They have a ‘No Drop’ policy. Which means its not dropped, there is just nobody working on it and no plans to work on it. Indefinitely stalled! (this is the one group that never announces a drop)
Most groups would drop a show if they lost the motivation to work on it, and perhaps pick it back up once/if someone decides to work on it. However, this group has a ‘No Drop’ policy which is one of their core principles. You can read why at https://doki.co/about-us/
If you have the time, you could try joining the group at working on this. I’m sure there are people willing to work on it. Just missing one motivated and necessary piece to the puzzle. Id like to offer my help… but unfortunately that would just stall us more.
Some fansub organizations structure work on a project by having a largely independent volunteer work group be responsible for each project. A work group consists of individuals who volunteered for a project in which they were interested. These volunteers are not necessarily “regular” members of the fansub organization.
Each individual in a work group is responsible for a particular component of the project e.g., translation; editing for syntax, spelling and “good” English; typesetting subtitles; timing; quality checking; and so on.
Arranging the production of projects using independent volunteer work groups often allows a fansub organization to have a higher rate of production than would occur if they used only the “regular” members of the fansub organization. However, this flexibility may also lead to problems.
If a work group volunteer becomes unavailable for some reason, one cannot simply assign someone to the work group because no one is immediately available. The work group consists of volunteers, so a new volunteer must be recruited. A new work group volunteer must have the requisite skill set to cover the component of the project that the now missing old member had been covering.
There may be potential volunteers who are interested in working on the stalled project, but they cannot be used because they do not have the particular skills needed for the frozen component. Or there may be someone who is interested and has the needed skills, but cannot be used this person is fully booked on other projects.
So, until a volunteer who has the needed skill set can be found, the project will be stalled.
Of course, this problem may also occur when work groups are constructed using a fansub organization’s stable of regulars, but it occurs less frequently in such instances.
So, if volunteer work groups are used, there will be a higher rate of production accompanied by a higher frequency of stalled projects. If work groups of “regulars” are used there will be a lower rate of production together with a lower frequency of stalled projects.
I suspect that Doki uses the volunteer work group system, but would not be particularly if I were wrong.
After all, I have never allowed ignorance to prevent me from holding and offering an opinion.
You’re close. Doki has a system of Project Leaders, who are trusted to run their own projects. Pik, the PL on this project, encountered IRL issues and thus this project has been stalled. However he has promised me that it will be finished, and I trust him to do so.
