Watched this because of UTW’s delay and the quick release on Doki’s part.
I have to say I’m impressed. No translation errors or awkward phrasing. Assuming this isn’t a fluke, Doki get a bad press without justification.
I never heard of Doki having a bad press man, where are you taking it from?

The subtitle when Menma’s mother speaks is hilariously wrong.
The line “…your friends…” makes it seem as if she’s referring to Menma, which makes the “Onee-chan…” part hilarious.
The actual Japanese line makes no reference of “…your friends…”, instead she says “Jin-tan and his friends”. Hence, the line’s context changes completely and we find out Jintan and Menma are cousins.
Uh…she *is* referring to Menma. She refers to Menma as oneechan because she was the big sister of the family, in the same way that Japanese parents will sometimes refer to each other as otousan and okaasan. Check the first episode. There’s a whole exchange between the family where Menma is referred to as oneechan. Personally I would have gone with just ‘Menma’ to avoid confusion, but I jumped in as translator halfway through the series, and consistency wins the day.
Also, the ‘your friends’ change was made by the timer because it was less to read than ‘Jinta-kun and the others’ for a line that was going to be on screen for a relatively short time. That being said, I agreed with it completely, and don’t see how it really changes the meaning substantially.
