Quite common these days for some anime shows to not follow their manga as faithfully, if only because they have run out of material and don’t want to wait to conclude the story(And thus make a filler ending) or simply that they want to make their own story/end(With the authors blessing, by giving him/her a bag of yen notes). Either way the viewer loses out.
I would prefer shorter seasons to filler endings to be honest 🙂
Still in the manga she isn’t a player, she’s a human. It’s sort of why I sometimes dislike anime adaptations. And yea, I understand not wanting to wait to finish it, but, they at least knew what the mangaka had planned for Hanako, and it wasn’t the horrific ending she got. Maybe, I should stop reading the manga to shows that I know have a strong possibility of being adapted. kekeke.
