I think there is a translation error on the text message. It should say that SHE confessed to him and was ignored and rejected in middle school, but he recently confessed to her. In the manga, that was in a letter she gave him with his birthday gift when he visited Tokyo with his class, but didn’t read until a few months later because she cut off contact and he never opened the gift. That is why he went running out. It is the opposite of what Kazuma and Asuka told him about how their relationship started. Someone is lying, and he bets it is Yuzuki. Therefore, he is sure that something else is going on or there would be no reason for her to lie to him. (The letter also said she felt sorry for him, if the manga translation is correct…)

hey i noticed in the episode, the part where Haruto gets the text from Eba there was a mistranslation you guys translated it as “He was someone I had ignored and rejected during middle school” but Eba was actually the one who confessed and got rejected but she recently got confessed to by that same person and says she wants to try going out with him. so it would be cool if you guys could fix that.
Looking at the actual text, the way the Japanese is written is actually quite ambiguous. I guess I’ll need ZeroYuki to come on and confirm this. The way you suggest it should be translated does make more sense in context. I had already asked ZY about it before release and he said it was correct at the time, so let’s wait for him to come on and confirm/deny.
I almost got a heart attack after seeing this. I’m outside at the moment, so I can’t come online.
But indeed this is a fatal error and there are no excuses for this. We should release a v2 as soon as possible because this would affect the flow of the story in the next episodes to come.
Just leave the correct translation here and I’ll make the v2.

is really the correct translation? sounds somehow weird, I didn’t understand what he mean.
I do not know Japanese very well, just from what I learned from anime, but for me it sounds more like:
Because of her personality, concerned and […], my girlfriend […]
Oh ya…huge error. Arguably most important part of this episode.
After learning the truth, Haruto questions her motives and why she dumped him back then, and she tells him that she knew Kazama since middle school, but after Kazama confessed his love to her, she rejected him multiple times and moved to Hiroshima.

The page before it is the lead up. It’s not 1:1 scene adaptation. In any case, you see how the epiphany of the “something is fishy” makes more sense.

So, did a v2 ever come out for this episode? The text message IS wrong. Otherwise there is no difference between what Yuzuki said and what Kazuma said. To be clear, she told Haruto that there was a guy she confessed to in middle school but gave up on after being rejected who confessed to her after she moved back and she wants to try dating him. Kazuma told him that he was rejected repeatedly and finally got her to go out with him recently. Haruto is worried because he is sure that Yuzuki lied and he wants to know why. He figures there is something that is upsetting her and fears that she is suppressing her own feelings in order to make someone else feel better. (She has a history of doing this.)

For those interested in Japanese! The error was in the word 振られる (written in the message as フラれて+verb) which is the causative form of the word 振る (To reject someone).
振られる = To be rejected.
振る = To reject.
