Episode 16 will use editions. By default is the edition without the ED, because let’s face it, after that happens, you really don’t want to hear an upbeat ED, do you?
Edition 2 will play the file as normal. Just note, The ED sequence is present in the file, but just “hidden” in edition 1. That means, I did not cut it out of the episode.
If enough people disagree with my use of editions, I will remove it in the batch.
I will release Volume 5 on Thursday, then I will begin the encoding of Lucky Star while working on Haruhi. Haruhi will be complete next week. The week after, I will release Lucky Star.

I like the idea of using editions, and I vote for the use of the following set of editions for the ALL of After Story episodes in the batch.
Default: Torch as the ED
Edition 2: No ED
Edition 3: Dango as the ED
ps: Edition 3 > *

That Dango song… fits the entire theme of after story its beautiful but at the same time heartwrenching. I guess I’ll need to prepare more tissues on my rewatch. Do it Doki!

Please release a version without editions. just as it should be from a good fansub groups – no aditional watermarks in the video and no ruined source by adding ordered chapters or anything that manipulates and therefor ruines the source.

I loved Doki because they didnt use crap like ordered chapters or similar bs, and now, because of the comment of one guy, you kick that benefit of yours in the arse and add “similar bs” to your release(s).
I mean seriously.. because people are too stupid to CLOSE THE video (YES, some players DO have a stop button)?? Please for future releases, make it so i only have to click on one file and it automatically skips all OPs and EDs and Previews to next EPs and plays the whole f<cking series in one go. Also i want you to disable all the scenes with people laughing or crying after a fight, because i cant stand it – that ruins my atmosphere of the fighting!!
Dont ruin the source because u have to implement something that needs you to disable it if you dont like it..

editions = skipping ED (keeps source intact because the ED is there)
Also, some people watch their BD shows on their TV, through a connection to the computer, which happens to be quite a bit away from where you’re sitting when looking at the TV, so you don’t have time to close the ED before it starts up. -_- You need to think about things like that Jason, and stop being such a raging dick.
Although it could be argued if a person is watching BD shows in a tele which is probably at least HD, they should be able to afford a wireless keyboard which except if your tele is 15m away from it, you might just get an extension. =P
Of course there are other situations that may stop a person from immediately hitting the stop button, but I might as well argue that if you want to watch the ED that much, play it or put a playlist with the NCED after it…
Well, ye, my TV is HD. Very much so. And you’re right, I could get a wireless keyboard, but, I spend so much money on a bunch of other stuff, and I also don’t really need one, well…most of the time. :p ^^’
Hey Holo great idea with the editions thing, the ending really flows with the preview of the next episode as it has the same atmosphere. I know some people will complain about the cut ending theme but I like it better this way and it’s just a single episode anyway.

The patch (xdelta) should only be a few KByte and you can post it now so we dont have to wait for Batch.
Or you could just press the one key to change from default and move on.
You can always demux it and change the settings yourself if it really bothers you.

I have to agree with Tiberium Wolf when it comes to comments such as “You can always demux it”. I see people from various fansub groups dropping comments like this all the time, and I have to say, I like you guys, but please stop asuming everyone knows their way around computers and programs the way you do. :-/ I don’t know how to demux (I hardly know what it means), I don’t know any encoding stuff, I don’t know what “grain” and “artifacts” in videos mean, and here’s a whole bunch of other stuff I’m positive I don’t know about/how to do. I know how to find anime on the internet, download it, and play it. That’s what I know.

I would rather see the original video as default, and the no-ending edition as secondary choice. While I can see both sides of the issue in terms of the ending ruining the atmosphere of some episodes, I think the default should be how the show originally aired.
While I personally am (relatively) knowledgeable about encoding, and could remux a file if I had to, I did not at all know about MKV editions, or where to change it should I want to before reading this thread. I’d imagine there are many more people who will just wonder if the show has no ending after a certain episode because they never came to the site proper to read about the change. Common sense would say to make the people who want the source modified do the extra “work” rather than potentially confuse the majority.
Hawkeye makes a good point here Holo. You should avoid having the ending off by default, simply to avoid a lot of people being confused as to where on earth it has gone. :-/

I disagree with the use of editions in 1/16 episodes. Inconsistence like that ruins a release as its total.
Choose either with or without editions for whole project but not one episode with, 15 without.
Also i ve seen only a few (pretty much always the same) people argueing down comments that disagree with the use of editions. Why do you ask for peoples opinions if all they get is a “f off, go click that one setting to reenable them. Go demux it yourself. My TV i watch 1080p releases on is 500km away from my PC cause i m so stuffed up. Stfu and say thx for their effort of even releasing it.”
Honestly if you ask for people’s opinion, you should prevent going around and shutting them down by forcing your own right after they write something that doesnt fit you but was asked by the intro. (thats especially @Rokudaime)

If you’d have read my initial comment on this idea, earlier in the thread, you would know that I will personally be happy about it regardless of what Doki chooses, but that if they are to use editions, I would like the ED to be on by default for consistency (read: I want it to be ON), and have the ability to turn it off, even though it would be inconvenient for me, as I will probably skip it alot in later episodes. I was criticising the way Jason was presenting his opposition to editions however, because he was basically saying that everyone who don’t want to watch the ending, and thus would favour it being off by default, are idiots, because they can just turn it off themselves. That’s a rather rude and unfair way to put it for one, and it’s also not an argument that takes everything into consideration, as my example with the TV shows. Really man, learn to properly READ what people are saying before you comment. -_- In this case you’re making yourself sound like a shortminded and rude idiot because you DIN’T read properly.

I didn’t think you were being rude at all. I think you’re right in assuming most people don’t have any idea how to encode, demux, etc. Also, your point about consistency makes sense.

I think if you really want editions, the default should be the one with the ED. And the other edition is the one with the skip ED. Because most of the viewers, especially the new ones will just play the file and that’s it. And it will a pain to make the ED on if you insist on doing the default is the skip ED. Not all viewers are tech-savvy or google maniacs just to know how to make the ED on/off.
I think you can more productive if you just leave the ED as is, I mean no skipping. The editing of the ED also takes time and you have around 9 TV projects plus the BD’s to encode/time/TLC/QC. Minus the ED editing for the skip function can make time for other projects. And also can attend RL thing more because the task is finished at an earlier time.
I don’t know if the skip function can be made through a patch. If its possible, you can do that so to those who like the skip ED can get the patch here. But I think if it is possible, it will be one patch for every episode.
I only intend for the skip ED on this episode and episode 21.
I see. If the skip function can be made through a patch, I think you can consider it and also the reversal of the present default edition (the one with the skip ED) to the secondary edition (the no skip ED one).
Hmmm…I see…I somehow missed the fact that it was only going to be for 2 episodes, and not the whole show. In that case, I don’t think I really care whether the ED stays on by default in those episodes or not.
When will episode 17 be released?
Let’s just respect both episode 16 and 21 based on the emotional story telling and skip the ED on these 2 EP.
Both of the ED will not be missed as the soundtrack more than makes up for it.
No ED for these 2 EP, that will be my vote.
No ED for those two eps. It’s a best stylistic choice. You can enjoy the ED on any other episode after all.
Seems like this warrants an actual Doki poll. As in, a radio button poll on the left side of the main page — like all your other polls. You might get a better feel for the numbers that way.
You need not even restrict this poll to Clannad After-Story. The poll could be generic and ask something like “What kind of editions would you like to see us use in future releases?” and have options like “No editions at all,” “Editions that default to the original video,” “Editions that default to the Doki edit,” etc.

I agree partially. The use of editions is approved by a majority but the issue is what should the video default to. IMO I think it should always default to the original.

Actually KyAni should’ve used dango for After Story and Torch for season 1, because it fits the themes much better.
