Doki’s Visual Novel Department! Recruiting TLs for Tomoyo After

Tomoyo After

One of my ambitions is to expand from fansubbing Anime, and make a move into the world of Visual Novels. And after recent developments, this is no longer a dream, but a possibility.

The first project we will be working on is Tomoyo After. Doki has many translators, but all are involved in translating anime.

I am seeking one (or more) translator(s) dedicated specifically to translating Tomoyo After. You will be provided with the Japanese text to translate from. You can email me if you are interested, or go on our IRC channel and find me or Cruxis (Supreme Receptionist of the Doki VN Department).

Cruxis edit: I am also looking for a person who completed this Visual Novel and can provide me some necessary resources. Find me in #doki.

Later I will be recruiting a number of “testers” to play the patched game, for debugging purposes.

There will be no “public” release until the entire project is complete.

Edit: A small update about how we will deal with the release, which shouldn’t be too far away. The only thing we will release officially, ie, via this blog, is the patch itself. We will NOT be releasing the actual game (iso or otherwise), for obvious reasons. You will have to find a copy of the game yourself. If you idle on #doki, I am sure someone will be able to help you.

will this be a full download of the game you guys provide? or will we need to obtain the full game and download a patch that you provide?

    • Antonio

I have played it with the bakatsuki patch and half or so of the game was already translated so i am really waiting for you!!!

  • IZEROII

I really wish I could help you guys out from the “work” standpoint but I am pretty excited about this expansion.

Also the above comment brings about a good question? Full game dl or just English patch?

  • Luciencren

Cool news. I’ve only been self studying since late last year or so, so I’d probably be worthless. Maybe in the future :p

  • Mango

Does the visual novel, have the same story with the OVA edition?

  • Oh, wow! Believe me, I’m excited about hearing this. Not solely from the angle that many exciting games never get localized, but to hear this from a fansubbing group (the same idea had occurred to me a long time ago, too!) 😉

I read Insani’s guide from forever ago, which only goes so far. :3 I know it’s a long shot, but I’d love to hear the stories that went into making this happen. 🙂

Does the visual novel, have the same story with the OVA edition?

No it continues AFTER the OVA and it’s actually a eroge.

    Still, WANNA HAVE, WANNA HAVE!!!

  • I didn’t think it was possible to love someone until I met you, Doki Fansubs. I… I don’t know what to say. Thank you.

  • stickmanoncrack

Are you guys doing the version with adult content? If so, will you be making any attempts at uncensoring?

AH! Finally someone recognized that this hasn’t been getting done. This has been in translation hell for years! I loved Clannad (VN) and although this is kind of an Eroge, I know Key put their heart and soul into the story. Thank you thank you thank you!

  • I freaking love you Doki! I’ve been waiting for this to get translated forever, almost started reading the baka tsuki scripts awaiting this. You’ve become pretty damn awesome lately Doki, I look forward to the release.

  • shani

you guys are simply becoming a group of people worthy of admiration!

  • Matthew

HELL YEAH! I love you guys.. Baka-Tsuki dropped it.. But they’ve translated quite a bit.. Just so you guys know 🙂

  • This is a great idea guys.

The South Africa community is HUNGRY, feed us! >;p

We at SZA don’t have a proper translator, however we’ve got a couple of lads who are more than willing to make coffee, bring pizza and possibly strippers to help out in anyway we can.

The Doki fan base supports you 100% !! Bring it on!

    >All that is left is the translation of the script.
I’m sure that you’ve realised already, but that also happens to be the hard(est) part.

    >Air’s translation has not been completed. We will probably do that after Tomoyo After.
I’m not sure if your anime translators would be willing to make such large commitments, assuming they follow through with this project.

    >Taking in someone else’s translations would also need us to check out their work, style and consistency
The editor will have to check through your own work anyway. Unless the existing translation is garbage, TLCing will take much less time than translating from scratch. This isn’t anime. Oversubbing takes more than a just few hours worth of work.

    >as well as adapting to their fonts and such.
    You’re an idiot.

    • Sir who calls me an idiot, you forget the graphics used in this anime, which, yes, are replaced and use fonts.

      Hence, fonts.

      You sir, are an idiot.

Also we’re not taking their scripts, since they’re still said to be active, so that would be work stealing. Besides, you don’t need to have ours, take theirs?

  • Insemination

There appears to be some sort of miscommunication here. Menu editing is not rocket science, and should be a moot point when considering whether or not to form a collaboration- which happens to be a much more feasible option.
If you insist on approaching this project with an anime episode-mentality, then you are most welcome to do so and exhaust your efforts on redundant work.

    >Besides, you don’t need to have ours, take theirs?
You might want to consider changing this line to something that’s not so overused.

    • Hey I honestly don’t really care. I am very impressed how you were able to determine our anime-mentality if you don’t see our work behind the blog.

But since you’re oh so well informed about translation works, you should definitely just create the collaboration with them yourself.

And I am not overusing that line, in fact I expect you to eventually get our release anyway, no matter how much you try to troll.
