Edit: 01-02 V2’d to fix encode and consistency with later episodes. Torrent will be updated at batch. Not patchable.

Nice surprise xD Thanks Doki
When you say modified a lot, what do you mean?
Does every second sentence contain the word squid or did you add ~de geso to every sentence? And I hope you de-localized the script if it was localized (I don’t know cause I watched FFFPeeps)
Stuck with the squidy stuff, since that’s why i picked the CR subs.
By modified i mean Nanakoto went through it and fixed the TL errors. Then pawprint fixed up the CR mess, added back in honourifics and such… and Ika is now called Ika… not squid girl/squiddie.
The hell, did CR call her squiddie? Thank god I didn’t watch UW.
BTW if you’re up for more random BDs, how about TWGOK lols.
“Squiddie”, “Squid Girlie”, “Squid Girl” etc, all trying and failing miserably to approximate honorifics and forms of address. And then they took pretty much every instance of “~de geso” or “-ika” as an excuse to shove things like “That’s squidding amazing!” into sentences or just *completely make up* episode titles. No, literally, they would just write new ones that had only the most tenuous relationship to the original Japanese title.
It felt like watching a commercial translation from the late 80’s or early 90’s where the original script was considered, at best, a vague guide you could leave or take at will, rather than an actual script of what’s being said. Hands down the worst translation of 2010, and one of the worst ever.
Doki’s changes will correct a lot of these points, but for whatever reason they made a conscious decision to leave in one of the worst. Yes, I’m confused too…
“Stuck with the squidy stuff, since that’s why i picked the CR subs.”
Geh, *why*? This was by far one of the worst translations CR has ever done. There is nothing more patheic than taking a very simple concept (she has a couple consistent verbal ticks that don’t translate into English at all) and using it as free reign for the writers to change episode titles and try to make horrendously unfunny jokes in virtually every sentence. This was translation at its worst.
Even with all the other fixes you’re making, which are quite welcome by the way, you’ve left in one of the pillars of what made this such a terrible translation.
So close, yet so far. I already put a lot of time and effort into making the subs for the broadcast versions something watchable, so I guess I have to stick with those instead. Unless I can get those to match up properly with these (provided there’s no linked OP/EDs which messes me up).
Ika’s quirky mannerisms are what make the show funny. Take that out, and you’re left with more “accurate” but bland dialogue.
I’d much prefer “What the squid?!” over “What the hell?!” after hearing “de geso” and “ika” over and over again.
Well, I prefer the dialogue to be more accurate though. The show should be enjoyed for itself, on its own merits and not the gimmicky subtitles.
Thanks for doing this. This series is so good I bought the dakimakura lol
I lol’d at the staff positions xD
I’m sure you wanted to be in my position xD Geso-lator checker XD I check the gesos for mistakes de geso!
Thanks for doing this series. I was waiting for someone to release some quality BD releases before watching.

Crunchy?! FFFFffff FFF was decent enough. Whutevr… Tanks ~de geso
What a nice surprise!
Now I can looking forward to watching Ika in FULL HD, 1080p HD! Unfortunately, it will have to wait until tomorrow. Damn..about time!
Thanks very much, indeed!
Wow this was kinda unexpected for me.
CR as original subs? ks, didnt see that one coming, at all.
Haven´t watched all eps of this anime, so i might as well do it now.
Thanks!
Why not FFFpeeps?
Yeah I think the did a good job on the series.
I liked this show. I watched it with another fansub group.
I’m going to get 720p for this. I hope the subs you’ve chosen are decent.
Thank you – De Geso~
Forget to mention, there is another season of Shinryaku, not yet aired though. I hope you take it when the time comes. 🙂
Thanks ~

LOL. XD
When will the other volumes be released?
Btw, thanks Doki. This series is good. 🙂
Volumes 1-5 are already out, my other projects are up to date, so shall be working on this until one of those other shows are released.
Since side panel is out of sync…
Vol 6 IM 18th May
Vol 4 DC @BDMV due out 25th May
Vol 3 OC @BDMV due out 11th May
Vol 2 MSMM @BDMV not sure when vol 2 is out yet, also watching for an update to the audio for episode 2.
Note: These dates are when the BDMV will be released, not a time table of when we have have them completed by!
All right! I can’t wait.
Yes 🙂 You always impress me with your surprise releases, thanks a lot. Waiting for the torrent.
Mmm… Will be checking this out as when it aired, not one group that I checked out did a decent job with the puns nor in terms of the localization. Will be checking this release out in hopes that it finally gets a subtitle worthy of it.
FFFpeeps did a goob job subbing Ika-Musume
thought u guys should might wanna take a look 🙂
btw love the surprise 😀
They’re already doing BDs with their scripts. There wouldn’t really be a point of using theirs. Coalgirls would disagree, though.
lol , gesolator ROFL
anyone ever tried comparing the video quality to Coalgirls’ or ANE’s encodes?
Coalgirls vs. Doki

Doki version looks to be sharper and less banding.
People in foreground and background on outside scene and the water for banding.
From watching the 1st 4 eps via Underwater’s TV-rips, I don’t see what’s wrong with using “Squid Girl” or its variants instead of the untranslated versions. “Ika Musume” is far from an ordinary Japanese name, and the human characters clearly see and identify her as a squid. So it’s logical to reflect that meaning in the subs, instead of hoping the viewers know or telling them in a TL note that “Ika Musume means Squid Girl.” It’s like leaving “Duck” as “Ahiru” in Princess Tutu, or “Hell Girl” as “Jigoku Shoujo.”
But CR’s subs have much better English flow and editing than FFFPeeps, thus making them a better starting point.
Doki prefer to keep honourifics intact. Squiddie-chan would look even more laughable than the CR/UW standalone version.
As for needing a note for what Ika Musume means… It’s pretty damn obvious, Squid Daughter, right?
