The story has some relations to the previous game and some unrelated (story-wise) to the other anime series. They’re all in the same universe through, P4 is a couple years after P3. No need to play or watch anything, consider this a stand-alone series!

Whenever karaoke is on the screen, I get a shitton of lag. It wasn’t all that big of a deal with the OP, but during the fight scene, I kept having to catch the video up with the audio. Is there a way to turn off karaoke while still keeping subs or will I just have to turn off the subs completely whenever a song starts?
How old is your PC?
This karaoke works on my 8 year old Pentium 4 on linux with no vdpau acceleration. Meaning the lag is most likely related to the version of vobsub you’re using or you just have a ridiculously bad PC.
Stop using vobsub/vsfilter it can only handle 1-2 lines at the same time and minimum effects or lag will happen.
Switch to mpcs’ internal sub render or to libass.
Was the translation based on the TAN subs or did you translate it from scratch?

Definitely, such as this is unBEARable sort of thing. It’s really good in the english translation of the game.
Bear puns were just a way to localize Kuma’s (Teddy) way of talking. Much like Ika, he always says Kuma at the end of his sentences. Considering I hated the squiddlyness of Ika Musume’s release, no bear puns is better.
Also, he’s not King Moron in the original version. That’s yet again another localization change.
Well I don’t really like puns as I think they’re stupid, unless it’s really clever, and not having bear jokes won’t change a thing anyway.

The teacher. He’s called Kinshiro Morooka hence why he’s nicknamed Morokin. Changed to King Moron in translation, probably since:
A)Morokin only makes sense if you use the japanese’s name order.
B)Morokin is already two letters short of being Moron King anyway.
C)He’s a total moron (and a douchebag)
Oh my… don’t remind me of the catastrophe that is the attack of the ‘squidding’. It might be funny at the beginning, but it gets really stupid after awhile, making Ika Musume appear far more silly than she actually is.
Yes, she has a “~de geso” (geso = squid tentacles) at the end of her speech, but that really shouldn’t translate to puns or random ’squid’ words in the middle of her dialogue in English. Squid-vasion? Seriously? Crunchyroll might have a ton of issues like region locks and quality, but I think one of their biggest issues is their translation quality… or lack there of. If they were able to do such a stellar job for Steins;Gate, don’t see why they couldn’t do the same for Ika Musume.
King Moron was a failure of a TL in the official P4 TL. We won’t use it.
Bear jokes were also added in the official TL to make up for the lack of “kuma” after every second sentence, which we also won’t be including, because fuck, it’s annoying enough to hear it, without writing it as well.
Nice to see you doing this show. I noticed a one or two missing words here and there but I’m too tired to go and confirm them. Might return and point them out later, otherwise so far so good.
A little sad that we won’t get to see the OP until next week and I sure hope the use of the game’s OP song wasn’t a one-episode thing.
At least on the SD version, there seems to be an omitted verb at 11:17 into the script, the subtitle says “Have you (omitted) about that Midnight Television thing that everyone’s been talking about?” The verb at (omitted) is pretty obviously missing, although I can guess what would fit.
I’ve played Persona 4 (not completely through, but at least past the halfway mark), so I’m interested to see how closely they record the script in the game. Thanks for your work on this!

Although not the fault in any way of the group, my download speed on this torrent is dreadful at the moment, seems barely anyone is sharing above 100kb/s. I’m currently getting under 200kb/s and seeding over 300kb/s on a 30mb Virgin Media connection lol

You aren’t wrong. That’s definitely a mistake there. Maybe you didn’t notice, but there were quite a few more errors in this episode:
01:46 — http://i.imgur.com/S7egf.jpg -> Nice job typesetting. Yes, it happens in the 720p as well.
04:14 — “Enka singer Hiiragi Misuzu-san and Inaba council secretary Namatame Tarou, recently married, have…” -> Someone needs to learn about appositive phrases.
04:29 — “I know you’ll only be here a year, but let’s make it a good one.” -> “you’ll only be here for a year”
04:53 — “There isn’t a lot to do here for someone from the city” -> Most sentences end with a punctuation mark. A period works here.
08:58 — “Sorry, it was an accident… Can you wait until I make the money to pay you back?” -> People should really learn how to use ellipses. You don’t use them as an easy way out. They look horrible in the middle of a line, and they look even worse when there isn’t even a pause in speaking. (No, he did not pause long enough to merrit an ellipse.)
10:20 — “If you want, I’ll buy you some. As thanks for helping me back there.” -> Why the hell is a subordinating clause chilling alone like it knows what it’s doing? This can easily be corrected by making a complex sentence here.
11:17 — The mistake that Ezrial mentioned. Nice catch.
11:48 — “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it!” -> Comma splice. Your QC needs a grammar review.
12:51 — This is in the typesetting: “TV newscaster Yamano in unsolved death case” -> Again, there’s an appositive phrase here that needs a comma. The QC should check the typesetting.
13:16 — “He said he was up all night again last night.” -> This phrase is awkward and redundant. Replacing “last night” with “yesterday” or something similar could have easily solved this. Usually, when someone says “up all night” it refers to the, surprise, night.
14:43 — http://i.imgur.com/jvm5y.jpg -> Unlike some of the other things that were typeset, I actually wanted to know what this said.
16:22 — “That she was the person who found the body.” -> This line isn’t connected with the previous or next line. This is another subordinating clause that’s chilling by itself. You can easily avoid this by removing “that”. You wouldn’t lose the meaning.
16:26 — “I guess that’s why she wasn’t at school today. And why she didn’t reply to my mail.” -> Why are these written as two independent clauses? You went as far as adding the word “and”, so you obviously failed at making a compound sentence here. It already looks bad when you do this over two lines, but this is in one line, so it’s even worse.
24:19 — “Yamano the newscaster appeared on Midnight Television.” -> This is the third appositive phrase error this episode. You need to hire a new Editor/QC because this one doesn’t know enough grammar.

08:58 is the only one that is arguable, so I’ll give that to you. If you honestly think that there are only 2-3 real errors, you should repeat school and learn more about sentence structures (You should’ve leaned it in grade school).
Also, you argue that your subs are written to represent natural speech. I have no problem with that as that’s a normal thing to do; however, if you read the sentences out loud, you would understand that no one talks like that.
Also, I am just an anime fan who only wishes for good quality releases. I have no idea why you would show such strong antagonist to some criticism that I was kind enough to point out. I really thought Doki was a loving and nice group, so I have no idea why you are not only swearing at me, but you are also insulting me. I’ve already left the past behind me, so like everyone else who posts mistakes here, I wish to be treated just as respectfully.

All I did was point out some errors. I’ve read a few other comments of criticism, and I would only wish you be more like Mimori who respectfully takes criticism.
No one helped me write an error log, so your accusations are wrong. I don’t have any proof that anyone helped me, so you got me there; however, these mistakes are really easy to find with seventh grade grammar knowledge, so it’s obvious that I didn’t need any help.

In a nonrestrictive appositive phrase, the phrase is extra information and can be removed without changing the basic meaning of the sentence. “Bob Smith, a local baseball player, is a good friend of mine.” This can be turned into “Bob Smith is a good friend of mine” without losing the main point of the original sentence.
So now let’s put nonrestrictive appositive phrases into the line in question: “Enka singer, Hiiragi Misuzu-san, and Inaba council secretary, Namatame Tarou, recently married, have…” First off, it sounds wanky. But now let’s remove these “unnecessary” appositives: “Enka singer and Inaba council secretary, recently married, have…” No. No no no no no.
The same thing goes with second “appositive error” you pointed out. The third one could go either way in my opinion.
Azure, I don’t have a problem with you or anyone else pointing out mistakes. But please make sure you’re pointing out real mistakes. It sounds like you’ve already gotten the Caly brainwashing and had Strunk & White rammed up your ass or something. Dys said it perfectly: “…subtitles are written to represent natural speech.” We’re not writing prose here; we’re translating speech. People don’t always speak in perfect sentences. Subs should not be convoluted to make it appear as if they do.

I was watching your A-Channel BD 1080p release Episode 1 and the video lags from 08:11 to 08:16. I noticed is due to the moving subs. Now I also get this problem with any other videos that have moving subs.
I have the latest CCCP, and my computer seems capable enough to play this stuff:

I use MPC… Do I need to change the Output? I have EVR Custom Press selected.

Actually I didn’t have this kind of problem with my previous computer… now this one is supposed to be better, but I get this kind of problem… I actually have to edit the subs with aegisub so that the file works just fine.
Your NVidia is quite powerful, did you tried madVR renderer? With that GPU even 2120p will play smoothly.
I did, but the subs won’t show up. I have to look around to see if I have to change some settings or what.
You could try going into the CCCP settings and selecting “VSFilter Subpicture Pre-buffering”. I find this usually helps to smooth things out whenever the typesetting gets a bit heavy.
It’s worth noting that while this will improve performance, it will also cause degradation in the quality of karaoke and animated TS. It’s a bit of a trade up.
I tried, and the video doesn’t lag anymore… but now the regular subs blink whenever there is a moving sub >_<
I'm guessing in the end I will just have to do a fresh re-installation in my PC of Everything.
