Atelier Escha & Logy – Alchemists of the Dusk Sky (BD) – Vol 1

Vol 1 of this show I’ve never seen.

Oh, also from this point on I’m not doing 480p releases anymore (existing shows with 480p will be finished with 480p). Waste of time/space these days and makes it easier for me/saves me time when it comes to uploading/patching/etc.

There will only be 1 subtitle track on this release, the non-localised one.

    Yay more project to stall

Thanks for doing the BD version of the show you guys already finished and aren’t stalling.

  • AwYiss

There seem to be some honorifics missing from ep1, could you patch that later? Thanks!

    • lol

Anyway, feel free to point them out and give the times that they do not appear, or they will not be fixed.

nvm, I got them. Was ep 2 the same?

Thanks for pointing this out for ep 1!

    • AwYiss

I’ll leave the timings just in case you want to cross check them:
      Ep1: 5:23, 5:55, 6:54, 6:58, 7:00, 8:40, 19:07, 19:23, 21:02.
      Ep2 was just one, 8:26.
      Thanks!

Can you please keep up with “standard” sizes – e.g. DVD5 for 12(13) episodes in the show and DVD9 for 24(26)?
    Thanks in advance.

    • Not even sure what you are asking.

Back in the days of lore, many fansub groups did strive to make their encoded shows’ file sizes such that a season would fit easily upon one (or some multiple of) DVD5 (one layered DVD) or DVD9 (double layered DVD). This was back in the time where optical storage was for most the best available and/or affordable solution for mass anime storage.

For such a request to be made today, I assume that the honorable gentleman is very likely a time lord who has miscalculated the era he presently occupies. Or he is trying to watch anime on his Amiga 500 or Atari ST. Behold, for he art truly the living definition of ‘edge case’.

Benny, in all seriousness, they’re not going to do that.

I was thinking about to buy a WD Red 10TB and someone mentions DVD in 2017.

  • Benny

request above – for 720p releases, of course.

  • I was wondering when groups were gonna start dropping 480 encodes. lol

    Might check this out. 🙂

  • Well now I can only wait for a batch for BD Version. 😛

    480p you will be missed

  • 480p

what about all the good times we had together? did they mean nothing to you?
    where’s the love?
    wah!
    🙁
    *runs crying from room*

Well, I don’t care about this particular show, since it was so boring, but I guess it’s time to buy a dedicated server to encode future shows back to [s]USSR[/s] 480p. 🙂
    Anyway thanks for your work!

RIP 480p. Not that I ever used it, aside for a few eps of Hanasaku Iroha back when I had a weaker PC, and even then 720p ran fine.

  • Suki

    Intel Pentium 4 3.0E (1c/2t, 13 yo) can run 720p fine.
    Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 (2c/2t, 9 yo) can run 1080p fine.
    Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 (4c/4t, 9 yo) can run 2160p fine.

Now we got the good deal for price/performance from AMD. Ryzen 1200 (4c/4t) starting at $110 that can run 2160p fine to Ryzen 1700 (8c/16t) at $350 that can run 4320p fine and probably could even run 8640p fine. Or you could use VGA to decoding via DXVA. RX400/RX500/GTX900 series support VP9/HEVC/H264 up to 2160p while GTX1000 series support VP9/HEVC/H264 up to 4320p.

Even the ancient space heater P4 can run 720p and you could buy a C2Q today at lower than $10. I’m wondering what kind of ancient PC that some people still using that need 480p.

my need for 480p (and i assume at least a few other peoples) was never driven by processor power, but rather having a file small enough that i could download it in less than a day. unfortunately, not everyone has “modern” internet speeds even in 2017, and moving is not always an option,
just saying it’s not neccessarily the pc that’s the issue.

  • Nick

Unrealted but could you please reseed Shukufuku no Campanella batch?

(May also post it on nyaa for better seeds? :P)

  • Nick

Never notice it but yea 😀

For me, the 480p format was the preferable option, because I’m responsible for downloading shows for the anime club I’m part of. 720p and larger take up huge chunks of storage space, and with 30+ shows each new season, the smaller drives I have quickly fill up (1-2Tb).

480p meant I could easily store an entire season of shows on a single 2Tb drive, but now the fansubs are moving to exclusively larger-sized files, so I need to buy bigger drives, which takes money away from other stuff. On top of that, I need to copy files to the newer drives, so I can mothball the smaller drives and make room for the larger ones.

Sad to see 480p go away…

    • 2tb drives are so 2010! Get your club to help pay for bigger drives.

Decent 720 encodes aren’t normally that much bigger than 480 — usually in the 90-150mb region. 720 sits nicely in the mid-point with much better quality than 480 and smaller filesize than 1080.

Also, it means less for us to archive on our servers, saving _us_ a bit of space and less bandwidth is wasted on 480 for reseeding stuff which means people wanting to download 720-1080 get better speeds!

    • There will always be people who re-encode our stuff into 480p.

    • anonymlol

Usually, our (my) 720p hevc releases are the same size as 480p h264. So you get better quality at the same size.

  • All I can say is, thank you all for doing 480p as long as you have, especially when some groups were ready to ditch it back in 2006-08.
