Clannad (Blu Ray)

Clannad (BD)

Update: The BDMV has been put on torrent, and I am downloading right now. It will take a week or so, as it is 173 GBs lol.

Like Kanon, I will release Clannad in 3 sizes: 1080p, 720p and 480p. The plan is:
1080p: h264 + FLAC 5.1 (~1 GB)
720p: h264 + AAC 5.1 (~400 MB)
480p: XviD + MP3 2.0 (~300 MB)

Ordered chapters: None. (Download Coalgirls if you want OC)
Softsubbed karaoke. (Identical to Kanon karaoke)

soft or hard karaoke…doesnt matter. but i prefer AAC for 720p. FLAC is perfect for 1080, it’s too good for 720. nd why r u using Xvid in 480p? it’s a shitty codec, increases the size unnecessarily. can’t u use h264 here too? besides mkv is much better than avi.

  • wman

I prefer fully softsubs. So don’t do hardsub kara.

  • bugmenot

    > Even my i7 920 OCed to 4 GHz cannot play sparkly karaoke for example.

You can include several scripts. One with simple kara (default) and one with beautiful effects for benchmark/transcode/whatever.

  • wman

The solution proposed by Perfect Chaos is good too. Hardsubbed kanji, romaji and softsubbed translation.

  • CherryHawk

Ah this is great, thank you so much for doing this : )

I’m don’t know much about subbing, so sorry for noob-question.

When you’re using [SS-Eclipse]’s subs/script, is that just the subbing, or is it subbing + editing (like english signs eyc. in the video), so it’s identical to thems except karaoke?

And what’s the point of turning karaoke off?
Take the pretty karaoke as Eclipse uses (hardsub?)

But the sub itself should be smooth and good.

  • thewizardninja

I suggest you use AAC for the 720p release but I don’t particularly care because I’ll be getting the 1080p one anyway ^^

    @Fred

I will extract everything that is softsubbed from SS-Eclipse’s release. So, that means the subs and any softsubbed signs. The karaoke is hardsubbed, so I can’t get that. If there are any signs which are hardsubbed then I also cannot get those. I will do my own typesetting if necessary.

Some people prefer their video totally untouched. Hardcoding the Karaoke on would mean that the video has been altered.

  • *Facepalm*

Prettier, hardsubbed karaoke looks better imo. People who can’t stand want unaltered video can get that elsewhere and just remux with your subs.

  • Chaosrains

    Tough choice on the karaoke…

Though I think if I wanted untouched video at all, I’d just buy the original Blu-Rays, so meh.

I’d say since it’s Clannad, it deserves an extravagant, albeit hardsubbed, karaoke.

  • Holo

The entire boxset of Kanon and Clannad costs something like $500 each.

If you got that kinda cash floating around, donate some to me kkthx.

  • o

just throw in an NCOP/ED softsubbed as separate file there they can turn on/off the sub

  • Yui

Hardsubbed karaoke would be a better choice! (:
But it’s all up to you guys in the end.

  • Yumemi

Softsubbed karaoke (at least for the 1080p version)!

I hate hardsubs and I don’t understand what people like about special effects or funny fonts in karaoke. Harsubbing is just wrong.

  • wlfy

    softsubbed please…
    I don’t want messed up video…
those who want hardsubbed things get the 480p xvid ver.

  • Glurak

What about ordered chapters? With them, it is even possible to choose between hardsubbed, softsubbed and karaoke-less op/ed. I will go for softsubbed simple karaoke. Also, it lowers harddrive usage (especially with 1080p version)
Oh and 720p should have AAC/AC3 audio imho.

  • Meatrose

Since I hate karaoke with a passion I would prefer softsubbed OPs and EDs. I think softsubbed english + romaji (without any kind of karaoke effect) is fine, but sometimes I take the time to edit the romaji out as well. 😛

  • Miyoharu

Clean-looking minimal softsubbed karaoke is the best choice imho.
We’re talking about anime not music videos or stuff like that, what do we need sparkling effects for?

  • rmps

fuck everything, use ogg/liked idea about ordered/linked chapters/

  • AvidElite

I agree that the 720p should use AAC audio. Also, I vote for simple softsubs for the OP/ED.

  • NightGaunt

how bout we made a poll? this ways we could just follow the majority….. though if for me, i would prefer for the 720p to be FLAC + soft-subbed karaoke (or not partial soft-subbed) + ordered chapter. for the karaoke maybe putting in a simple style and also the fancy one as the default

  • NightGaunt

on second thought, i would prefer if you make the karaoke like Kanon.

  • Shiretoko

@Hologfx: Usually, BD media have either AC3 or DTS audio, both of them are lossy codecs. Why do you re-encode? and to a lossless format too?
Why not copy the audio stream as-is? this is done by many BD ripping groups, and it will also be much smaller than FLAC and quality is perfect (because it is the original audio file).

  • Dongs

I don’t really give a shit about the specifics, I just want Clannad in 1080p. Hell yes.

  • TheWingless

    @Shiretoko:
I’m pretty sure that the Clannad box comes in 5.1 PCM. And that’s lossless is it not? FLAC is totally better in that regard with it’s compression ratio.

Well… IT DOES come in 5.1 DTS as well, but why use lossy and not lossless? I know there are people who don’t care about sound quality and even I don’t know if I have the ears and sound equipment to enjoy it, but at least with lossless, you can convert it to lossy, but never the other way around.
