To LOVE-Ru’s continuation, To LOVE-Ru Darkness, is going to be animated in October (Autumn 2012). Since Motto To LOVE-Ru was a project I personally translated, of course we’ll be picking this one up as well.

My expectations for the anime aren’t very high. The manga is my favorite ongoing, but I doubt the anime will be able to be as entertaining airing on TV.
The TV eps will just be promos for the DVD/BD releases. If it’s anything like Motto was, it should be pretty good.

And now for something completely different – a person who thinks ToLove-Ru Darkness is as much sh*t as you can get. And that person is me.
The first manga, okay, I actually read it. There were some fairly interesting ideas, for example with Lala’s various inventions which could be a basis for some interesting non-ecchi stories.
Darkness however is a shit shat by shit. It’s not funny, not interesting and all the characters are totally unrealistic morons, even more than they were before.
The first chapter got me interested (yay, finally some epic plot!) and then they give us a hentai. No, it’s not even ecchi any more, it’s just a hentai.
Worse even – a hentai that actually PROMOTES all the wrong stuff, incest for example, so it actually goes beyond “don’t read/watch it if you don’t like it”.
The only thing this series has going for it is the quality of the art – but even then it’s such a waste for the artist to draw this crap with his skills! I remember the Black Cat manga by the same mangaka – sure it was generic and unoriginal, but it had a plot, some nice action, characters with different powers, it was SOMETHING!
I can’t believe people like Darkness. I can’t even criticize people for liking it, because I can’t believe they do!
Okay, end of the rant. Still, is there really nobody who would agree with me? Or at least explain to me: how is THIS likeable?
How it is likeable? You seriosuly can’t comprehend the reason why people like it? It’s very simple dude: Guys like hot, cute, sexy girls. with or without clothes. And so should you. (￣ー￣) Am I right guys? Boobies FTW! <3 I'm really looking forward to this one, though I'm worried it'll be so badly censored into oblivion that it'll be unwatchable. Hope the BD's will be ok at least.

I agree for the most part, but turning it into a borderline hentai might not be so bad.
What kills these harem series and makes them inherently dull (see Tenchi Muyo) is when the same thing happens every time, and no matter how many new girls are added, the main character never makes any romantic progress with anyone and never will.
If they turn it into hentai-level stuff, great. As long as Rito gets somewhere with one or more of the girls. Hell, the series could even turn out to be revolutionary if it actually had him in relationships with the girls at different times rather than beating the never-doing-anything-with-anyone dead horse of harem anime. I doubt that will happen, but it’s a possibility.
If it breaks even a little new ground, great. If not, well, it’ll be yet more harem anime, hopefully with a few laughs and lots of nudity.

I think the studios just assume that the majority of males that watch this kind of thing identify with such whiny Shinji types. Either that or Japanese guys really are like that.
I cannot agree with you on any point. I think the plot (though obviously not a deep one) is interesting and leads to much humor. Almost any guy would enjoy the titillation provided by the sexy characters, as well. I’m totally a perv, though, so I lol at most situations that lead to sexy nakedness. Mostly when it’s Mikan, Nana and Yami. =D
