Incentives to Watch Campanella

It’s been a while since I last post here. It’s good to be back to fansubbing again. I enjoy translating the shows that I do, I hope all of you out there share the same sentiments as me. I chose Shukufuku no Campanella this season after taking a look at the first episode.

I heard about the negative reviews about the show circulating. While I understand it is not that great a show, I chose it because it is unpopular, not oversubbed, has got a great animation, and lastly it has potential. Traditionally, eroge turn anime adaptations are infamous in that they do not have solid plots. However I am willing to give every anime a try until the very end to prove their worth.

On summer last year, another eroge adaptation Princess Lover turned out to be quite decent except for the ending. Having done Princess Lover last year, I wanted to give Campanella a try. I was interested to learn why both shows are eroge adaptations, but Princess Lover got very positive reviews while Campanella got negative reviews.

Finally, the anime like Ladies versus Butlers! have extra footage included in the DVDs. LvB! has strip shows whereas Campanella has shower footage apparently available for 3D tv. Hopefully I can entice people to watch this show.

  • ukato

    wait 3D?!?!?!?!?

  • fafofifous

What a pity I decided to watch this raw, otherwise I’d be picking your releases: you’re one of the active groups I appreciate the most.

3D would be pretty cool, but what are the chances of us having 120 hz monitors (so damn expensive) + 3D glasses :[.

2D will be available for poor folks like me πŸ™‚

“another eroge adaptation Princess Lover turned out to be quite decent”
    … … …*wat*

Princess Lover was awful, one of the dumbest series I’ve seen in years. Which is a shame because I liked it at first. Campanella is, so far, absolutely fantastic though. Definitely much better.

Why this adaption sucks and Princess Lover does not (that much):
As far as I know, Princess Lover only adapted one route of the novel and basically scrapped the rest. Furthermore the novel isn’t really that long.

Campanella is much longer and thus has a MUCH higher chance to fail by default. So far it seems there is no miracle happening.
On the other hand this anime isn’t made for us anyway. We aren’t fans of the novel after all. (and won’t become fans, because even if we like some of the characters, the novel is in japanese. )

It may fail as a standalone, but if you try squeezing 20-30hours into 4, this is imo very understandable… imagine a manga-adaption that uses one episode per 3volumes or something like that.

Any kind of show is fine to me…if it’s ecchi. πŸ˜‰

  • I like the idea of being able to watch – and understand ( I guess it does have subtitles? ) – little known Anime. By the law of averages, there must be some good ones out there that have not received the coverage they deserve. I am sure the big companies who translate Anime would likely pass over those not likely to be money-spinners, so it is refreshing that some people make the effort to find the less well known ones. Thank you!

I’ve seen some really good shows that have flown under the radar a few times. I’ve also seen shows that I thought were really good, even though snobby “anime critics” didn’t like them. Even in the cases that the show wasn’t especially great or the animation wasn’t top notch, some of the less well known ones can have interesting or unique premises/settings which can be a nice detour from the usual anime formula.
An example that pops to mind is Sci-Fi Harry. Not the greatest anime and not the greatest animation, but it’s set in the Pacific Northwest with American characters which is unique. One detail that is never made light of, but will stand out from anime in a Japanese setting is that the high schooler owns a TRUCK πŸ™‚

    The art is so pretty.

  • Arrnea

The art in Campanella might be decent, but the story is boring and unoriginal.

Not to mention the town’s ‘secret treasure’ is called… wait for it… Artifact.

  • OniSamurai

Sadly that first picture alone was enough to get me to finally download it. From the screenshot you guys posted when the first episode was available to download, it looked like a kids series or something.

  • echo

Rather than promote using CG, better using PV / demo movie instead.

  • bonta-kun

Yeah, based on the previous pic I thought it’s a kiddy series. Now looking at the top pic.. ok I’m sold. πŸ˜€

  • Shudoshi

you guys make me acquire the game itself… based on the publisher, the story could be quite interesting (haven’t played it yet), well anyway keep up the good works (will watch the series after playing the game)

  • qaz

3D scenes?! Do want! I hope you/someone will make it side-by-side for watching or regular monitors.

  • luzkun

Yeah i have already got both epp’s but hell that fist pic…just WOW

  • Marmalade

    I love this show πŸ™‚

  • Captain King

    3D shower scenes?
You’ve sold me, I’ll be sure to give it another shot.

  • martinez

    don’t worry…no matter what….no matter what other people say about it…..how awful….how boring…..

i will follow Campanella until the very end……:)

  • This is on my to watch list, I just have not had time to get it. I also don’t mind if the story line sucks, as long as I kinda like it. ANY WHO, thanx for the links to the CGs, also there is no words in the CGs.

  • ChaelMi

cool, well it’s my first time hearing 3D TV though! XD poor me!

  • Jimb0

the first episode was crap. they spent 5 minutes randomly dancing with puppets. The second episode was much improved

  • Flammer

I’m seriously thinking about starting to watch this again…

    Continue the good work!
