UN-GO – 07

UN-GO - 07

Hey, all! I was fantasising when I told you that this week would be smooth, so sorry for any derailed expectations! Expect UN-GO to follow a closer schedule to Guilty Crown from here on out, which means Sat-Sun on most weeks. Any earlier releases will be a fun little surprise!

Thx a lot! Is the new OP translation based on the official lyrics?

  • Peace

Doki very slow this season but I am waiting for them like always..

    thank you πŸ˜‰

  • Tyler

    Thank you!

Does anyone know exactly how many epis there’ll be? MAL is saying 11, but it’s kind of hard to believe there’ll only be 4 more (hopefully non-rushed episodes at that, and it’s user-modified content anywho.) AniDB says unknown. Is MAL just wrong and that it’s still unknown exactly how many epis there are?

  • All I can say to this episode:
    WTF?!

  • Amarok

In just one episode, this show went from cool to

    WAT

    I…
    I don’t get it.

    • Yup, lazy this season. Zero-raws are fine.

Juggy babe in skimpy underwear = good.

No loli sex bot = bad.

And what a mind fuck this was!

@22:55 Is it suppose to end there, or is it cut off? I believe it’s the former but asking anyway.

Thanks for subbing this awesome series.

  • dizzle83

Hmm. I think I must have taken a few tabs of LSD before watching this one. I don’t remember doing such a thing, or even know where to get any, but the other explanations for my experience of this episode seem to make even less sense.

    11:18- There’s wasn’t ever a war.

14:05- Start with a capital Y for You, the semi-colon used prior indicates as much.

15:34- It’s either over-thinking or overthinking, either are considered acceptable. It’s not ‘over thinking’ though, because that would make “over” an adjective instead of a verb. Makes the sentence indicate someone has finished thinking rather than thought excessively.

Not bitching, just flagging ’em for the BD version. This is a mega-wordy series and you guys are doing an awesome job, so props for that.

Seriously though, who the fuck let David Lynch direct this episode? I don’t even know where to start thinking about what it means.

    • Pawprint

Re: 14:05 – actually, just the opposite. You do NOT capitalize the first word after a semicolon (unless said word is normally capitalized all the time). In truth, the split on that line was very awkward, but it ultimately should read:

      I’m not the only one who thinks this;
you… you too, have been treating was as a toy.

You made a catch; you just got the solution wrong.

I do agree with you about over-thinking, by the way*. I’m adding both of these to our internal wiki. Thanks.

*And the David Lynch thing, too. Wonder how many of the young ‘uns around here understood it….

  • SunSun

Yeah, like I said, I wasn’t intentionally sniping or anything, was just letting you guys know before someone else inevitably started flaming elsewhere. I don’t go through line by line looking for errors or anything (*coff* SAGE *coff*) but coz this one is pretty dialogue intensive I do tend to focus on the script a bit more than other shows… And then the pedant in me inevitably flags stuff. I’ll watch every show Thaerin TLs because I know the translation will be great, he usually has a strong team supporting him as well.

I stand corrected on the semicolon usage, you’ve pointed out it was an awkward split so that probably set the alarm bells ringing for me. I always blame the punctuation first, ask questions later πŸ˜€

    • Thanks a lot for the catches, as well as your support! πŸ˜€

The team is real small this time around and I’m doing most of the editing myself. This is a good lesson for me to step up my game. Typos happen rampantly during the TL process, so if something gets through, it’s usually just a flub.

We’ll get all these in the BD ftw.

  • Rokudaime

One thing though you guys: You’re using semicolons in the wrong way, though most people do (myself included, ’cause I don’t care). When I had a subject called “Research and Writing” in University, a course in English that teaches you to write well, my English teacher was very particular about the fact that the semicolon does not have the same function as a colon, only weaker, as most people think. It actually has the same function as a period (.), only weaker, meaning that the sentence that comes after is closely connected to the one before. Therefore, whether or not the word that comes first after a semicolon should begin with a capital letter or not depends on how much it is a completely new sentence, or if it is closer to being part of the preceding one, which is really a fine line that is quite hard to distinguish, and has no correct answer most of the time. So he just recommended instead that we simply do not use semicolons at all, and just use periods. ^^’ Oh well. I doubt anyone cares though, so I probably just wasted my time boring everyone with this explanation. :p

    • You don’t capitilise the word following unless it should be capped for another reason, such as a name or a title.

The whole point is that you are joining two clauses/thoughts that are closely related and of equal weight. If they needed their own sentence then you would give them their own sentence and punctuate accordingly rather than use a semicolon.

    • Pawprint

HAHAHA, that’s the advice for a colon, not a semicolon. Smack that English teacher if he indeed told you that was how to deal with a semicolon. Also: The Oatmeal explains it well.

      • Rokudaime

Naw, that last part was how I figured it was because of what he said, it’s not that he said that. the part he told me was the “semicolon does not have the same function as a colon, only weaker, as most people think. It actually has the same function as a period (.), only weaker, meaning that the sentence that comes after is closely connected to the one before”. So it was me being a dumbass/misunderstanding…I’m not lucky enough that I can blame it on my sensei. <p
