Anyway, this is our last pick-up of the season. I doubt anyone actually caught the hint, but I subtly foreshadowed this pick-up in this comment reply.

Anyone mind selling this show to me? I’ve actually heard zero buzz about this. Just curious what to expect before I step in.
There isn’t much to say. Just because there is zero buzz doesn’t mean anything. It isn’t a mainstream show, it’s not flashy, there hook isn’t boobs, and it is a slow drama. It has excellent characters and great interactions. It is “real” kind of show. It’s just telling a good story. Great art and music. One of the best OPs and EDs in the music department imo. If you can’t get on board with rakugo then I’d say this won’t be for you since it obviously heavily revolves around the craft. If you like shows that offer actual character growth and development then I’d say give it a try.
I agree on pretty much everything, great story and characters, but it just shows how different taste can be (of course).
The OP/ED music is one of the most terrible things I listened to in a while and I just have to skip it now even though the episodes are so great XD
I’d say to read the first few sentences of this Wikipedia article, and if that sounds even remotely interesting to you, check the show out. The first episode, as noted in the post, is double-length, so if you watch it, you should get a really good idea of whether or not you will enjoy the show overall. If not, no worries — slow dramas are not for everyone.

FUCK YES! I’ve been hoping you guys would do this show since the season started. I’m so glad I waited, this totally made my day.
I must say, when I first heard about this show, it didn’t catch my interest. I was quickly taken by a lot of prejudices. But ultimately, I decided to watch it, and I’m glad I did so. Just like IZEROII said, the OPs and EDs, even the insert songs are amazing, the characters are great, and I’m enjoying being told such a good story. The rakugo performances alone are so exciting, but they were well-animated as well. I’m also enjoying the voice cast put together for this show. I’m glad to see that such a good group is giving this show the treatment it deserves. Thank you!

HS is a direct rip from Crunchyroll. Our version is based on the translation, but we’ve also added in the extra fansubbing stuff you would expect from a fansub release (TS/Kara/etc)
Plus a lot of editing!
Are they speaking any dialect in this anime?
Yeah, they transition between several during the actual rakugo scenes. I’ve done what I can to reflect the dialects in the editing style, but honestly a lot of inflection is still lost.
Out of all the shows you’ve ever subbed, this show seems the most out of character for doki. Then again, at least this show is guaranteed not to have rival subbers pick it up because once they see the first episode is doublestacked everyone else instantly thinks “NOOOOPE”.
I’d say No. 6 was out the most out of place.

The first episode is basically a summary of them but they cut out about 30 min worth of content, which is unfortunate. Since you’ve done the first episode, your work would be half done already. xD
I’d be happy to sub the OVAs if you or someone else would provide the BDs or DVDs and a full translation. Alas, I myself am no translator, so it’s probably not going to happen.

Did you not read what I wrote? They cut about 30 minutes of content from the TV version of the first episode. So no, they are not exactly the same. That being said, a director’s cut of the first episode containing the content from both OVAs was released with the first blu-ray so hopefully somebody will sub that.
Also, don’t mean to be rude but… When will episode 2 be out?
Episode 02 should be out soon, since I finally have a fair bit of free time this coming week. Trust me: I don’t like the delays any more than you do.

Progress is being made, but there’s one particular piece of the puzzle that just isn’t coming together yet. Once it does, there shouldn’t be an issue. In any case, we definitely have not dropped the show.

Yeah, big thanks for doing this, really. It’s such an underrated show. The official subs aren’t too bad, but a lot of flavor is lost in translation, and their typesetting is too simple and jarring.
