Recruiting editors v6

Well, only a fraction of editors remain from the last batch of editors I recruited (which was a while ago).

QC: Your job is to check the script for spelling, grammar, punctuation and syntax. Your attention to detail should be second to none. I don’t expect perfection, but I do expect near perfection.

Edit: Your job is to take a translated script and change the awkward/literal English into smooth, natural English. The level of your English should be akin to that of a native speaker, preferably better than my English. (English is my second language.)
Your attention to detail should also be very good.

After sending me an email (holo@doki.co), join #doki-recruits@irc.rizon.net. You will be given a QC test, and if you pass, an edit test.

In your email, state your timezone and any info you feel supports your application. Previous experience in fansubbing is not a requirement, but willingness to learn and a level of dedication is.

Edit: Recruitment closed, no more emails please!

Elfen Lied (BD) - 01

Elfen Lied (BD) – 01

Elfen Lied holds a special place in my heart, because it was the first anime that I watched 10 years ago. Given that I am not satisfied with the existing releases of this show , it was only a matter of time until I did it. Seeing as our BD releases are kind of slow these days, it’s about time I started something!

I plan to release ep by ep in the following days/weeks.

If you haven’t seen this before, I highly recommend it. If you have, watch it again!

Happy 5th Birthday, Doki!

Another year passes by… Now we’re 5 years old! It’s quite a feat really, considering how many groups I have seen form and disappear during these past 5 years. You could probably count on one hand the number of groups older than us and still actively releasing stuff regularly.

Personally, I am quite busy with my PhD (1 more year to go), so I don’t have much time to do stuff on here anymore. So a big thanks must be given to the Project Leaders of Doki, who keep the releases coming.

Despite efforts to consign us to history by certain people in the fansub scene, you guys haven’t forgotten about us, and your support keeps us going day after day.

So a big thanks to all you fans out there! May this coming year be as successful and fruitful as the past five!

PS: Pic related.

Seedboxes!

Sadly, donations are no longer steady enough to be relied on. (It’s not fair on iMdai to keep bankrolling us!) Because of this, I have been thinking about alternative methods of providing a steady stream of income for Doki’s operations.
One such method could be to sell seedboxes. I have received some positive feedback from this idea, so I will proceed with it, and see how it goes.

For a limited time (a week or two), I will provide free seedboxes for people to try out and test. These seedboxes are on a 100Mbps connection and have unlimited monthly bandwith. If you are interested in buying a seedbox from us in the future to support us, here’s a good opportunity to test them out for free!

Eventually, I will charge something reasonable, such as $10 a month for 200 GB, for example. But I’ll think about that later.

You can use the seedbox to download/seed anything you like, anime/BakaBT or otherwise. Obviously, the only rule is no CP of any kind.

Regarding the price that I will charge in the future: despite being cheap, I know that it’s probably not the cheapest out there. You can probably find cheaper seedbox providers. However, bear in mind that it’s not my goal to provide the cheapest seedboxes possible. I want the people who support Doki to get something back in return.

There are also benefits to getting a seedbox from us (aside from helping us out)! If you want to help us seed a show, or just want a Doki show for yourself, you can request for that show to be transferred directly into your seedbox from one of the Doki servers. I may think of other perks in the future. Also, I am here to provide support, answer any questions, which probably beats support from seedbox providers from elsewhere!

For those people who have no idea how to use a seedbox, I have written a detailed tutorial which will help them.

To get a free seedbox, all you have to do is send me an email (holo@doki.co) and I will set it up for you ASAP. I only have around 12 right now, so if this gets more popular than I expect, you’ll have to wait a day or so before I can get more.

Feedback on the seedboxes are welcome!

Update: 30+ seedboxes have been given out! There’s a bit of a waiting list, but keep the requests coming!

Recruiting a translator

I’d like to recruit another translator to translate an airing show next season. You will get closed captions (Japanese subtitles) to work with!

Experience in fansubbing not required, but proficiency in Japanese is.

Please email me at holo@doki.co if you are interested and then come to #doki-recruits@irc.rizon.net.

Recruiting Timers v4

Update: Thanks to those who have applied. No more applications, thanks!

It’s been 2 years since I last did a recruitment/training campaign of new timers, and now the number of active timers have fallen.

So if you are thinking of getting into fansubbing, but have no real experience, here is a good opportunity.

If you would like to learn how to time, you should satisfy the following conditions.

  • A lot of patience. Timing can be very monotonous and tedious.
  • Speak coherent English. If we can’t communicate with you properly, we can’t teach you.
  • Ability to take initiative. If you have nothing to do, ask me for something to work on. Don’t just sit there waiting.
  • Have a lot of free time. If you are only available for two days a week, this gig is not suitable for you. While I don’t expect you to be online 24/7, I would expect you to be around for a couple of hours at least 4 or 5 days a week.
  • Able to idle on IRC when you are online. If you can idle 24/7, then all the better.
  • Be talkative on IRC! Don’t just idle there and not say anything. We’re all friendly and love to chat.

No experience required. You will be taught everything. I am looking for people all over the world.

Please email me with a little info about yourself, (including your timezone and motivation for joining), then join #doki-recruits if you are interested. If you don’t know how to use IRC, use this, and someone will teach you to get a proper IRC client like chatzilla or mirc later.
