Kanon (2006) – 01

Kanon - 01

Uguu~~

The 1080p version is going to be ~1 GB, because I am encoding at CRF 19 and using FLAC audio. For episode 1, the bitrate is ~5 Mbps. File size is a bit on the large side, but it’s Kanon, so it’s worthy of such a large file size 🙂

1080p (h264): [Doki] Kanon – 01 (1920×1080 h264 BD FLAC) [91923CA5].mkv

720p (h264): [Doki] Kanon – 01 (1280×720 h264 BD AC3) [701CD4BE].mkv

480p (XviD): [Doki] Kanon – 01 (848×480 XviD BD MP3) [E1CD0FB6].avi

Great! I planned watch at 720p cuz my laptop have res 1280×720 and when i watchin in 1080p its a little laggy but i think i move it to PC and connect it to 50′ plasma TV <3. Anyway Thanks a lot for this relase… Kanon was my first Anime… I watched it about 3 years ago, I was crying a lot but i have nice memories with it. So it's time to go back to times when everything begun ^^.

    Sry if my english sux a lot… A have fever… Big one…

wow thanks a lot for this great release.
Audio & video are great and eclipse subs are the best out there!

Keep up the good work 🙂

Why won’t you use flac for 720p? And I noticed that the signs are other than the title signs are not done.

Other than that nice release 😀

  • Holo

If I used FLAC, it would be another 100MB on top lol.

  • Headphone

Maybe it’s me but I don’t think people downloading BD releases care about sizes and I’d rather have a perfect release. It’s still a very nice release 🙂

  • Holo

I guess if they want a truely “perfect” release, they’d get the 1080p, right?

  • Headphone

The 1080p is an upscale so I won’t even bother with it 😉

  • Holo

Upscale or not, it looks so damn good. That pic of Ayu is a screencap from the 1080p version.

Thank you very much for this release, I just stumbled over this and was curious as I did German Translations back then (and English, too) – liked this anime a lot. I’ll help seeding the 1080p version, my server is on it. 🙂

  • xeron

Wonder how much the file size would have gone up if you did dual-audio FLAC…lol

  • Soukyuu

    Thanks for the release.
So, the 1080p is an upscale? I’m a bit confused here, since i thought BD = native 1080p

Also, do you have any plans to do BDs of Air (and Clannad if it gets BD)?

  • Holo

This 1080p is encoded directly from the Blu Ray disk, so its native 1080p.

Air is terribly upscaled at 1080p, because they upscaled it and put it on bluray. B-G is releasing 720p versions of it, and its been filtered etc to make it look good, so i probably wont do air now.

And yes, I love clannad, and will do it when it comes out in april. Which is good timing, i’ll have finished kanon by then.

Just a little question: do you plan to release all the 1080p episodes fully softsubbed? I can’t stand any kind of hardsub (karaoke, signs or whatever). Thanks 🙂

  • Holo

    Yep, everything is fully softsubbed.

  • ANIKI

COOL~ since you used those subs I will get this in avi for smaller file as my graphics hardware is low. Thanx once again for re-subbing this one and encoding it Doki Staff… LATEZ~ d(-_^)

  • opi

can someone upload this eps to megaupload or something..plss..

  • w4terfall

Thanks so much for this! It looks absolutely gorgeous. Thanks for the multiple resolutions too — my comp can’t handle 1080p, so having 720 available is great.

    GREAT JOB! :O
Thx a lot for this wonderful releases of this series and awesome you use eclipse subs ^-^/

    I like you guys 🙂

Actually, this was the first show Kyoto Animation originally mastered in high definition, so this won’t be an upscale. That information was in the original Japanese DVD release for this show.

HD Mastered Video + HD Mastered Audio with Audio choices on the discs for LPCM 5.1 and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 as well as LPCM 2.0… all for a low low price of ¥62,580 MSRP ($689 USD / $708 CAD right now). Double ouch.

Looking forward to checking the 1080p one out myself, as this show is one of my favorites. I have this on DVD, but the BD price is a little out of my fancy at the moment.

  • Funny, but when I played the 720p AC3 NCOP video, the audio is so low that I have crank up my speaker to about 50 percent just to get a sound. Is this like a 5.1ch or something?
