You need the correct codecs. The recommended codec pack is the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack. Uninstall whatever you have, and install this, and it will play, guaranteed.
MPlayer2 is the one to use, apparently.
MplayerOSX is the one to use, apparently.
K-Lite Mega Codec Pack has support for Hi10P.
Click here for more information about Hi10P.
I am assuming that you have all the correct codecs installed. If you are unsure, read up.
The second most common cause of not being to play one of our releases is a corrupt download. All files are checked before we release, and we can guarantee that files are not corrupt when they left our servers. The 8 characters appended to the end of all releases aren’t there for decoration. This is a CRC hash of the file. If you generate a CRC hash of your file (hashmyfiles.exe), and your CRC matches the stated CRC, then your file is an identical copy. However, if you get a different CRC, then your file has changed, or corrupted. The most common cause is due to an incomplete download. To fix this issue, redownload the file from wherever you got it from. If you discover that a file is incomplete on any of our XDCC bots, then you can report this to us via IRC or email.
Our XviD releases should be playable on hardware devices. Note that we no longer release XviDs as of late 2010.
Our h264 releases might be playable on hardware devices, depending on the encoder.
Our Hi10P releases are not playable on hardware devices, because no hardware supports Hi10P at the time of writing (Sept 2011)
Again, this is dependent on the encoder. The majority of our releases are DXVA compatible.
Ordered Chapters are used to save space. The OP and ED are cut from the episodes, and included as seperate files in the same folder, which are linked in when the episode is played, giving the illusion that the whole file is intact.
Ordered Chapers are never used in Doki. The only exception is the BDs of Nogizaka Haruka s1.
Editions are an extension of Ordered Chapters. Different versions of the file can exist in one file. For example, Edition 1 could play the normal OP/ED, Edition 2 could play the NCOP/NCED, and Edition 3 skips the OP/ED.
Editions are normally not used in Doki. They may occassionally be used if I feel it is necessary. An example is 2 episodes in Clannad After Story.
I am looking into the possibility of streaming releases.
