Should I use FLAC for the audio in the 720p version? It will increase the file size by another 100 MB or so.
1080p (h264): [Doki] Kanon – 02 (1920×1080 h264 BD FLAC) [1C6EBD80].mkv
720p (h264): [Doki] Kanon – 02 (1280×720 h264 BD AC3) [880E37CA].mkv
480p (XviD): [Doki] Kanon – 02 (848×480 XviD BD MP3) [65A7A1C8].avi
I’m satisfied with the AC3, though I wouldn’t mind flac either… but I AM collecting the 1080p too so it’s there if I ever rewatch it on a better computer.
Anyway, looking forward to this and subsequent episodes, long time since I last watched Kanon, brings back memories^^…
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!….this is such a great series
Hell no. Lossless audio is a waste of space, and the only reason I won’t go near the other rips, if you catch my drift.
If I really wanted the omg best audiovisual experience, I’d get the 1080p.
Yea, unless you have supersonic hearing, or speakers the size of drums, you can’t hear the difference. Will be sticking to AC3 I think.
Wohoo, Kanon again 🙂 Thank you 🙂
@Holo: Would you be in the need of torrent-seed or IRC-Bot? My EMailadress is valid so contact me if required – I would love to help u guys.
nice release, guys.
is anyone finding the subs a bit light in color? making it sometimes hard to read especially when this series is you know..all the snow and white colors in it. is it possible to make the subs a bit darkened in color (or maybe add shadow in the subs), so that it is easier to read, thanks.
One example you can notice is at 24:08 of ep1, where the title in japanese has shadow, making it much easier to read than the english title.
thanks.
Thanx 4 episode 2, I have just barely finish re-watching KANON 2002, both are good IMO. ANY WHO… JAANA~ d(-_^)
The way I see it:
1080p h264 + flac – Highest quality, disk space/video playback performance isn’t a serious concern.
720p h264 + ac3 – Balanced between quality, disk space requirements, playback performance, etc.
480p xvid + mp3 – crap, honestly, but if disk space or playback performance is such a serious concern…
I’m saving the 1080p versions. If I went for 720p, it would be because I want the decent quality video/audio with smaller filesize. ac3 is at least better than mp3 for lossy audio.
I’m pleasantly surprised my E6320 @ 2.33GHz was able to play the Kanon OP smoothly, though I’m a bit disappointed my HD4830 was not able to do the h264 decoding via DXVA (incompatible encoding settings or whatever).
Wow, great releases. Are you purchasing the blu-ray’s or downloading raws somewhere? I know blu-ray disks are very expensive and I’ve seen many groups take longer and longer or even drop a project due to cost issues.
This is the only blu-ray release I can find for this show, so I don’t want to see it go down the drain D:
I downloaded the Blu ray disks that someone had uploaded, so I have all of them. About 100 GB in total lol.
I’m actually finding FLAC to be somewhat problematic, at least with Mplayer. To be more specific, it’s not automagically converting 5.1 FLAC to stereo sound.. I suppose I could always upgrade my speakers,, but…..I’ve only got two ears 🙂
Try the KLite codec pack. I’ve never used Mplayer so can’t comment on how to fix it.
I had trouble playing .flac files with just Klite and CCCP, you should try downloading “OggCodecs” which will allows for better playback of .ogg and .flac files.

there is a 32bit and 64bit version, so get the right one.
CCCP with MPC-HC should play just fine, unless you’re on a Linux machine, which might explain why you’re using MPlayer? My experience with MPlayer is very limited (when I was playing with Ubuntu for a short while), so I’m not able to help either.
Is the AC3 the same too? I use mplayerc and the sound is a bit dim. Let me try again.
Oh, I think I got it. It’s just ticking the normalize in the audio switcher and increasing the volume boost. Also, I saw that this is a 5.1ch audio. Maybe you mentioned this somewhere else, but I haven’t checked other posts yet. Anyway, thanks!
