Back to the forge with you!”
So as I pray, “UNLIMITED TOMOYO WORKS!”
; D Imagine an army of Tomoyo’s. ; D Imagine Breaker! (how many here get the reference?)
*Raises hand*
Seriously though, that’d be… scary. A field, full of Tomoyos stuck to the ground and slowly raising to help their maker with their monstruous strength. Also, their crafter should be able to project them. Project Tomoyos. Maybe he even swings them by the leg as a weapon! D:
Wow, thinking about it, that really IS scary! 😮
Speaking of FSN stuff, Fate/Zero S2 has come out on Bluray not too long ago! X3 I can’t wait for UTW to release it! X3
:girlish fanscream:
I did not know that. How did I not know. ಥ‿ಥ
Unlimited Tomoyo Works… sounds good to me!
…I’m not sure if I should mention this, but I already caught a typo in the script. Date is July 8th, when Tomoyo is helping Tomo put on her uniform. I have the word “puts” when it should be “put.”
If I find anything else, it’ll be mentioned. Again, though, thank you for getting this release out.
Not doubting your grammar skills, and I can’t check the text you’re refering to, but just in case: “put” is correct when it’s past tense, and “puts” is correct when it’s present tense. I’m guessing what is going on is something like “she puts her clothes on”, in present tense, since it is being done there and then (I’m assuming, since Tomoyo is helping Tomo put on her uniform), and not in the past. In that case “puts” is correct, and not a typo.
Well, if it was a normal use, puts would be correct. However, this is the actual line…
“While Tomoyo helps Tomo puts on her uniform, I sort out the contents of her backpack.”
Now, I’m pretty sure that you don’t have a secondary verb (puts) with a s for present tense when the primary verb (helps) is already present tense.
Ah, yes, in this case you are certainly correct. I didn’t know what the actual sentence was, so I had no way of telling whether it was really a typo or not. : p
Thanks for the report. We’ve updated it for the next patch.
Look at Delwack, keeping busy. Thanks for reporting the error, JB!
Now its time to look for the game installer and get this patch. Thanks! I hope I can squeeze some time to have a marathon on this…
There is a basic installer included in the patch, if that’s what you mean…
Enjoy the translation!
Cool, I’m going to have to check this out when I beat Persona 3 and then catch up on my huge backlog of other games I still need to beat.
Whenever you get around to it, I hope you enjoy it =)
WOOOOOOO ! Tomoyo After patch is finally released 😀
Congrats to the translation team led by Clannad Man, everyone in the Doki LEGION are in your debt for completing a monster of a project.
as much as i wanna play the original, i will remain patient for the Memorial version since i was advised on the extended dialogue added. once that has veen translated, i will join in and enjoy the renouned KEY creation.
THANK YOU !
Hola, kain_tl! The Doki Legion is strong!! Therefore, you must stay strong and hang in there while you wait for Memorial.
This project posed unique challenges, but I’m proud at the way the VN Team was able to tackle them.
I’m one of those guys who visited the blog post of this project since its started almost year and a half ago, never commented until now, well, here i am.
Congratulations guys, this is unique and beautiful, such a hard work for no money at all… you guys are something.
My copy of Tomoyo After will be arriving next Tuesday (just in time, thank you) and my 18th birthday is the next Thursday, so no problem there.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for this, than you for this birthday present, thank you for your work and effort, thank you for you quality, perfectionism and professionalism.
Greetings from Guanare city, Portuguesa state, Venezuela.
Happy Birthday, Mylity! I appreciate your words on behalf of the Doki Visual Novel Department, especially concerning their perfectionism and professionalism. This was done out of the kindness of their hearts, and I’m certain they appreciate that you recognize it. I know I do.
I hope you enjoy the patch. Also, thanks for spreading the word of Key through Venezuela!
I’ll be sure to seed both versions in my seedbox for as long as possible to allow faster downloads for everyone. Thanks for the awesome work!
Greetings, Mullah Nasruddin. I’m sure Holo will appreciate your offer!
