Lucky Star (BD) - Vol 1

Lucky Star (BD) - Vol 1

Shana will be prioritised, according to the vote, but while that is being encoded, I decided to work on Lucky Star.

The source is pretty terrible, but after filtering, it looks acceptable for 720p now.

The amount of work going to each episode is immense, hence the slow speed. Besides each ep being 500+ lines and every ep has a unique ED.

Big thanks to Jigsy for transcribing. May the lolis be with him.

    Oh it starts now huh…
I still haven’t watched this show.
    Thanks!

  • heyman

Thank you. Finally I could change afk’s hardsubbed version.

  • Dami

Yeah!!Thanks!~ Gonna rewatch it too lol

  • rude

    Looks good.
    Question, are these dual-audio?

Last, any of the new BD release Kore wa Zombie being worked on?

    • Zdm321

Single audio, but also contains subtitle tracks from both afk and EnA.

      • Index

when u finish Lucky Star, can u give english audio so that we can mux it by urself? just like Haruhi

i think we had this kind of conversation some months ago

      • rude

Thanks for the reply, two script choices are great to have it’s unfortunate being single audio.

I can’t remember what the poll had if it included adding the English audio? It was satisfactory to my ears. I like the idea of letting us mux the English audio track.

  • Joe4evr

Thanks! I gotta say, I’ve seen some screens of 1080p releases of Lucky Star, but I find those to just be rather ugly upscales. In contrast, that 720p screenshot looks much smoother and much better suited for this show.

  • Sonosuke

    Finally! Thank you! Thank you!

I’ll be surprised if you can even get those to look half-decent. There is like zero detail left.

“SYD – Nana has not had as much progress as he would have liked in TLing this, so this might be delayed past April.”
    -Holo, 27th March 2011

So, should we consider it dropped at this point?

      • taway

        Well, speak of the devil!
        “Haruhi-chan – Progressing.”
        -Holo, 27th February 2011

Any further progress? And I suppose while I have your attention…

“Shuffle – Shinisaki has unfortunately fallen ill, and cannot release this project as planned. However, I will get the new timers and editors on this ASAP, and we will hammer out releases soon.” (emphasis mine)
        -Holo, 27th February 2011

You chaps don’t work on Valve time (http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Valve_Time), do you? Because we’re well past the first entry for soon, so that would place the next release in about… 2020.

        • Zdm321

Haruhi-chan is my project, and right now I’m waiting for a friend to upload the R1 DVDISO for Volume 2, because I plan to include the english dub in our release.

Nothing is dropped. Sorry that we can’t spend 24/7 subbing things.

          • taway

I fansub with a slowsub group (I won’t name names, but the initials resemble those of a recent US president…), so really, no need for the “we have lives” bit. If the original status post had said, “Waiting for R1 so dub can be added, then the expectations would have been made pretty clear: (*checks for Vol 2 on Amazon; nope, no Vol 2, so I guess no release yet*). But no mention of that was made in any previous post (not comment section mind you, post).

Now, I’m not going to question dub decisions (I’m not working on them, so who am I to do so?), but will you be re-relasing eps 1-6 with dubs? If so, there’s a high chance of patches, correct? Why not do the same for the rest? At the pace of one H-C ep/month, we’d be up to maybe 11 or 12, certainly 10.

          • Zdm321

I doubt your slowsub group is currently working on as many projects as Doki is right now (brb going to your blog to complain that you’re too slow).

Yes, there will be patches for 1-6 to add in dubs + other fixes.

          • taway

Bring your friends; wish we had leechers 🙁

          • Zdm321

Friends said they’ll come only if you plan on serving cake and delicious cheese 😛

          • taway

We don’t have nearly as large a warchest from Fileserve, so you’ll have to bring your own cheese.

          • Zdm321

            What a party stopper 🙁

          • Me

            ZDMMMMMM

Haruhi Chan Vol 2 was Bandai Ent store exclusive for ages/buy only via them on Amazon.com, basically thats why the ISO isnt online lol, no one wants to buy from Bandai Ents store.

It comes out for everyone on DVD according to Amazon.com August 2nd, I would imagine anytime after that the ISO will be online

          • Zdm321

Yep, I know, hence why I said it’s being shipped the first week of August 😛

        • Akashic

Projects move as projects move. They get released when they get released.

Different teams work on different things. So different things are released at different speeds.

The release of Lucky Star has nothing to do with the release of Shuffle!

Please remain patient, these things will come in the future.

          • taway

“Different teams work on different things.”
Are you saying that every single show has a completely unique team dedicated to that show, and has taken a vow of monogamy so that they can’t work another show? Because that seems… a little inefficient. Maybe it wouldn’t hurt for the LS team to help out the S! team — who are apparently swamped — a little bit? Just saying.

Honestly, if Doki dropped a show (or two or three…), I wouldn’t be upset. If the staff working on the show has lost interest, that’s fine. If the original staff quit and no replacements could be found, that’s fine too. But to say, “oh, we’ll never drop a show” and then hear maybe three words about a show every three months — my uncle touches me at night.

          • Akashic

No, what I’m saying is that most shows have a unique team makeup.

No-one here is swamped, we just choose our priorities and some people prioritise real life, which can slow projects down.

A little less verbosity and a little more patience could go a long way for you. If it’s on our active project list, it is most certainly active and writing a book of complaint, and apparently accusation, won’t speed things up.

Doki works in its own way and at its own pace. If you don’t want to watch something we do, don’t watch. If you want to watch something we do, wait for it to be released.

That’s all there is to it.

          • Ixlone

Maybe it wouldn’t hurt for you to stop crying over something you have no control over.

You input is not needed, neither are your suggestions. We will get stuff done as we get it done.

            Deal with it.

          • Zdm321

You should just worry about leeching. We’ve got a handle on things on our end. I think 19 consecutive days of releases, with around 40ish files released during those days, speaks enough about our efficiency.

          • taway

@Ixlone – Thanks for your work.

@Zdm321 – Honestly, that just makes me want to praise your encoder and distro, as ours seems to have trouble with more than one show a week.

          • Ixlone

56 eps, 15 NC, 2 specials in 19 days iirc.

      • taway

“None. And we hope to keep it that way.” (emphasis mine)
        “Should we consider it dropped?”
Those are two different things. As you might be aware, 3D Realms technically never cancelled Duke Nukem Forever, even after 13 years. (Legally what happened is, they were fired). However, for all effective purposes, before 2K/Gearbox came along, DNF was 86′d.

As long as there is never an drop announcement, sure, one can claim that SYD wasn’t dropped. Short of a nuclear apocalypse or worldwide implementation of Sharia law, it could come out at anytime. But if there’s no/inadequate staff working on it, that’s just being dishonest.

        • Pontificus

Why are you making such a big deal about this anyway?

          • taway

Because I’m waiting for a compile to finish, I have a non-faulty long-term memory, and because no other leecher seems to remember those shows exist at this point.

Edit: Can’t be bothered to make a reply, so i’ll just hijack your post.

People ask on a daily basis about our delayed shows, if you was a regular around here you would know that.

          • Zdm321

They leechers haven’t forgotten. They just know what our drop policy is already.

          • taway

“In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. But, in practice, there is.”

          • Pontificus

Regardless, you are complaining pretty hardcore of something like this? At worst, these projects could be considered stalled. They still intend to finish and release these shows once they can, so calling it dropped would be incorrect. You say you are in a fansub group, but you act like you are an ungrateful leecher. You can either wait or go somewhere else. I’m pretty sure that both SYD, Shuffle, Haruhi-chan BD’s or whatever you are complaining about are already subbed by someone else.

        • ASDF

If you have time enough to complain, why don’t you try joining a fansub group? Anyone can time or encode, and timers and encoders are always needed. And it will possibly speed up the releases. What do you say? 😛

          • taway

Already part of one. You’re absolutely right that anybody can time or encode, but not everybody can QC, i know i can’t. But that’s what I try do, and I’ve got my hands full with that (and dealing with recalcitrant editors) already. Thanks for the offer, though.

      • rude

A quick question about that Ixlone in regards to http://doki.co/projects/dropped-projects/

I remember sometime back news of Doki doing Kodomo No Jikan BD. I haven’t seen any raws out.

I can’t read what it says on the official website, could someone enlighten me?
        http://www.kojika-anime.com/ &
        http://dbeat.bandaivisual.co.jp/kojika-bd/

  • hmmm usually a volume of bluray or dvd contains 2 episodes only right excluding the specials and all that?

Also curious why when you guys release bluray you start out with only listing an episode then later add the rest.

    • Ixlone

      No to first question.

Second question… Holo releases his as he encodes and muxes them up. Simple, right?

    • Zdm321

The number of episodes on a volume usually depends on the length of the show (ie: 12 ep shows usually have 2 per volume, 24 ep shows usually have 3 per volume, long-running shows usually have 4 per volume), although this sometimes varies by publisher/producer (Kadokawa, for example, sometimes likes to put 2 eps per volume for even 24+ ep shows like Nichijou, Gosick, and Haruhi).

In this case, though, this was a BD Box release (all episodes were released together in one package), which contained 6 episodes on disc 1 (which we’ve decided to call “Volume 1”).

  • priszero

is the 720p upscaled from 480p for this one..??

  • taway

“None. And we hope to keep it that way.”
    “Should we consider it dropped?”
Those are two different things. As you might be aware, 3D Realms technically never cancelled Duke Nukem Forever, even after 13 years. (Legally what happened is, they were fired). However, for all effective purposes, before 2K/Gearbox came along, DNF was 86’d.

As long as there is never an drop announcement, one can claim that SYD wasn’t dropped. But if there’s no/inadequate staff working on it, that’s just being dishonest.

    • Akashic

      We’re not a games company.

      Have a little patience.

    • Zdm321

Please explain how not dropping SYD is considered “dishonest”.

      • taway

I never said “not dropping SYD” = “dishonest”. I said not making a drop announcement = dishonest if there really shouldn’t be any expectation for it to see the daylight in the near-term (one can always resurrect the show later on). Hence, “if there’s no/inadequate staff”. After you folks took down the status of backlog projects, all of it’s turned into sort of a black box.

        • Zdm321

I think the word you’re looking for is “stalled”. “Dropping” refers to totally giving up on a show for good. We haven’t “dropped” any shows yet, but there are a few shows “stalled” for various reasons (TLC busy with real life, waiting for DVDISO, etc).

          • taway

“Stalled” tends to keep hopes up too much, but whatever. Like I hinted at, if the backlog statuses were re-instated, there’d be a lot less folks wasting your time (maybe even put in two lines of Javascript to automatically update the “Statuses Last Updated” so you guys wouldn’t even have to worry about that).

          • Ixlone

            We don’t worry about that.

            It’s done when it’s done.

    • Index

      why u’re such a faggot, dude………..

      • taway

Says the guy who bothered to take the time of his day to reply to “a faggot”.

        • Index

wow. that was so fast ┐( ̄ー ̄)┌
          ==========
aside that. they’re doing projects at their own pace. ohh don’t forget that they made a prioritize with some project.

if u can’t wait for it, u can download it from another groups. i think bakabt has Coalgirls version ಠ_ಠ

          • taway

Given that option I’d rather wait another year. ಠ_ಠ

          • Index

ahhh so u do understand about that, don’t u?

            ( ╹◡╹) (╹◡╹ )

we’re leechers here. we’re no different with u. u don’t need to make such a ruckus like ^above

everything will be release when they ready

            (▰˘◡˘▰)

  • Archon

Yes! I have been waiting for this! 🙂 Great comedy!

  • Kenzo

GREAT, been waiting forever for your release since I chose to watch Blu-Ray instead while I haven’t watched the series yet, THanks Doki!

  • meiko

I think virus123 faunsub has already done this one and they have a good source for even 1080 (I’m not sure if it’s up-scaled). May be that’s a good reference for you for picking difference source?

  • All that hard work pays off. :>

  • priszero

anyone here bother to give me screens/caps from both 480p & 720p?

  • innerchihiro

Woah woah woah, everyone let’s just be thankful that Doki is awesome all right?? No need to start complaining about other projects here.
    Thanks for Lucky Star Doki!!

  • Rokudaime

This is all good and dandy Holo, as this show is important to me, but still, can’t you please finish the Haruhi BD batch before you start working on Lucky Star? :-/

Also, Zdm321, do you have any idea at all when you can expect to have the second volume of Haruhi-chan available to you, so you can work on it?

Finally, while I do indeed agree that taway is bitching an awful lot here, I too would like some more info on SHUFFLE! other than that “it’s being worked on steadily” (I think it was Ixlone that gave me that reply some time ago? :-/ ), seeing as how it’s been 5 months now…

  • dymitr

This is really good stuff, real funny. Love it when Konata sings the animesong. But a few people actually sound more horrible than me when singing, but this made me look like a nightingale.

    Also, a technical comment:
At the last character of the last sentence of the op I see a square…I assume it should be a star or a kanji-like-thing instead.
Is this just me or was the attached font to ep1 just incomplete?

  • Kyousuke

720 is perfectly fine if the 1080 sucks. Thanks Doki for doing this!

  • s0p

    Thanks for the release.

    Noticed a few things:
The OP is timed to start at the wrong place under your chapters. Also, EnA sub track is missing the first 3 or 4 lines of dialogue in the OP.
