I’ve watched and read both(and am reading the Suzuka spinoff), so I can try to explain. The main character of Suzuka is from a rural part Hiroshima and moves into an apartment complex in Tokyo owned by his aunt. KNIM starts out in rural Hiroshima, and the MC ends up moving to the same apartments at some point. KNIM also begins shortly after the end of Suzuka, and characters from Suzuka make cameos occasionally. They never have more than a line or two, so it isn’t vital to the story, but it adds to the experience.
I’m almost never the type of person to say that people need to read the manga first, but it is true with this one. The KNIM anime tries to compress around 150 manga chapters into 12 episodes, and tells the story out of order. It is sort of unsatisfying on its own, but better if you know the story.
