I might watch this show after the batch comes out. I loved the VN, but I am afraid the anime will butcher this work of art.
No, trust me, it doesn’t come close anywhere close to butchering it. I’d even say it very well does justice to the original Visual Novel. The only place I find it falls short is not including Hiiragi Kappei, but that’s also justified given how route specific his interaction is. Other than that, it’s extremely enjoyable and I recommend you start watching the first season right now so you can jump into After Story the moment you finish. (Assuming this release rate continues, anyway.)
Have no fear, Rykuu. However you go about getting Clannad & ~After Story~, they are expertly done and should be viewed in a very positive light. It gets the nod for my favorite anime series with season two (~AS~) being spectacular.
