Clannad (Blu Ray)

Clannad (BD)

Update: The BDMV has been put on torrent, and I am downloading right now. It will take a week or so, as it is 173 GBs lol.

Like Kanon, I will release Clannad in 3 sizes: 1080p, 720p and 480p. The plan is:
1080p: h264 + FLAC 5.1 (~1 GB)
720p: h264 + AAC 5.1 (~400 MB)
480p: XviD + MP3 2.0 (~300 MB)

Ordered chapters: None. (Download Coalgirls if you want OC)
Softsubbed karaoke. (Identical to Kanon karaoke)

nighttraveler – actually delays with OC can be because the encoder/group has done it wrong. i have seen ones where they have done OC OP/ED and did them different settings(V and A) and that did cause a small pause in transition.

then again you think ac3 is simply shit so i dont know why i am bothering to explain to someone who obviously has never been part of the a/v community.

meeehhh….. don’t have any comment on OC and his friends….

btw….FLAC is fine to….maybe in the next year…hardware’s price will come down….T_T

    for now….just enjoy anime in my notebook….with onboard soundcard….and 10$ headphones…..

Please don’t sully Clannad by doing hardsubbed Karaoke for any of the releases. You can appease the flashy karaoke lovers by releasing a separate hardsubbed OP/ED, but please please please don’t hardsub the main show files.

Suggestion for sound for 720p: 5.1ch AAC. 720p is still high definition, so it _should_ have the full original surround sound track, save the 2.0 channel sound for the 480p version.

480p… people really need to step out of the dark ages. If your computer can’t play a 720p release, then it’s long past time to upgrade. None of my four computers have problems with 720p video, the oldest one is 7 years old now. My 6 year old laptop can play both 720p and 1080p fine, and my newest rig can playback and encode multiple 1080p video streams at the same time.

wha! I’m looking forward for this… I think harsubbed karaoke is the best …. It’s all about the karaoke effect!

  • Perfect Chaos

CSJ, the 480 release is mainly for those that want to play it on their DVD players, etc., so it’s not just a matter of them having an old computer.
Also, I don’t mind too much on what’s done regarding the karaoke in the episodes, but hardsubbing the separate OP/ED is stupid. The separate OP/ED is there because it’s TEXTLESS — no credits and stuff; so it’ll be dumb to add mandatory text to something that’s there because it features the beautiful animation free from any text…

  • morph

I agree with you xopi – fancy hardsubbed karaoke is the best, but must be nice.

  • infinitybelt

Yes! I would love to see BEAUTIFUL karaoke….whether its hard-subbed or soft does not matter, I want Clannad Blu-Ray to be the BEST! Oh and definitely FLAC….do it big Doki ^^

  • John

    Softsub karaoke vote here.

The argument for clean OP/ED and those of us who don’t want to have unnecessary fancy karaoke seems kind of backwards to me. The same could be said to people who love fancy karaoke: Have someone use the clean OP/ED, slap on some hardsubbed fancy effects, release it, and view it to your hearts content.

I consider simple “the best”, or rather I prefer no karaoke at all and to just watch and enjoy the OP/ED without any distractions where possible. Karaoke is so subjective from person to person on quality. Even tasteful karaoke is often distracting from an already beautiful OP/ED. I’m certain many users out there appreciate the ability to turn off karaoke who don’t like it.

That said, the opinions for this seem pretty split, so it’ll be interesting to see what decision is made. I felt that the Kanon release was excellent, and don’t feel anything should/would be done differently when handling Clannad.

Regardless, appreciate the work on Kanon, and look forward to your work with Clannad!

    Perfect Chaos:

I never said to hardsub the clean OP/ED, I said to release _a_ separate hardsubbed OP/ED, which can be easily done by splitting a regular OP and ED from one of the episodes.

  • Philip

you guys can always do ordered chapters with soft subbed and hard subbed karaoke for the op and ed to satisfy the wants and needs for the people. But then again, that would be more work for you.

  • Cyc

Wow I wanted to pop a bag of popcorn and watch this comment thread unfold. Even the fag known as commander`A put in his …I would say two cents…but more like half a sense… 😛 I am so hateful…
On the topic at hand, Holo I would say good call on the AAC 5.1 for 720p. If you look at the various versions you would be offering, I think that is the “comparable” ratio of quality to file-size.
Now one thing you DIDN’T specify was the bitrate. Since you are going with the 5.1 I would recommend at least 320 kbit/s which should be transparent and still provide decent compression vs FLAC.

  • Fencedude

    Fuck Karaoke, seriously.

Just have a translation of the song, we don’t need flashy bouncy lights so we can sing along like we’re five. And fucking hardsubs are right out, what do you think this is, 2004?

If you must do Karaoke, a simple color change, done with soft subs is fine. Anything else is useless bullshit.

  • Soukyuu

    > Screwball: “Get Kanon episode 10 or 24 from Coalgirls. The audio is supposed to segue into the ED but not with ordered chapters. [..]There is also the matter of hitting exactly the right spot when returning to the main file. With some it gets the last bit of what came before the OP or ED.”

@Part1: one more reason to not take coalgirls’ version for me. They should have left the ED in those eps as part of the main file, since it can’t be helped. But those are exceptions, usually you don’t have to worry about that. I can’t remember CLANNAD having any episode with ending music starting before ending animation.

@part2: this is yet another example of sloppy work. So far, the OC versions i saw, from thora for example, were flawless when it came to transition between chapters. And i’m sure Doki wouldn’t release a sloppy version.

In the end i might as well just go and rip my own version, i guess.

  • IceCube

OMG I cant wait! I am so getting the 1080p version from you guys! 😀

  • OoP

*Tasteful* hard-subbed (i.e. SS-Eclipse) enhances the feel of a show in a way that hardsubbed (*cough* ghetto *cough*) softsubbed fails to do, in my opinion. It gives a show a professional polish that the real “professional” (FUNimation/Crappyroll) anime outlets fail to deliver.

And I would say that karaoke bars are proof some people want to be able to sing along.

  • Master Shadow

Holo, are you able to throw up a poll on the main page? It might be more productive than having to sift through comments from people like Fencedude acting like 12 year olds who just learned their first swear word.

  • Andrew

When will this be released Anyone know?

  • TheWingless

    @Andrew:
I’ll just copy+paste my guess I put on Coalgirl’s website:
From what I had seen before, Coalgirls usually would have a status for each episode, like Downloading/Encoding/Subbing/Uploading, and Coalgirls was still releasing other projects up till yesterday(Two days ago now, they said they would freeze all releases as it was their priority when they find the ISOs)? I think so I’m guessing they do not have the disks yet. The good news is that as of yesterday, I’ve been seeing RAWs of CLANNAD appear on TT, meaning the disks should probably appear soon somewhere. I don’t know about all that PD(Perfect Dark) stuff so you’d have to check if that for the disks yourself, since I’m guessing that’s where some people get their ISOs/stuff from Japan. Basically, it should be very soon since there are at least RAWs, though since Coalgirls didn’t put everything on freeze, I’m guessing they haven’t found any isos.

  • Andrew

So Basically There going to be working on it pretty soon then? Doki? or just corlgirls ?

  • Wish

    what are ordered chapters :s

  • CherryHawk

I was about to watch the original SS-eclipse TV release, but I think I’ll wait for this. Thank you so much for picking it up : )

  • SakiFan

i wish Haruhi BDs will be out after CL… ^^

  • Master Shadow

@ Wish, I’m not 100% but I believe ordered chapters are where you can hit the next button and it skips to a set point in the show. For example the OP starts and you don’t want to wach it so you hit next and skip to the end of the OP.

But again, I’m not 100% and could be way off.

  • SakiFan

@Master Shadow: that’s just chapters. ordered chapters when OP and ED are just single files but if you start watching any episode OP and ED will be placed where they are needed.

    sorry my english xD

  • Sorry ,Doki, but I already finished getting CLANNAD from Coalgirls & SS-Eclipse. But, I’m taking Kanon from you, though, it’s a bit big(300mb per episode???), it is worth it right? I mean, I have never seen CLANNAD or KANON before, not even heard of it. It’s 2010, I’m a bit late being an otaku now, but, I’ve finished season 1, and it’s not bad, not enough to make me cry though…

ps: now seeding the DVD of CLANNAD from Coalgirls.

Also, is the Xvid version avi softsubbed or hardsubbed? I’m guessing hardsubbed right?
Thanks a million, peace be with you…

This is the Blu Ray version of Clannad. You got the DVD version from CGi.
