To LOVE-Ru Darkness 2nd – 02

Best girl.

Ero_Yatsu: I can’t hear the song lyrics clearly enough and I’m not gonna bullshit you, so I’m waiting for official lyrics. OP is 7/29, ED is 8/5. Enjoy the episode.

That said I’ll probably v2 all the eps to that point (including the ep 1 video) and release them in one torrent for those who want their lovely censored tv eps with kara.

  • Waxxyie91

    Thanks a bunch!

Btw how does decensoring something like this work? Or do you just have to wait for the BD/DVD release?

  • Geese1

    Thanks for the new episode!

    19:07 “Was you following your Master’s orders…” {Were you…}

    • Ero_Yatsu

Do me a favor. Yell at ixlone.

    • Was you is perfectly fine.

      • Bad quote <_< "So was it your Master's orders that time when you tried to save Nana from that truck?"

      • kojika

No, ‘you’ always takes ‘were’ in the past simple form of the verb be.

        • And yet I often hear “was” used like that in everyday conversation. Why? Because colloquial English isn’t a frigging formal letter to the Queen of England and people can say things that sound more natural to them, and let’s face it, they do.

It’s no different from “you and I” when most people would actually say “me and you”. That doesn’t make it bad English that’s just how people speak!

That’s not to say I see your point. Yes I could’ve used it, but that is what came to mind first and that is what I would actually say myself. So it’s staying 😡

Which brings us nicely back to “was you is perfectly fine”.

            “was you is perfectly fine”.

That’s your opinion though. It may sound natural to you, but to me it’s something that sounds off and unnatural, and as such it irks me every time I hear it. Not that I don’t see your point, as like you said it’s natural for colloquial English and dialects to be different from the standard grammatical English (same with most other languages really), and like you I’m not bothered by “me and you” instead of “you and I”, but I guarantee you there are TONS of English speakers out there who don’t share your opinion.

More importantly though, I do think there’s a bit of a difference when you’re translating and making subs for something, especially when you’re releasing to a lot of people who don’t have English as their first language, and who consequently will almost always find it odd when the English is not “grammatical”. I’m not saying subs should be nothing but stiff formal English all the time, as that would be incredibly boring, but it’s probably a good idea to try and stick to certain grammatical rules like this one, that will otherwise no doubt annoy a lot of people.

To be honest I’m not sure I’ve come across “was you” instead of “were you” yet in the various anime fansubs I’ve watched. Things tend to annoy us more when we haven’t been exposed to it, and aren’t used to it I guess.

It’s definitely ghetto talk. I use it myself in the hood but It does feel off though being TLR.

          • “Was you following your Master’s orders” is never a correct sentence. It should be “Were you” in this context.

However it would be correct if you were to say “Was it you following your Master’s orders?” or perhaps “It was you following your Master’s orders, wasn’t it?”. “It was you following your Master’s orders.” is also correct as a statement.

The example “So was it your Master’s orders that time when you tried to save Nana from that truck?” is also incorrect. “So were they your Master’s orders when…..” would be the correct way to say it.

When translating I feel you should stick to the official grammatical rules of the language you are translating to, this is what people are taught in school and most likely what they will know and understand. I’m not saying I didn’t understand what was said, as I am a native speaker of the English language. I’m simply saying it’s incorrect. If we start allowing mistakes like these to happen we might as well put on our gold chains and start translating into “hood speak”.

Just my 2 cents on the matter.

Hey thanks for the subs, but you’re wrong about this. While “me and you” is a common enough colloquialism, “was you..?” is just plainly wrong, gratingly so, unless Rito were a hood rat, which he’s just plainly not.

          • Offkorn

            >was you is perfectly fine.

Sure… if you happen to be either Jamaican or a lolcat. Otherwise not so much, no.

          • Didn’t realize our viewers couldn’t read~

            Oh, such a delight

          • kojika

Are you looking at a different script odinigh? The initial quote is as displayed.

  • DM1138

agreed though. Yami for the win^^

  • Elvin21

    Yami!!! Thanks for the episode!

  • fuckwqas

if you dont like the way they translate then fuckyourself and use mkvtoolnix merge it again with the script the way you like it and stfu. if the translator translates it the way heshe likes then fuck you. stop saying heshe is a fuckign lolcat or shit. seriously fuck you.

gj on that. doki for president!

    • man00ver

Ehhh, we’re just trying to help with the englishing there, matey. Enhance your calm.

    • rude

Only one sentence was being discussed out of possibly over a hundred lines. Reading Rito talk like he’s a homie feels off. That’s just me though.

    • Rokudaime

Dude. Chill. The heck is your problem? :-/ We were having a mature and polite discussion here, and you blow up in everyone’s face and lash out with comments like “fuck you”, “stfu”, and “fuck yourself”? That’s extremely rude and uncalled for. Do you have some kind of issue or what? The only one who was actually a bit rude was Offkorn, and no one else, so if he’s the one you had in mind when you made that comment, you should have directed it at him, and not all the rest of us, like you just did. Otherwise, calm the fuck down.
