BOTH for the first episode
Coalgirls are only interested in bloated files. They don’t even hide it and their tendency to put FLAC in 720p…
With Coalgirls, you have to watch which encoder did it. Coalgirls’ encodes are quite reasonable most of the time. Tenshi’s encodes are the ones to watch out for, (CRF13).
I think it’s his/her encodes specifically… I mean who re-encodes an anime ’cause it compresses good?
Coalgirls and their damn super-bloated encodes…I’m still stuck with my 54GB large Kara no Kyoukai folder…

I can’t Index. 😉 There are no good alternatives (which is pretty weird, considering what an incredible anime movie series Kara no Kyoukai is), and I’m not ditching one of the best series I’ve ever watched. The only other decent option is gg, but I don’t like their subs. They use the official ones, but I think TakaJun’s subs are way, way better.
What’s more shocking, besides the Coalgirls file size for that series Rokudaime, is the cost for the Blu Rays lol
I was going to suggest waiting for it to be licensed, but Aniplex USA has it, had someone else had it, another group would of done in HD for you, although it’d be dual audio, you’d almost guarantee the size would be smaller. Pity that.
I was wanting to download the Coalgirls Eureka Seven Ao episodes but didn’t know if they were considered bloated or not. They look big.
I did however download the Ghost Hound episodes they did a while back, which were really really big, but guessing that was because they included the English track, which I was after, that was done by coalgirl(groups leader?) and looked really good on my screen. And they were the only ones who did the show with the dub lol
About 400mb is a good size for 720p…but action packed or slow paced anime can be a bit bigger or smaller. Unless they encoded by bitrate or size, which you should avoid like the plague. Did I mention FLAC is a waste for 99% of the downloaders?

While I don’t doubt that Coalgirls’ encode has some problems (bloating being one of them), you shouldn’t use JPGs for comparisons, as it tends to introduce lots of artifacts. Use PNG instead.
On episode 1, when the poster text is being displayed (the bit with the diagonal message), VLC freezes hard on me. I have the most recent version (2.04). Only a task-manager kill lets me end the program and play something else. Any ideas why it might be going casters-up?

If you’re on Windows, switch to MPC and use xy-vsfilter.
If you’re on linux (and Mac too probably), switch to mplayer2.

@Zdm321 – To be honest, I don’t know how to take a PNG screenshot using MPC.
However, I strongly agree with you about JPEG being heavily compressed, and shouldn’t be used for quality comparisons.
I’m sure there are other alternative ways to take a screenshot other than using the player itself. But I didn’t bother looking for another method.

just make it full screen, press Print Screen, and paste it in MS Paint.
Also save it in PNGs XD

As all of the blurays for this have been released, may I ask what the present status of this show is (i.e. roughly how long before at least vol.2 is ready for release)?
I would also like to know if there will be vol.2 release any soon?
