Somehow I knew Kuu-chan facialing herself was going to be the screencap.

If there was an option, I’d stop using Microsoft.

The torrent behavior changed in general, doesn’t matter if you’re using IE8, IE7, Chrome, FF, or any other browser. It was really wonky for a few days, where it took more tries than usual to see the tracker and get to downloading, though the torrents have usually always needed about 3 tries to get going without waiting awhile.

However, now it’s better than it was before, open the torrent, wait a bit, and it sees the tracker on the first try.

But anyway, yeah, the issues are probably with the tracker and whatever difference is due to that, and not browsers that suddenly stopped working like they have for years.

Oh and thanks for the release!

The torrent problem we’re talking about has to do with IE displaying the .torrent file as text in the browser (which looks like a bunch of jumbled up garbage text). See: http://img813.imageshack.us/img813/3249/hdtorrent.png
FF/Chrome hasn’t been experiencing this issue.
The tracker thing has to do with what tracker your torrent client tries to connect to first, and even if it isn’t able to connect to the tracker it should still grab some peers via DHT and connect to the other trackers in the torrent.

I know about that, and I’ve had it happen a few times too from the browser inadvertently opening the .torrent file, but for the most part, I can click on a link, it will ask what I want to do, and I just straight open it, and the torrent program opens automatically from there.

IE9 ROX, INCORRECT HTTP HEADERS NOT

  • Ry

IE is only there for people so they can download Google Chrome or Firefox 4 xD

  • Slaynie

It is not only IE problem, the same thing happens in Opera.

It’s a freaking FAIL on your part to not setup mime type properly for BINARY file. Torrent is octet-stream, not text/html. Don’t blame browser for your fault – it’s doing what YOU’ve told it to do. Lame.

      Are you suggesting adding
      AddType application/octet-stream .torrent
      to the .htaccess file?

      • Baka-kun

        Are you suggesting adding
        AddType application/octet-stream .torrent
        to the .htaccess file?

Either that or application/x-bittorrent. doesn’t matter. Just don’t tell browser it’s an html text (ie web page to show). BTW IE, Opera, Konqueror and many others are right here to try to show a page.

    • Hiroto

whelp, for one, the mime type of a .torrent is application/x-bittorrent
secondly, the web server’s mime_mod module seems to have been busted.
thirdly, we didn’t tell it to do anything.
      lastly, a .torrent isn’t a binary file.

      • Baka-kun

        Well,

        | the mime type of a .torrent is application/x-bittorrent

The general binary file (octet-stream) will do.

        | we didn’t tell it to do anything

But you did! What “Content-Type: text/html” do is “Hey, user-agent, it’s an html text file that is a web page, just render and show it to the user”.

        | a .torrent isn’t a binary file

        It is a binary file.

      • loomy

that is the problem here, isn’t it? you didn’t it to do anything.

cant you simply change the function, that is responsible for the “add media”-button (or whatever you use) to simply change the links to torrent files, like it’s mentioned here:

        http://pastebin.com/Cxu71ckM

i dunno how much you can change such things in wordpress but that should solve the problem, no?

        • Hiroto

that isn’t a fix, loomy, that’s an inconvenience :p the actual problem was that we installed a different version of our webserver when we moved from a quad core server to an i7, which wasn’t configured properly for content delivery. it should have been fixed now, though.

  • Terajin

I’ve been finding the same problem and I use Opera. At the moment I’m simply copying the link and using “[Torrent Software] > File > Open Torrent from URL…”

Just letting you know that it’s not a unique problem to IE although I guess not that many people use Opera.

  • Index

lucky…. my Safari doesn’t screw with me XD

  • BakaAiki

To all malaysian that wanna passby our own country’s block~
Try change ur DNS IP to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

They are getting what they deserve.

A good step forward would be a big ass banner on the top of the page saying STOP USING INTERNET EXPLORER .

Better yet , don’t allow people on the site who use IE.Plainly redirect the site to the chrome or firefox download page.

  • Die IE Die!

I certainly would be all for it, Etoooo!
Any idea on how to put such “Don’t allow IE” stuff on an ordinary WordPress blog?

  • Anonymous Coward

How about instead of complaining and trying to force people to use specific browsers you just code the link to a default standard so ALL browsers can use it properly?

Even running under linux I find this problem prevalent as other people have when using Opera (Which is probably one of the most standards-compliant browsers out there), and to avoid redundancy I’ll just leave it at that.
