Clannad (Blu Ray)

Clannad (BD)

Update: The BDMV has been put on torrent, and I am downloading right now. It will take a week or so, as it is 173 GBs lol.

Like Kanon, I will release Clannad in 3 sizes: 1080p, 720p and 480p. The plan is:
1080p: h264 + FLAC 5.1 (~1 GB)
720p: h264 + AAC 5.1 (~400 MB)
480p: XviD + MP3 2.0 (~300 MB)

Ordered chapters: None. (Download Coalgirls if you want OC)
Softsubbed karaoke. (Identical to Kanon karaoke)

AAC is ok for 720p I think. AFAIK the loss isn’t that bad, but I have pretty much no experience in encoding :p

And yeah, you can find 1TB hds for 504 nowdays, it’s ridiculous. Just buy more hard drives.

  • thats cool man will you be makeing a bach torent

  • Invisiblemoose

    SOFTSUBBED KARAOKE PLEASE.

    And thanks!!!

  • eng

Since the 720p video is already “reduced” quality why go with a lossless audio codec?

Another vote for using AAC audio.

  • base

is aac format compatible with the ipad? if it was that would be fun to watch this on an ipad.

  • u

harsubbed kara is the way to go

  • Perfect Chaos

@base: Considering iTunes’ default save format is AAC for audio files, I’m pretty sure the iPad can read AAC.

  • RoadTrip

I vote the easier softsub and Flac on the 1080. Space is not an issue, as I just bought 2 more 1.5Tb drives at $80 each last week.

  • Tarr

It would be really nice if you could do 720p in Multichannel-AAC. The quality loss is not that bad with AAC and for the enthusiasts there is always 1080p+FLAC.

  • Demandred

I agree with RoadTrip, softsub and FLAC on the 1080, and do whatever you like with the 720 and 480.

  • monsieurkirby

I’ll be looking forward to the 1080p version.

Please, no hardsubs. Simple kara is fine. I probably wouldn’t mind pretty, but in any case, I still want softsubs.

And, of course, thanks for your hard work.

I’d say stick with what you did for Kanon.

I don’t want hardsubbed karaoke on the OP/ED, the simple treatment given to Kanon was nice and being able to remove it if desired is, too.

I’d say no to FLAC on 720P. Just not worth the extreme space usage. If you’re going to change to AAC for audio I hope it will be a higher bitrate than most subbers use for regular releases.

You should just do hard subbed karaoke. The reason is this, softsubbed karaoke in 1080p takes heavy cpu usage, and the reason why people like softsubbed karaoke in the first place is for options of turning it off and on, so that they can view the video without any distractions (i.e. raw). But to solve this is to just give us the NCED and NCOP without karaoke or with softsubbed so that the viewers can view the op and ed. You will satisfy both the softsubbed and hardsubbed karaoke fans.

  • IMO hardsub karaoke and then also you provide with separate file of clean version of OP/ED.
Please don’t use ordered chapter like Chihiro on most of their release. I don’t use Windows and ordered chapter is really disturbing in my computer.
Oh I hope 1080p version is not exceed 1 GB per episode. Around 800 ~ 900 MB is just OK. I’m planning to get 1080p version.

  • Holo

I don’t plan on using ordered chapters. Coalgirls will prolly do that, people who like OC can always download hers.

Episodes will probably average ~1 GB, so some eps might exceed it. Total filesize should be 24 GB though.

  • Zeni

    Yes yes yes!!!
This makes me so happy! 1080p for me, and I agree with whoever said they liked the ss-eclipse hardsubs for the karaoke, but as long as it looks good I’ll be satisfied!
Can’t wait! When do you think you’ll have this all done??

  • Mr.Anderson

I don’t really care about what you do with the 720p version, but I do know there’s a rather large part that take those instead of the 1080p to save CPU and space. Ultimately it’s up to you of course.

I agree with DolphinBoy, but I just love FLAC for what it is. Lossless, I basically hate any lossy encoding, though I can’t always escape it sadly.

Personally, CPU usage isn’t really an issue, though on my laptop the karaoke of Kanon was messed up (i.e. the lyrics would start half done already and just stay there till the new line arrive), but my Gaming Rig and my back up PC with an already old CPU played it all fine.

  • waterfall

Yeah, I prefer softsubbed karaoke to hardsubbed. The karaoke you’re doing for Kanon is great.

  • bugmenot

Philip, if the people care about CPU usage they shouldn’t download 1080p in the first place. I think using hardsubbed kara for 720p is the way to go, along with AAC. But 1080p can go extreme: fully softsubbed with pretty karaoke, FLAC and huge filesizes. One can always transcode OP/ED and audio or remux them from 720p release. Besides, if you use DXVA/VDPAU for decoding and libass for kara instead of slow vsfilter it should heavily reduce CPU usage.

  • Holo

Pretty kara cannot be softsubbed. Even my i7 920 OCed to 4 GHz cannot play sparkly karaoke for example. You’d need a NASA computer to do that.

  • Fred

Watched Eclipse’s [SS-Eclipse], and it’s the superiour version out there, as you’ve said.

I don’t really know difference between soft- and hardsubs, but a karaoke similar to that [SS-Eclipse], used in ~After Story~ would be awesome.

  • Oddone

I did not read through the comments left before me, but as for the karaoke, I actually prefer the cool looking, hardsubbed version.

  • u

people with superior machines can have a 1080p softsubbed whilst the 720p is hardsubbed or just hardsubbed with NCED/COP softsubbed as extras

  • Perfect Chaos

I don’t think it’s a matter of CPU processing that should affect the decision to softsub or hardsub it. IMO, it should be the debate of prettier looking karaoke vs. the ability to turn it off that affects the decision (especially for 1080p when processing doesn’t matter either way). I, myself, prefer a hybrid that I mentioned earlier, but that’s just me.
