Since 720p is the best quality for Shana… I think there won’t be any 8bit..
Isn’t needed anyway. 10bit is enough and I’m sure other groups have probably done in the way he’s looking for. Can’t imagine there being enough of a demand for 8bit, he’s the only one asking which kinda proves my point.
Did some other group do an 8bit release in HD (720/1080)? I haven’t seen one. SS-Eclipse and Commie both used 10bit. That’s why I was hoping Doki would offer an 8bit version.
There are quite a few people that like to watch these on a TV using a media streamer. Unfortunately, none of the current boxes are compatible with 10bit videos.
Anyways, thanks Doki for the effort you guys put into these releases. I appreciate it. I just hope you’re not totally giving up on 8bit releases.
there’re some re-encoder group out there, like nemdigger etc. u can search it in Tokyo Tosho. not that i really care about that, though. u have to find it by urself 😉

Personally I was just thinking someone might of done it on Nyaa, but I don’t know as I’m not a huge Shana fan. I know its popular enough to have someone doing it in the method you ask for though.
Before we swapped our tracker, the stats were pretty clear. People prefer 10bit over 8bit when given the choice.
The only people who don’t are those who want to stream it / have decades old pc’s.
I agree, there’s definitely a majority of people that prefer 10bit. Comparing the numbers for ZnT F Vol 1&2, about 2/3 of the people are downloading the 720p Hi10P version. And 1/3 are going for the 720p 8bit version.
It makes sense to give the majority the format they prefer. But there’s still 30%+ that want the 8bit encodes. That’s a pretty healthy minority.
Doki’s one of the few groups still doing 8bit encodes. It would be a shame if you guys stop.
480p is 8bit :p
We are also one of the few groups who offer 480p BD encodes still.
Just because 10-bit fansub bandwagon people prefer 10-bit doesn’t mean the rest of us should have to suffer.
The only reason the 10-bit torrents have more traffic is because half the clueless downloading are using CCCP and stuff like it.
I’ll agree 10-bit is an interesting alternative for PCs without a good GPU, or for those with gaming-class GPUs that suck at decoding video, but 8-bit works better on systems built for 8-bit video with 8-bit hardware. Mainstream video may one day go 10-bit, but even the lastest and greatest hardware you can buy is still 8-bit, and it will be for the next few years.
There are plenty of people with current-tech and even cutting-edge rigs who prefer and want 720p 8-bit. In fact, the majority of people on the planet Earth prefer 8-bit. 10-bit is in the vast minority. But fansubbers only offering 10-bit 720p and 8-bit 480p have an interesting way of skewing things. I have no idea what’s behind the forcing of 10-bit though, it’s not like they’re getting paid to promote it. My guess is the encoders are lazy and never got good at making 8-bit look awesome, and 10-bit looks better even when they do a crappy job. Otherwise we’d all have 8-bit, everything would look great, and there’d be no 8-bit/10-bit stupidity.

Heck If I know what was said in those discussions, I know they went on for a few hundred comments and this was a result and I’m happy with it.

S1 and S2 BDs are utter shit, and as such will not be getting done by us. Get a copy of the DVD version, it’s better.
Ages ago people posted examples for the Blu Rays on here for Season 1 I think. The quality was awful and reminded me of a youtube video full screened.
I think some people were calling it one of the worst upscales to come out of Japan, along with stuff like Shuffle. If I remember right Holo had to work his magic on that series too.
People said you need to go for the DVD releases of Season 1 and 2 as they are infinitely better.
I think Shuffle still better than Shana. with a little magic, 720p still acceptable.

You do know that the difference between Flac and AAC@320kbps VBR is so small that 99% of the worlds population cannot hear the difference and even those 1% needs industrial quality Headphones/Sound systems to hear the difference. This makes Flac a placebo.
The point of flac is that people can re encode to another format without a loss of quality. Also its not about the fact that you can or can’t hear the difference, its knowing objectively that your audio is the “best” it can possibly be.
Quite the contrary. I don’t care about if it’s FLAC or AAC. I don’t know whether I could hear any difference or not – hell, I’ve never even tried. Still, I don’t really mind the FLAC, and I don’t care enough to re-encode into AAC, even though I’ve been somewhat convinced by all the wall-of-text comments that you can’t hear the difference.
I can’t tell the difference between Flac or whatever is being used. I honestly don’t notice when downloading anyway. I guess it’s because I only have 2 pc speakers lol
