It’s been a while. I’m sure everyone noticed how I disappeared and Doki stopped sucking for a while there! Well, never fear, I am back to fag up more releases and accidentally everything!
In other news, this is my show this season, Tari Tari, and here’s the crew:

lol, that’s my bad, I totally forgot about the whole 10bit TV shit.
How do you manage to do that, so there’s going to be a new one thats 10bit, coming out later?
We’ll just encode at Hi10P from Ep 2 on

I really hope you’ll keep doing an 8bit version for the rest of the season. I’m looking forward to this show. Unfortunately, the Hi10P encodes don’t work on my media streamer.

I agree, needs to just stay 8-bit, especially for 720p.
Keep the 10-bit stuff to 1080p blu-ray releases for those who insist on it.
Just watch the 480p.
One of the reasons for 10-bit encoding is a better quality encode, if you don’t want a better quality encode, then 480p is still there at your fingertips.
Now that 10-bit is widely supported, there is a higher demand for 10-bit than for 8-bit. We can’t keep everyone happy though.

The entire rest of the planet uses 8-bit.
It’s obvious what a load of BS the 10-bit bandwagon is because the only arguments for it are childish retorts about what year it is and pretending those who watch 8-bit have old computers. There are people with systems where 8-bit looks way better than 10-bit.
The “higher demand” isn’t due to people who are making an informed choice – it’s clueless people who are just downloading what they’ve been led to believe is the best choice.
The whole early 10-bit adoption was great until it started being shoved down people’s throats by those on the 10-bit bandwagon. 8-bit is still the standard for 99.999% of the world and will continue to be so until they start making hardware that does 10-bit and there are 10-bit sources. Until then, it’s all just 8-bit stuff re-encoded to 10-bit.

If some decoders supported it, I would ask for the High 4:4:4 Profile (with 14-bit) but since it’s still limited to 4:2:0 we just have to take what’s best for now, that is 10-bit 4:2:0. And as for hardware supporting, 10-bit and higher profiles, there’s a lot of them in professional hardware but because of higher costs they don’t want to make it available for everyone.
And 10-bit is still better than 8-bit even if your source is 8-bit, and it doesn’t take much more processing power than 8-bit (sometimes even less because you have less bitrate) so the only issue the that it’s not supported with every hardware-base decoding but many Doki previous release in 8-bit (especially the ones in 1080p) were often higher than the high profile specifications and didn’t play with DXVA).
10-bit is widely supported by anime fans because most of the people who watch anime want better quality. If you don’t, take the 480p version.

Yeah, the people on the 10-bit bandwagon are already behind. The really hardcore re-encode their stuff into Hi444PP 14-bit.
I guess that explains part of the problem – people on the bandwagon actually believe it magically ups the quality even if the original source is 8-bit.
But I sure would like to find out why the encoders of groups who acknowledge it’s retarded to re-encode 8-bit sources into 10-bit continue to do so.
There’s a difference between re-encoding a 8bit raw into a 10bit encode, and encoding a ts into 10bit.

If you don’t like 10bit, sub your own stuff.

Because quality is not the only upside to 10bit. You can also have smaller filesizes.

Both VLC and MPC-HC, the most commonly used media players, now support Hi10P natively. As long as you keep your applications up to date, you have the correct codecs. Basically, those “fanboys” of which you speak are just up to date users.

I’m not sure what you mean here, but I will just reply by saying that it will normally be released in 10-bit, but this week is was encoded in 8-bit and no one told me, so I labelled it as 10-bit.
So can we expect a V2 of it which will be in actual 10bit, seeing as you’re doing 10bit for the rest of the series?
Unfortunately not. Encoder is busy encoding other stuff, so unless I want to release said v2 a week from now, it’s staying 8-bit.

Seriously this release was painful to watch. Apart from the banding (present in the original video but a little filtering and some 10bit would have gone a long way), there’s blended frames (if I had to guess it looks like tdecimate with hybrid=1? pretty sure that’s encoder error, not the original video) and lots of fucked up frames around scene changes (probably just how the raw is, but they could be freeze framed as it’s pretty distracting)

Our intention was to use 10-bit. and it was actually tdecimate(mode=1)
We’d use CR video but they late cast it by 12 hours, so we kinda need it before then, lol.

I don’t know what you have against French songs. I must say that I do find most French songs bad but it doesn’t look like a French song to me. (And I did listen to the full song)
Meneldal, my first language is French and I was asked to TL that French part of the song (we are not even sure it’s French =_=) so whenever I hear that song I rage 😉
I listened to the song again and I can’t understand a thing. it may be French but I can’t tell what they wanted to say. French is also my first language and I’m quite used to Chinese and Japanese accents in French but I think you’d need official lyrics for that. I understand how it can have made you angry at this song.
