Wow this was certainly unexpected.
Just wondering, how come all the resolutions are non-standard or is that just how it was on the BD? THORA’s version is also non-standard but that was DTV so…?
1920×1080 (actual resolution of the BD) – 42 pixels (black bars that were cropped off) = 1920×1038
There were black bars on the Blu-ray eh, how unconventional
All of Ghibli’s released used weird resolution like this.
Wish it was 8-bit for 1080p version so I can watch it on my blu ray player, so I guess I have to connect my computer to my hdtv for this one. Thanks for this release, almost went for coalgirls version.
Or you could just grab the 720p version.

Excellent use of English. I find your point well made and easy to understand.
Trying to watch, and all I can see is a green screen, with audio. Is there a video codec I need to view properly? I use VLC, and have the latest CCCP installed.
Try uninstall both VLC and CCCP. Reboot. Install only CCCP.
Might be having a conflict between the two.
Or if you’re set on using VLC (and not MPC), you need to download the git builds of VLC (1.2.0)

It makes life a lot easier. I don’t want to fiddle around with it myself. User error fear.
To be fair that would be a lot of work, as the file would need to be uploaded to fileserve, XDCC, and Torrents.

A lot of people who come here don’t watch dubs. I like dubs myself but a large majority here prefer subs.
The guide explains it pretty well, if you follow it there shouldn’t be any issues.

Hmmm. I hit the 1080p torrent and it gives me an error. Wrong parameters. I’ll google it later cus I am not sure if it is my vuze or not.
I’ve just checked that torrent for you using Utorrent and it downloads fine for me. Arbeit its going at 0.2kb/s for me with a 1 year estimated download time, the window has only been open like 2 minutes though(Time it took to reply to you) lol hope that helps.

I would much rather see Kiki’s Delivery Service over the other films that were already done by several other groups already.
Curious as to why some people would not want the english dub. It is done pretty well for the ghibili films.
Some of them are better than the japanese. Or at the very least on par.
…oh anbd how about Spirited Away? Haven’t seen that done yet in BD.
Kiki’s Delivery Service, like many other Ghibli films, has not been done in BD yet, or even aired in HDTV, so your out of luck on that one. Spirited Away has aired, and has been done in HDTV, but as far as I know does not yet excist in Bluray. Apart from Howl’s Moving Castle (which is one of my 4 favourites, the other 3 being Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, and The Borrower Arrietty), the ones that I know has been done in BD are: Whisper of the Heart, Laputa – Castle in the Sky, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, and Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea.
Personally, it’s not about which is superior.
I’m just not a fan of dubs because they are not the ‘original’. It’s just like how I wouldn’t want to watch an American cartoon dubbed in Japanese or a Korean TV Drama dubbed in Chinese.

My favorite Ghibli movies are: Kiki’s, Spirited Away and Nausicaa. Though Totoro, Mononoke and Howl’s are good too.

If you like movies like that, I also recommend “Beyond the Clouds the Promised Days”, “5 Centimeters Per Second”, and “Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo”, if you haven’t already watched them. ; )
And most of the movies from Studio Ghibli of course.
After watching both Doki and THORA’s 1080p versions of this, I’d say you can’t go wrong with either, as both are great, and there are extremely few noticeable differences. I went with Doki though. ; )
So glad I bookmarked this post for later, this really is such a lovely film.
I wonder whether there’s any connection between this and Fractale; there’s a number of familiar themes between the two.
As for VLC bashing: why? I find it works fine, and some things work better than other players for me, particularly playback speed adjustment and playback skipping controls.
That said, I would like to move up to Mplayer2 for the performance bump, but want to use a more up to date front end than SMplayer. As long as it’s got nothing to do with codec packs. I’ve found those to be nothing but trouble and nasty bloatware.
