When Yuki smiled, I almost had an heart attack. It was close.
10 months after initially announcing my plans to release this movie, I finally present it to you. I believe this is the only English release (apart from Mazui’s) that does not borrow Mazui’s translation.
Special thanks go to:
- Arr-nii – Translating 2,000+ lines is no easy feat and he managed to do this in under a week! Many thanks.
- Exhilem – Checking the translation.
- masat – Timed over 2,000 lines!
- anon1 – For editing/QCing the entire movie.
- sm2345 – For QCing the movie.
- Pahndamonium – For K-timing the songs.
- And of course you – For your patience.
Comparisons
Ideally I would like to make comparisons with Mazui’s final encode, but unfortunately they have not released, and I do not feel it is fair to compare with that shitty raw their LQ release uses.
Therefore I will compare with Coalgirls and Delicio.us. Coalgirls release I have to download ovenight, but I will post up a comparison with Delicio.us’s encode. There are 4 shots.
1080p (h264): [Doki] Suzumiya Haruhi no Shoushitsu (1920×1080 h264 BD FLAC) [16CD7C48].mkv
720p (h264): [Doki] Suzumiya Haruhi no Shoushitsu (1280×720 h264 BD FLAC) [144D5A94].mkv
480p (h264): [Doki] Suzumiya Haruhi no Shoushitsu (848×480 h264 BD AAC) [06355688].mkv (Note, actual CRC is DE8C5ACC)
CRC of the 480p does not match the CRC in the filename.
Interesting. DE8C5ACC is what i get, what do you get? But it was different last night. But my version still plays. I guess as long as it plays, that’s all that matters. How very odd indeed.
DE8C5ACC is what I get as well.
Thanks for taking the time to do a 480p.
Maybe a case of a very “bad collision” I guess…
Those comparison shots were pretty interesting. Delicious’ one looks closer to the original BDMV, but Doki’s dithering gets rid of the banding thats even in the BDMV shot, and the better TL makes it a winner for me.
Thanks for the release guys! The wait was definitely worth it π
Thank you guys for this Movie, really appreciate it … greetings flyz to Holo and every1 who wokred on this =] … and Happy New Year to every1 …
What is the justification for doing a 1080p encode, while the original movie was only 720p?
Comparison with the Fag-Simile encode:
http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/16446
Because 1080p actually looks decent, and will look even better after I filter it to get rid of banding + aliasing.
Will this be worth a twice bigger file? Could you post a comparison between a basic (say bicubic) upscale 720->1080 and your filtered 1080 release? Thanks
Finally Disappearance! And surprise movie on the way o/. I hope next will be flood of Haruhi BD releases.
Thanks Doki π
I’m with you lol. I’m holding off watching Coalgirls release of both seasons because I want to see how it matches up to Doki’s.
Movie was EPIC WIN! Will seed this for weeks to come!
I’m being serious, this movie alone is better than the entire second season of the series!
Which isn’t exactly hard, to be honest, considering how eyecancer most, if not all of the second season was.
That said, the movie was epic win.
Thanks a LOT for this! I will definitely archive the 1080p release when it gets here. (Will probably re-watch after we get Doki awesomeness in form of Haruhi BDs)
As for the movie itself, I couldn’t wait for Doki release any longer so I watched Mazui one (lol sry!) a few days ago and can tell that the movie is THE BEST.
AnimeNewsNetwork also has it as highest rated anime movie atm. Hopefully stays that way because it deserves to be there.
thanks! β*:.q. o(β§β½β¦)o .q.:*β
Yuki…chan ;_;
So moe :<
Yes, that what I wanted to say <3
I really can’t see a difference between Doki and Delicio.us xD
Look closer. Look at the blanket.
can we get fileserve links for the 720 or perhaps the 1080 when it’s done. thanks and keep it up
I can play FLAC 720p very fine, but somehow the music playing was very loud and I can;t hear any talking. Any suggestions?
Yes, your player is not playing the 5.1 channels properly. Most of the talking comes from the center channel, and if all you can hear are the L+R channels, then you can’t hear much.
Sort your channel issue out and it will play fine.
Oh thanks for an advice, but how I can do it with MPC-HC? I want to know how to fix that with channel options with MPC-HC.
Thanks! I’ve been wanting to watch this forever! 3 CHEERS FOR DOKI!
@ Holo
rar a -m0 -v2000000 blahblah.rar blahblah.mkv
8.85 gig of delicious
HaruhiYuki.Cheers Doki!
Also seconding a (really basically) upscaled 720p versus 1080p shot if possible please. For the most part I’ll be watching it in 720p anyway, either native or downscaled, the WDTV Live is a little crap like that.
Holo: You could try 7zip and post the crcs for the split archives in a new post.

Oh mein Gott!
Thanks for 1080p =)
FLAC (2 Ch) in audio title tag made me freak out for a bit until MediaInfo said 6 channels in audio stream ^^;
oops, I guess I was too tired, lol.
No wonder I only hear very low volume of talking and loud music playing. But still, how I can config the channel with MPC-HC player?
Maybe: Play – Audio – Options… – Internal Filters – Audio Switcher – check Enable custom channel mapping – and set config table below?
(not sure about, because i have not tested and never used)
when you play, there should be a ffshow icon on the status bar area. right click on that and you can set it there.
Thanks!
And.. are you going to rerelease 720p FLAC with correct channel [5.1] instead of [6] channels? Or not? Just asking =)
That FLAC is correct.
no DXVA for 1080p release – WHY?!!!
I can play 1080p release using DXVA no problem, maybe you should check your software installation (video driver, h264 decoder etc)
thanks, BeginnerXP,
but Mazui’s version perfectly works with DXVA enabled on the exactly same machine, in the exactly same media player classic hd, with exactly same codecs turned on…
it’s just that we must say “thanks” to Doki for using High 5.1 profile instead of High 4.1. The former obviously doesn’t guarantee compliance with DXVA…
My machine used to be restricted to high 4.1 profile for DXVA to work too (using ATI 4850) until ATI finally released driver to support DXVA on 5.1 profile.
Currently I’m using Windows7, MPC-HC latest nighly build, CoreAVC 2.0, madVR renderer 0.36 (provides better upscale/downscale visual quality over EVR but doesn’t support DXVA)
Ask kokus.
Comparison between native 1080p and 720p upscaled to 1080p:
http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/17836
Native 1080p looks sharper but a bit more aliased.
i’ve been waiting for very long time. can u pls split the 720p intp few .rar parts and upload on fileserve/bitshare/hotfile/megaupload? the torrent is super slow.
sorry. cancel my previous post. my friend already downloaded it. i’ll just transfer it from him. thankxx.
For some odd reason, no matter which player I use, the video only goes 14mins in. And its not like it plays 14mins and then nothing, they all show that it’s only a 14min long file even though its 8.85 gigs. Is anyone else having this problem or can help me solve it?
1. recheck the file using your torrent client. sounds like you havent finished downloading it
2. check CRC (hashmyfiles.exe)
CRC is fine. Actually after some more investigating, it seems like a computer issue and not anything to do with Doki. I’ve talked to some people at the mpc-hc sourceforge forums and they’re trying to find out what’s up. Sorry, for not updating sooner.
No problems, glad you found out the issue.
Thanks for the release!!! but i nid some help … i cant hear the voices whatsoever. i can only hear the narrator and BGM , any solutions to these? im using MPC ! i tried changing the channels but to no avail, please help!
