Hitori Bocchi suffers from extreme social anxiety, she’s not good at talking to people, takes pretty extreme actions, is surprisingly adept at avoiding people, her legs cramp when she overexerts herself, gets full of herself when alone, will vomit when exposed to extreme tension and often comes up with plans. Now she is entering middle school and her only friend, Yawara Kai, is attending a different school. This leaves Bocchi alone, surrounded by new classmates with whom she must make friends before Kai will talk to her again.

PS, according to the afterword, the author is terrified of getting cancelled and even states that if volume 1 doesn’t sell, the series will get cancelled. And at the current state, there’s no telling whether or not a volume 2 will ever be released. He apparently spent every month thinking about how he could wrap it up if he were told his serialization was getting cancelled after the next month’s magazine.
He even put quite a bit of effort into promoting the comic on the web, posting webcomics for months after volume 1 was released in order to help raise awareness.
Of course, the “current state” was when volume 1 was released 6 months ago, and the series is still running in the latest edition of the magazine, so I have no idea whether or not the situation is still that uncertain. (That’s not necessarily an indicator; it may still be only hanging on by a thread.) But every little bit is still helpful!
Bocchi deserves a chance!
