I’ve never studied Japanese, I’ve watched anime and learnt from that. After watching 4:30 minutes of your release I’m getting a bit dissappointed in the blatantly obvious TL mistakes.
at 04:09 “That’s why you throw them away?” line is supposed to be “So that’s why you tell me to discard them?”
Then a few lines later at 04:25 you are TLing it so horribly wrong that it twists the characters personality a lot. its not supposed to be: “I saved your life…and I’m going to have you repay that debt.” What he is actually saying is: “You saved my life, I simply settled that debt I owed you.”
I rarely bother correcting stuff but this is a serious misstranslation so couldn’t restrain myself. I’m not trying to be an ass, I’m just hoping this encourages you to make a v2 and if possible get a decent tlc. Thanks for the subs ^_^
Rawr I am here again, sorry to say this but there is another very grave mistake.
At 15:25 they are talking about the wasps and how they only choose prey inside the walls. Then Nezumi says: “They’d never be able to hear us say those things here” or wait no what he is actually saying is: “We never hear of anything like that here”. The rest following in that is decent but could be rephrased to fit the context.
“We never hear of anything like that here”-> “What that means is that there is no suitable hosts for them to hunt here”
Thus Nezumi explains how he thinks the wasps for some reason only lay their eggs in people from inside the walls.
Your TL is totally confusing the whole plot π Though besides the points I’ve brought up it is good =)
The translation for 4:05, while incorrect, isn’t bad for meaning. It’s just technically not what was said. The translation for 15:25, I didn’t catch that at all last night but now that Shuffleblade brings it up it does sound like the subject of Rat’s line are not the No.6 officials but rather the denizens of the outlands since θγγͺγing is taking place γγγ§.
I suppose now that I go back and listen to it more closely that Shuffleblade might be onto something. Nezumi is telling Shion that the people in the outlands have never heard of these wasps, and the only way for that to be the case is if people in the outlands don’t make for suitable hosts.
Thanks for giving me such a nice response both of you and taking me seriously. I appreciate it, I hope you didn’t take offense because it wasn’t my intention, didn’t seem like you did but wanted to underline it anyhow. ^_^
I appreciate the close reading, we’ll take these readings into consideration. I do not, however, appreciate your accusations. They are unnecessary. Pointing out mistakes is good, criticizing my ability is not any of your business, and can be left in your own personal text file. Be aware that we do shows like No. 6 on a time constraint and things are not going to be flawless. I work quickly and sometimes misinterpret a scene without much time to review. If you haven’t noticed, this project is handled by only three people.
The way I see it, I expect there to be mistakes in the TV release; if you want perfection, wait for our BD release when we take all of these excellent contributions into consideration and take the time to proofread it all over again. If the consensus is that fans would like me to push back release and take my time with the scenes, I can consider that as well. Although I’m sure it will birth an entire legion of, “No. 6 WHERE”.
And for the record, I hardly think I confused the “whole plot”. If you feel like you’re missing something, there’s always Crunchy Roll.
Yeah I’ve realized I was a bit aggressive which was not my intention, I’m sorry for that.
I do not believe I’ve criticized your ability, as I said that was at the very least not what I intended to do. I realize my use of TL might have been foolish, I’ve meant TL as “translation” and not as a direct attack on you the translator but I understand that it sounded like that since I used the term tlc too.
I do believe the mistakes are obvious, since I am an extreme amateur and only watched the scenes once (except for the last line I posted about the wasps) I said, or at least intended to say that your translation is confusing the whole plot. Which I’ll confess to is an exaggeration but still not entirely untrue, the threat of the wasps and how they work are the actual main theme and central plot-point right now. To miss translate how they are thought to work is quite heavy, that is at the very least my opinion if you do not agree with me that is fine.
I realize you all are doing this on your own free time and that you got time restraints. I am very thankful for the work you do and beg your forgiveness for my brash post. I’ll not waste any more of your time.
I’d like to thank everyone for the messages. After reviewing the script, I admit that the aforementioned are clear mistakes; they are fixed now. I’m not certain whether a v2 will be released prior to the BD, though.
Up until now, due to under-staffing, this show has not even had a TLC. On top of it, the process of speed subbing, if anyone is familiar with it, makes it difficult for me to backtrack in the script and do the role myself.
From now on, I will be taking the extra time to do just that, so please understand any delays.
The passage from Macbeth is Act 5, scene 1, lines 45 to 48:
LADY MACBETH: Here’s the smell of the blood still. All the perfumes of Arabia will not sweeten this little hand. Oh, oh, oh!
DOCTOR: What a sigh is there! The heart is sorely charged.
Although it’s unlikely that it’s critical to know these lines to understand the Deep Significance of “No. 6,” it would at least be nice to indicate that there are two characters talking here (which explains why Nezumi mocks Shion’s flat delivery). Just another thing to consider for a future v2/BD release.
Thank you for this! Not being familiar with the text, and not having the time to hunt it down, I just made due with a rough idea of what was being said. A more accurate appropriation will make it into the BD release for completeness.
You obviously need an explanation on artistic interpretation and what works best in preparing a show on a short deadline as well. We don’t need your words of praise.
Since I hardly get BDs (due to internet capping), I would have really appreciated if Doki did v2s with patches later on once you guys release the BD versions of your TV shows. I mean since you do a recheck on the translations for BD releases, then why not give those of us who are content with your TV releases for archive a v2 patch? Could be a bit of too much for asking knowing you guys are working on so many projects :P. Just sayin’
I have been following Doki for three seasons now and I have to say I have become quite a big fan of your releases! Keep the goodies coming!
So much criticism…. thank you for putting up with it, and for continuing to sub this show. For someone like me this is a wonderful gift and I really appreciate your team.
Aw fuck yeah.
Awesome! I usually go for GG (lol) but I prefer your version this time.
Thank you π I’ll continue to bring you my best!
Just found this series and you guys have been doing a great job so far! Thank you so much for all your hard work!
Back-to-back-back releases! Nice! Thanks!
I mean back-to-back-to-back earlier… oops…
Thank you guys you’re awesome !!!
Thank you!
I have to report a breakdown.. in control. Number Two needs to be replaced. Yes, this is Number Two reporting.
FFS another Allen Walker.
Thank you so much! Best subber ever!

I take on board what you’re saying, however, Thaerin usually doesn’t make mistakes like that… I’d like to hear what he has to say regarding this, lol.
The original lines were:
4:09: γ γγζ¨γ¦γγ¨…
15:25 γγγ§γγγͺθ©±γγ€γγθγγͺγγ

The guy with silver hair in the screencap looks like Allen Walker from D.Gray-man, yay.
thanks but imma need your sperm before you go.

Thanks, this is getting interesting…
I think there is an mistake at 20m15s:
It’s not an “X” in this message it looks more like “η«”, which is fire or short for Tuesday

If you ask me, mistakes are a mark of inferior skill, but hey, that’s just me. Time constraints shouldn’t really count for anything.
I’d like to see you translate an episode in 2 hours with 100% accuracy.
With CCs? Easy.
I’m not a translator, though, and neither are all the people you put up to the job. They’re just masquerading as one.
The really funky thing is, noitamina airs with CCs…
I can only suspect that your “translators” have a very slippery grasp of Japanese grammar, otherwise why misunderstand something written down?
“Easy” “But I’m not a translator” lol excuses already. Go watch horriblesubs if you don’t like our releases.
I said I’m not a translator, and still it would be easy for me.
A show like GITS would be difficult to sub flawlessly within two hours, but No.6? Don’t make me laugh.
One of these days you need to stop dreaming and realize that the people you have helming your ship are utterly inept.
Money where your mouth is.
You obviously need an explanation on artistic interpretation and what works best in preparing a show on a short deadline as well. We don’t need your words of praise.
Artistic interpretation? Pray tell, what does that sentence there mean? Did you believe this was some kind of idiom? Well, it isn’t.
Thanks for the release as always.

Thank you very much for the release! I’m following your releases for this anime. ^^ Keep up the good work people even during time constrain.
