I’m not surprised by your choice of release pic. I approve. Miyabi <3
dem poofies
So we decided to skip Vol. 2?
LOL .. I came to the same conclusion 🙂
Never mind, didn’t read clearly!
I thought that i missed vol 2 lel
Even if this volume comes first, its ok… Thanks for the release!
It’s good that you’re not willing to sacrifice on quality just to have something released.
Groups could really learn something from you guys.
I could be entirely off the mark but that comes across as a negative comment to me.
That’s not actually the reason in this case, though. Volume 3 became available, and Volume 2 has yet to. Hopefully somebody will put it on share sooner or later.
Thanks! 😀
What happen to BD vol.2 ?
Ixlone explained in the opening post, when he gets a copy of the Blu Ray stuff he will release. I’m not of a fan of the show personally so don’t know when these are being released.
Should be soon though.
Don’t panic, have faith in Doki. They never disappoint. 😛
Sometimes they do. Most of the time they don’t, but sometimes they do. I’m a fan of Doki, but that won’t keep me from giving critique where it’s due, and look elsewhere if I’m not happy with a release.
Which releases have you been displeased with?
Well, I’ve never been unhappy with the video or audio quality in your releases (I don’t have an eye for details in the video, or the proper gear to hear the differences in sound quality between releases), but I’m very picky about subs and translations (including typesetting when applicable and necessary), so the instances where those haven’t lived up to my standards are usually the ones where I’ve ended up archiving a release from other groups. But your translators usually (as far as I can remember) do a good job, and when you use subs from other groups, you always pick the best ones, so it’s mostly when you use official subs (which for some reason always seem to leave out lines, translate wrong in certain places, or make odd choices in others) and don’t TLC them that I’m not completely satisfied. For instance, your release of “From Up on Poppy Hill” was great, because you had Vocalonation TLC all the official lines, and translate all the lines that weren’t translated (i.e left out in the official subs). However, for “Grave of the Fireflies”, you used the official subs without even TLC’ing them, and the result was not good (check my comments in the release post for that one for examples of why it was not good).
That said (and I’m worried about mentioning this because I know I risk being flamed to death for saying this, and I don’t feel like arguing…), a rare instance I remember well was your release of “Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae o Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai” (Haganai), where you had your own TL’s translate the show, but you did significantly worse than any of the other major groups that worked on the show, including UTW, m.3.3.w, Taka, gg, Ayako, and FroZen. If you’re going to protest against this statement, first read 8thSin’s comparisons here: http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=cmt&id=36416&page=1 and here: http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=cmt&id=36416&page=3 or I won’t take you seriously.
I believe the criticisms were based on the first tl who did the first few eps, and yes, it was done below standards. But mimori took over half way through, and tlced all bds, so those criticisms no longer apply. Also take comments on anidb with a pinch of salt, as there aren’t enough bridges to house all the trolls that lurk there.
I believe you, the translation was probably improved after the first few episodes, and fixed for the BD’s. And yes, I DO take AniDB comments with more than just a pinch of salt; I don’t trust most of the commentors there. I DO however trust 8thSin, and his TL capabilities.
8thSin is a good TL, I don’t doubt that, but given that the groups he associates with aren’t exact best buddies of ours, what he says may not be without bias.
That may be true…I didn’t think about that…Does that include UTW? He associates with them a lot, but they’ve always come across as nice people to me (I hang around their site too, though not nearly as much as here at Doki).
UTW are cool, but gg and Commie aren’t exactly fans, lol.
Good to know that Doki and UTW aren’t on bad terms. I don’t know much about Commie, so I can’t say anything about them, but I’ve never liked gg, what with their constant trolling, and their overdone localization in all their translations.
Always interesting when UTW pay Doki a visit on the comments area. I remember that time when half their staff was commenting here on that one topic.
@Rokudaime
I don’t know anything about commie personally either, I’ve downloaded their Persona 4 and Sword Art Online stuff and never had a problem. They seem like a decent group in terms of quality of their stuff, can’t say I know about who runs it, couldn’t even quote you a name of a staff member lol
