This is the secret project that we have been working for a little while. I’ve actually started this project back when it was aired in 2008 at Cherry-NiceBoat, and it has since been transferred to Sekai-NiceBoat, Chihiro, and now Doki-Chihiro. This marks a very happy day for me and Blazewardog. For me, it is because the scripts that I have prepared for three years are now finally used. For Blaze, it is because he finally has a chance to reunite with his waifu, and able to grace her with 10-bit video, as a test run for both groups.
I would like to point out that we currently only have the first Blu-Ray disc of this series. Blaze and I will be selling “chocolates” later in order to fund money for both the second disc and T.P. Sakura volume 2.
Since this is the first 10-bit video we are releasing (and the first ordered chapter release for Doki), here is a list of software that can play it in order of usefulness:
- mplayer2 : Windows builds can be found here , A git repo for building it on linux is located here
- CCCP: Grab the most recent version on this page. Any version later than 2011-07-30 supports 10-bit.
- MplayerX: I hear this has it for Mac users but i have no idea where, maybe your app store for your “desktop” has it
- VLC : No one should want to use this but a build that should support it is located here
Edit: A v2 to fix the problem with the ED has been released. It is currently located in the fileserve folders linked below.

Can I play 10 bit h264 in VLC ?
No need for the CCCP beta. The current stable release (2011-07-30) supports 10-bit.
yup, that’s right.
Kuzu never took the updated playback information I gave him, that should have been listed
if you don’t want cccp, http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow-tryout/files/SVN%20builds%20by%20clsid/generic%20builds/ ffdshow rev3958 or newer has 10bit support added
K-Lite Codec Pack also supports Hi10P since version 7.6.0
Agree. K-Lite Codec Pack supports start with version 7.6.0(which mean latest version).
Works like a dream. Klite is still my codec of choice.
Well said, Holo. K-Lite is the best choice ever.
Yep, K-Lite serves all purposes perfectly. Love it.
Completly agree with you.
Like MagusHrist said, the current CCCP stable release is 2 days newer than the latest beta and can play 10bit h264.
The post was written like maybe three weeks ago, so whatever, I’ll let Blaze rewrite that part.
grrrr ordered chapters=LAME!!!! seriously man dont everyone have extra harddrive space, 3tb external only costs 120 bucks for christ sakes.
sorry doki, i love you but iordered chapters are retarded!!
U mad?
Every player listed there (besides LOLVLC) supports OCs. Its not like it is Windows/Haali only anymore
Unfortunately, not everyone out there have that kinda money to buy a 2TB drive every now and then, let alone an external. This is especially true for students.
HURRAY! =3
I loved this series, great to see it is getting revived in Hi10P. This will definitely replace the CGi version in my archive.
Great job, Guys.
+1 for still supporting 8bit.
Can 10-bit h264 mkv played on AVPlayerHD (Apple apps) on iPad & iPad 2? It crashed after I start to play them like Baka to Test.
What, no 480p 10-bit?
i hope the translation is better than m.3.3.w and AQS-Anime, or else it won’t beat Coalgirl’s release.
So I downloaded just the ED to test if I had 10-bit support. Audio seems to play fine, but the video’s all messed up, with solid pixel blocks all over. What? :<
Pixel blocks/artifiacts means you don’t have 10-bit support you need to install newer codecs
Thanks. Unfortunately easier said than done, since trying to build mplayer2 gives me more errors than I care to count. Shame it’s not in the repository. Well, guess I have to rely on 8-bit for now.
The README in the git repo linked says exactly what you need to build. After you get those its just
./init –shallow
make -j4
make install <= As root most likely
It was following the README that produced the errors. Kept getting “OSError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory” while the Python script was running (from ./init –shallow), but not being a computer genius by any stretch of the imagination, I’m in no place to troubleshoot 😛
@meshaal
You most likely don’t have some form of git (the SCM) installed.
If you’re on a Debian based system like Ubuntu there’s a ppa for mplayer2 mentioned below or you can search for pre-built packages for you system.
Hit this up a moment ago; now redownloading the 10-bit to test :3
It glitched a lot in mplayer, totem, and vlc alike, but with mplayer2 it works like a charm, a shame it’s not in the repos (ubuntu here). Thanks for the info!
There is a ppa for mplayer2 iirc, if not you SHOULD be able to add debian multimedia which has it.
By repos I meant the regular universe repo. I did get it from ppa (probably wouldn’t be bothered to build it myself). It’s true that there’s a ppa for it out there ( ppa:ripps818/coreavc ).
:O Doki and ordered chapters. Does not compute. Does not compute.
i hope this will the first and the last for OC.
No. i don’t want to see hanasaku with OC >_>
Much appreciation for both 8-10bit.
I prefer 720 anyway. That is a nice in between =D
And by that I forgot to mention I like 8bit just fine. But having both is good for both groups.
I’ll be downloading the 10-bit one for testing… Thanks for the release!
Both my Popcorn hour and WDTV Live kick out errors with these files, so no 10 bit for me. Actually, I don’t think any of the current set top media streamers support 10 bit yet. MPlayerX plays like a slideshow on my core2duo, so I guess Mac users are pretty screwed.
That is what you get for using hardware decoders. Also try just plain mplayer2 OSX, but it might just be the case of having a slow machine.
I have a Core 2 Duo and my computer (in theory should play it fine, once I update my OS from leopard)
See the mPlayer section here for details: http://adriasil.nekosubs.com/blog/index.php/media-players/mac-video-players/
Thanks to pigoz MPlayer OSX Extended has an updated binary.

It should work better than MplayerX, I use it and it works just fine for me.
Also MadVR codec pack works, it’s probably the best for 10bit video at the moment.
Thank you for releasing both 8-bit and 10-bit, I’ve already become a firm believer in the 10-bit codec, after watching Bakemonogatari and Borrowers in Hi10, but the number of complaints about it not running on their PC, makes me think not everyone is ready for the full transition yet.
here’s a comparison
http://i.imgur.com/3c2OW.png
the video quality of the 8-bit from coalgirls seems a little sharper than the 10-bit
Wouldn’t it be more appropriate to compare two Doki releases? Just saying.
Different filter chains etc, if you are going to compare 8 and 10 bit, use the Doki encodes.
Well the point of that comparison is to see which one I’ll keep and I think I’ll be sticking with the Coalgirls encode for now since I already have them.
Im runnin the new cccp (7/30/11) with coreavc and it’s very pixelated for me. any suggestions?
By using CoreAVC, you aren’t getting the whole reason for updating CCCP. Use the ffdshow that is included as THAT supports 10bit. CoreAVC is apparently getting support in its next major version.
Thanks, had a feeling that was the issue. I use coreavc because i have issues playing blue ray quality videos for whatever reason.
Am I the only one getting a playback glitch in the karaoked version of the ED for both 8- and 10-bit h264 versions at 1:12? The audio cuts out (as in it ends: playback during an episode cuts straight to the next ep rpeview audio) and the only thing still playing in the video is the (apparently hard-subbed?) karaoke text.
NC version plays back fine.
Running latest stable version of CCCP (7-30-11) bundled MPC-HC on 64-bit Win7 Ult.
Its not you, somehow doing Trim(31,2179) instead of Trim(31,0) (which are equivalent in this case) somehow breaks avisynth when the kara is added… I have no idea how this happened (or works) but there will most likely be a v2 sometime.
A ton of hassles, none of which provides me with anything I want.
Now just start leaving a lot more untranslated words and your journey to the dark-side will be complete.
Friendly Doki-Chihiro will have become Elitist Chihiro-Doki. Enjoy our encodes, if you can…
If 10bit is too much of a hassle for you, just get the 8bit release.
M_McCheese, that is why they gave you the option of 8-bit now quit being a fag.
