The hell it is. Work fine for me.

  • Rokudaime

Well, the last time I tried HEVC, I was unable to play it, so I’m a little sad to see 10bit go…But I guess I’ll just have to upgrade (or switch out/replace) my codecs…

    • Just updating Klite will do the trick.

      • Rokudaime

I’m a little unsure now if I should go with K-Lite or KCP. I keep hearing recommendations for both, so it’s hard to choose.

Also, while I’m sure upgrading to newer codec packs will make all these newer releases work like they should, I’m worried that it will in return also make it so that some of the older anime releases that I have will no longer work properly…After all, that’s the main reason I’ve stuck to my old 11-11-11 CCCP release for so long, because the last time I tried upgrading, I was no longer able to play Doki’s “Angel Beats! (2010) [Doki][1920×1080 Hi10P BD FLAC]” release properly anymore (so I downgraded again)…

I hate tinkering with settings in codec packs and media players and such. I just want to download and install a pack, and then I want it to work with as large a spectrum of anime fansub releases as possible, both old and new, and from many different groups. Because while I watch new anime, I also still watch old anime, after all.

I recommend K-Lite. Just tested Angel Beats ep1 (1080p) and it worked fine.

          1) Uninstall whatever you have now.
          2) Reboot
          3) Install K-Lite

        • I am using CCCP with standard settings and never had playback problems with animes. (My MAL says that I watched 844 animes so far, so you also should be fine <.< …)

K-Lite same as CCCP both work fine with the most releases. They fixed alot compared to a few years back when changing codecs pretty much always broke your system. Updating to the newest build whenever it comes out wont give you problems anymore as it did back in the days 😀

  • FlameHaze

Works fine on the latest cccp(07/13/2014) for me.

Also gonna go into wrist slitting mode if no one announces nanoha vivid soon.

  • Hmm, quality seems a bit disappointing to me, especially since I’m thinking that while watching it downscaled to 720p on a crappy laptop monitor… Kinda different artifacts from what I’m used to seeing, probably because HEVC is different, but I will have to wait until I get home on Tuesday to cross-check it with another source + decoder.

I’m surprised how well my cheap 3 year old laptop handled it though, with only minor hiccups during the complicated scenes in the OP with the 1080p encode. Makes me really wonder what kind of ancient hardware people who have trouble with 720p h264 Hi10p is using…

  • Eli

    nice, thanks
my 6yo pc and cccp from 27 11 2013 don’t have any problems with playing 720P

  • nixon1

    Thank YOU)! SUPER!!!

    Here’s my story about HEVC:
I tested the ED of KoreZom 720p HEVC, worked with VLC 2.2.0, but CPU usage is too high and sometimes garbage appears in the video (grey blocks. Might be my VLC as I also have other issues -__-)
I tried MPC-HC 1.7.8.123 (using the nightly build + madvr + lav video&audio filters + Haali splitter), audio works but no video. Tinkered with settings, dis/en-abled stuff and filters, nothing worked. Then I got an episode of Zero no Tsukaima and the ED of Testament (everything 720p HEVC) and still no video. Audio works and it even shows the chapter marks of Haali splitter.
For some reason MPC-HC doesn’t even show info on “video”, haali also has no video in its contextmenu.
I was ready to give up and for the fun of it I BLOCKED Haali splitter in the external filters. And suddenly all 3 HEVC videos work. Apparently Haali splitter caused the problem and the internal lav splitter works. This is weird :/
Also, no idea if it’s due to lav splitter or the HEVC files, but whenever I click on the time bar/seek bar thingy it jumps to an earlier or later point. I always use haali and never had that issue…

Maybe someone knowledgeable here can clarify things? Looking through the comments in Doki’s HEVC releases suggests that most people can play HEVC without problems, but then people use different players/codecs/filters.

    • just_someone

      Edit:
      I’m also using xy-VS filter.
I just tried jumping to specific timestamps during regular episodes, which works fine. So the issue is only in OP/EDs where it jumps irregularly (sometimes 10s, 9s, 5s, 2s wtf). It only happens with lav splitter. The good thing is that HEVC isn’t a standard yet 🙂

    • anonymlol

      1: VLC sucks
2: Doing a clean install of K-Lite should solve your problems without having to mess with filters and stuff.
3: It jumps to the nearest keyframe. You can turn this off by unchecking “Fast Seek (on keyframe)” in Options/Tweaks.

      • just_someone

        1. Yep, VLC sucks. I only use it for testing stuff (still great compatibility for a video player)
        2. Yeah, maybe you’re right. Years ago I tried K-Lite and other codecs, but they didn’t work so well. Then I got MPC-HC working perfectly. But every time I try codec packs, stuff doesn’t work. That’s why I prefer using what I have, updating that and messing with settings to get it to work (if possible)^^
        3. Worked, thanks. It appears everything’s good now^^

        • Nii!

Your issue with Haali’s splitter is that it’s been outdated for a long while now, and was simply never updated to support the HEVC identification data that was added to the Matroska specification. The last update to Haali was in June 2013, while the Matroska specs weren’t updated for HEVC until sometime in Q3 or Q4 2013.

  • oem

    HEVC works fine on mpv.
Also I’m liking the changes on the BD
    :^)

  • dumy

    what encoder do you use?

  • yoyo

@just_someone how did you “BLOCKED” Haali splitter? – I have the same problem!

  • tbo

As long as it plays in VLC, I don’t much care which codec you use.

  • lambda

Do you guys have a tag or anything like that where I can see other HEVC releases?

    • anonymlol

If you want to see the release posts, type “hevc” into the search on the right.

You can also go to “Releases –> Tracker” (or anidex.moe, or tokyotosho) and search for “doki hevc” to see the torrents.

  • PaulNamida

Well, I just destroyed CCCP and all filters in my pc and installed KCP, MCP only plays audio and navigation doesn’t show either video stream or subtitles for any of these files (these are the only HEVC files I currently have). No Haali in use. Any help??

  • aweri

I know I’m months late with this, but hopefully somebody sees what’s up.

Are you going to QC the scripts (on top of what you’ve done for existing BD releases so far) for batch? From what I heard, CR’s scripts had some regular derps on top of wooden or confusing lines here and there.

In any case, the “What are doing?” at 2:48 in ep 1 doesn’t seem to be fixed here.
