Or you can use the DivX h264 decoder. It performs as well as CoreAVC and is free. The only downside is it can’t do GPU-powered decoding on ATI graphics cards, so if you have an NVidia-based card then you might want to do CoreAVC.
Actually, I’d recommend everyone try out the newest BETA version of CCCP. I tried it and I fixed my problems with 1080p playback for the most part. I don’t know what exactly is updated but I have a feeling the version of VSFilter included in it is the main difference. Because from what I can tell that’s what kept 1080p from playing back smoothly for me before: the processing required for subtitle display and the way the load was being balanced (or not in this case) in the current stable release of CCCP.

@ Oddone: Please update to the latest ATi Catalyst 10.4 driver which supports higher H.264 profiles and higher reframes at higher resolutions + use the newest DiVX 8 Plus h.264 encoder (free version) which can also make use of dxva acceleration, i.e. better than CoreAVC (not free) which still has to implement dxva into its h.264 only encoder. if you want smooth playback, use CoreAVC. it’s not free, but it lets me play this 100% smooth on a 2.2ghz dual core w/ 2GB RAM.

@Kanon, regardless of your net torrenting should be the same/faster than a DDL. That is if your ISP isn’t throttling torrents.
