The gatling gun and telephone + switchboard operator are actually around the same time period.
But this is anime logic so real world logic doesnt apply.

That chat lol. As for having technologies from different time periods in the same show and setting, that doesn’t really matter in an anime that takes place in an alternative reality, does it? Things might have developed differently there. It’s also a pretty common thing in anime anyway.
I’m honestly not a big fan of it. I’d rather they kept with the steam revolution. I was okay with the like couple shot rifles and whatnot, but once we hit motorcycles, mortars, Gatling guns, and switchboard telephone systems, I was like.. No, stop! Let’s keep this to an older time frame than that! =|
Well, I can see where you’re coming from. I don’t really like it when an anime I like seemingly makes sudden drastic jumps in technology level either. If it’s there it should be obvious from the start.

Has it ever been stated what time frame the setting is supposed to be?
I assumed it was actually closer to post-apocalyptic than set in the past.. I mean, they know about viruses and that the kabaneri condition is caused by one that has been identified >_> Pretty sure that is a more recent discovery than steam engines..
